"We need to move faster if we want to get there in time," Brad told Cage. Cage grumbled under his breath. "What was that?" He asked with a cocked eyebrow.
"We could have just left them there, you know. I see no reason bringing them with us," Cage said. Behind them was the female wolf they had just rescued. She was still unconscious which was becoming a nuisance to them.
They had a mission to accomplish and didn't have the time to cater to a stranger. To top it all, her little daughter was sitting with Brad on his horse comfortably.
"And what if they get attacked again? Her mother is still unconscious, Cage. It won't do us any harm to assist them. Once the mother becomes conscious, we could leave them in the nearest town." Cage's expression changed. He looked at his brother with a funny expression.
"What?" Brad frowned.
"You? You are going to abandon them in the closest town?" He asked bewildered. Cage knew his twin brother was softhearted and would never abandon them if they asked for his help.
"Well if she isn't strong enough, I guess she could accompany us," Brad murmured. Cage shook his head in exasperation. His brother was hopeless. Sometimes he wondered how they could be brothers when they were very different in character and temperament.
"You're a Lycan, you know. No werewolf wants to be seen with a Lycan. It's like a stain on their image," Cage told him in the calmest voice he could muster.
Brad rolled his eyes. His brother had never liked werewolves. He thought of them as a nuisance. Hearing Cage's words didn't change his decision in the slightest. He held onto the little girl. She was frightened and looked around with cute innocent eyes.
"Not another word, Cage. We have a child here," he admonished him. Cage rolled his eyes in annoyance but stopped talking. They were getting close to a small town. A human village.
"Let's leave them there," Cage told him and pointed to the town up on a hill. He was in a haste to get to their kingdom and didn't want to waste even a second on a mere werewolf. Saving her life was more than enough.
"Hhmm," Brad hummed but didn't comment on his suggestion. Cage was fed up. Why was he being so reluctant to let them go? He wondered.
He became silent, allowing his brother to do what he wanted. They traveled throughout the night and by morning they were close to their kingdom.
"We should rest for a bit," Brad announced and stopped his horse. Cage frowned.
"Why? We should be at the palace by nightfall if we continue. Why must we stop?"
Brad rolled his eyes at his brother's lack of compassion. He pointed to the sleeping girl in front of him. She was tired and had been resting on him for a while now. He could also hear the grumbling coming from her stomach. She must be hungry.
Cage's eyes softened for a minute when they fell on the little girl. He pulled the reins of his horse and stopped. He knew Brad was going to stop even if he protested. As the elder brother, he had to look after him.
"One hour," he murmured. "One hour and we'll continue," Cage told him and he nodded. He came down from his horse while Brad brought the girl down like a father protecting his child.
"Do you think she'll be awake soon?" Cage asked him while pointing to the horse carrying Lara behind them. Brad shrugged and went off with the girl.
Cage walked towards the horse and took a good look at the woman they had saved. He placed his middle finger under her nostrils. She was alive but still very weak. He pulled the cloth used in covering her naked form higher as it had run down during the journey, revealing her back.
His hands froze midway when he saw some marks on her back. He stared at them for a minute before covering her up. The sight of those marks stirred at his beast within. It made him angry and weirdly possessive of her. He shook his head.
It was none of his business. Cage took the reins of the horses and tied them up to a tree. The young wolf won't be waking up anytime soon. He sighed and walked towards Brat.
Brat had woken the little girl up and tried to feed her some snacks they had gotten last night.
"Here, have some bread," he stretched forth his hands to her but she shook her head, rejecting him despite being very hungry.
"I'm not going to hurt you, okay? I'm Brad, this," he pointed to Cage walking towards them, "is my brother, Cage. What is your name?"
"Desi," she whispered. Brad smiled.
"Okay Desi, why don't you eat this and we'll continue our journey," he tried to convince her. Cage stood by the side and watched them with his arms crossed.
"What about my mummy? When will she wake up?" Desi asked.
"She is very sick right now. We will take her to a healer when we get to my home so you need to eat fast. Your mother's life is in your hands," Cage told her. Desi glanced at him with tears in her eyes. She had always been a shy kid. She took the bread from Brad and started eating.
Brad stood up and pulled Cage to the side. "You want to take her with us? I thought you didn't want them to come with us," he asked.
"I'm still not in support of the idea. You were not getting through the little girl so I had to say something," Cage explained. "Besides, we might as well take them with us, the mother isn't healing as a werewolf should."
"The men must be hunters then. Was it a silver bullet?"
"I didn't take a good look at it. We'll need to leave if we want to save her," Cage said and walked away. While he didn't like werewolves, he wasn't going to turn a blind eye to an injured woman on the road.
He watched the little girl try to eat very fast and almost choked on it. He brought out a can of water and offered it to her. She took it without looking at him.
"We need to leave soon, Desi," he tried to hurry her up. She took little sips of the water and stood up. He smirked. Mission accomplished. She took little steps to him and held his hands. He was shocked.
"Let's go Desi," Brad called her. She tightened her hand on Cage, choosing him over his brother.
"Guess it's me over you, huh brother," he smiled and pulled her with him. They walked to his horse where he placed her back on it and got on it.
"Hiya," Cage yelled and the horse started running, leaving Brad and the injured wolf behind. A few minutes later he hears the horse steps of his brother behind him.
They rode until nightfall not taking any breaks in between. They got to the palace by nightfall and went to the stables.
"Call on the healer immediately!" Cage yelled as he came down from the horse. He brought down the little girl that had fainted due to stress.
"Quickly!" He yelled again at the guards in the stables.
Brad came down from his horse and helped the young female wolf. She had stopped bleeding but was still too weak. He brought her down and carried her into the palace. Cage had already left with Desi. He took her inside as the guards ran to the healer's home to call on him. They prepared a room for the mother and daughter while they waited. The healer rushes into the room, thinking something had gone wrong with one of the twins. He was surprised when he saw them hovering around two girls. "Your Majesties!" He yelled as he entered, calling their attention to his presence. They glanced at the door and saw him."Come on, she's dying!" Brad waves him over. The healer sighs in relief when he sees both of them strong without any injuries. He walked towards the bed and saw the ghastly injury on the young woman. He quickly dropped his things on the ground, opened his medical kit and started working on cleaning the injury so it doesn't get infected. The healing process was too slow, he notic
George growled at his men. They were a weak set of pathetic wolves. He released his dominant aura making them fall to their knees in submission. "What do you mean you could not find her, huh?" He yelled angrily. He watched them quiver in fear while glancing at one other. No one was ready to relay the news to him. They were all scared of his violent temper "I asked you, weaklings, a question!" He yelled again, his anger getting the best out of him. His eyes were glowing and his fangs were protruding out of his mouth. "We…. We searched everywhere, Alpha," one of them stuttered in fear. He walked to him and pulled him up. He could not look at George without trembling. "Everywhere? You searched everywhere?" "Y..ye.. yes, Alpha." He threw him across the room angrily. "No, you didn't. Lara is in this pack. She is in this town. At most, she will be in the woods," he growled. The men glanced at each other but stayed quiet. They knew she wasn't in the woods. "You are all useless. Get my
Brad and Cage walk to their throne quietly. They had dismissed Ted and Alexis as they wanted time for themselves. They both had a lot on their minds. Brad was thinking about the two ladies they just brought while Cage was thinking about what to do to be able to see the gems. Being Kings of Lycans, they had a huge task in their minds. It didn't help that they couldn't even do the basic thing that their parents had always been able to do. Cage felt angry at himself. As the first between the both of them, he felt more responsible about the Kingdom. They might be the Kings but he couldn't help but feel more disappointed. Brad glanced at his brother, knowing exactly what was going through his mind. It has occurred to him that Cage might be beating himself up. There was nothing he could do to pull his brother out once he started blaming himself. Unless he suggests sex. "You're quiet, Cage. What is going on?" Brad called out, glancing at him. He was concerned about his brother. "I feel
They stared at her with so much intensity, Lara could not move her body. She was in a big room with two men yet she felt suffocated inside. One of them held her hands, pinning her hands on the headboard. Unconsciously she arched her chest upwards, making their eyes fall on her naked chest. She didn't know how she had gotten naked but it was not a priority at the moment. They stared at her with heat blazing from their eyes. Lara wanted them yet couldn't move. She didn't know who they were but she was drawn to them. "Let us in, Lara," one of them said. She glanced at him but still couldn't see his face. Who were they? "You're holding back," the other grumbled. She opened her mouth to speak but couldn't hear herself. What was going on? Her wolf kept pushing her to accept them. She shook her head. "No, you don't want us?" They asked again. The one holding her hands was still wearing his clothes while the other was naked. The naked one brought his head forward and put one of her nippl
George hesitates to enter his father's room. He knew how angry Robert could be. It was his fault. He should have placed more concern in monitoring Lara but he never thought she would try to run away. She didn't have anywhere to go. Unless she wants to go in search of her father. He was dead though. Lara might not know that but he did. George knew his father had killed him. Everyone knew it. And now, due to his attitude towards her, she is gone. Dead or alive, he wasn't sure. "I can hear you breathing and pacing outside, George. Come in or get out," Robert called out from his room. George stopped pacing and entered inside. "Father," he said as soon as he entered. He glanced at Robert sitting on his bed with his eyes closed. He took a little step and stopped walking, giving some space between him and the bed. Robert was like a calming storm. "Did you find her?" "No Father but we found something else." George brought out the pieces of clothes having Lara's scent that they had found.
"Desi come here!" Lara yelled as Desi ran away from her. She tried to walk to her but was slow. Her injuries still hurt. "No, I want to be with Sir Brad and Sir Cage," Desi replied stubbornly causing Lara to halt in her footsteps. Was that the reason she was trying to run away? She frowned. Desi didn't understand and she wasn't going to explain it to her. She was too young. Lara sighed. Desi also stopped running and stood by the side. Lara was confused. It was going to be hard, running away from this palace. She didn't like it. While she was grateful for their help, she didn't want to stay any minute longer. The healer that came to check up on her advised her not to move much or else she'll tear his stitches. His stitches were very bad actually but it didn't matter to him. If she wanted to heal any faster then she will do as he said. Lara glanced around. The Lycan maids all stared at her as they walked past her. Some glared at her. She wrapped her arms around her chest, feeling n
Lara lifted her gaze at him. How did he know? She didn't want to talk about her life. It didn't matter if they had saved her once. She was going to try and forget George. "My reasons are of no concern to you." "They are my concerns because we saved you and you are staying in my palace. I need to know in case of an emergency," Cage insisted, knowing she wouldn't want to talk about it. She was in a complicated situation. "I'm grateful you saved my life," she glanced at Brad. "But I don't want to talk about my life to strangers. If you believe that I might cause problems for you, then I'll gladly leave with my daughter." "And where will you be going to?" He cocked an eyebrow. Cage knew she had nowhere to go. Her expression told him everything. She was very easy to read. "That's none of your business," she answered and he growled. Lara whimpered, scared. Brad had had enough. "The both of you should calm down. We can talk about this calmly. And Lara, you're not going anywhere."She g
A few days later, Lara walks past the maids working in the palace. One of them brings her leg out, causing her to hit the leg and stumble. She caught herself in time before disgracing herself. With a deep breath to calm herself down, she turned around. They kept on cleaning the floors. She glared at them. One of them stopped cleaning and glanced at her. "What the hell are you staring at, slut?" She asked her with disdain dripping from her voice. Lara just stared at her. She already knew what they thought of her. "You have no right to speak to me like that!" She was pissed off. The attitudes of the female Lycans were the worst. From the nobles to the workers. They treated her with a lack of respect and hatred. Calling her all sorts of names. "And what are you going to do? Who do you think you are, walking on the floors that we just cleaned?" The maid was enraged. She threw the wet rag at Lara. Cage caught it before it could land on her face. He glanced at Lara for a moment before
It wasn't what they wanted. Cage glanced at his brother. They needed Ted to get evidence for them else they'd have no choice but to put her in the dungeon for conspiracy. Kyla already knew about it and so did her mate. It was only a matter of time before the Noblemen heard about it. They needed someone they could trust. Ted was the only one capable of doing it. He wouldn't want his step sister to get hurt. He was a loyal Lycan. "I will try my best," he said and stood up to leave."Also, I'd like to know if she has been in communication with anyone outside the kingdom," Cage added. "Do not let Kyla know about this. She already suspects Lara and wouldn't believe otherwise," Brad told him. He nodded and left. "Is this necessary?" Brad grumbled. "Yes, we have to get ready to attack before he sends his men over," Cage explained. "Lara is the only one who knows the way to her pack. She could lead us to either a trap or to victory." Brad sighed. He didn't like this. *****************
Everything was going wrong and there was nothing Ted could do to assist. Cassandra was punished by flogging. The Kings took pity on her and had her flogged. Lara was locked in her room and no one apart from Desi was allowed inside. No one was telling him anything. He hated being in the dark but couldn't confront the Kings to ask about her. He went to Kyla. At least, she must have an idea of what was going on in the palace. For all he knew, the Kings loved and cherished Lara. Locking her up seems suspicious. As he got to her house, Alyson opened the door. "Sorry for coming unannounced, I would like to speak with Kyla." Alyson was surprised to see the General at her door. She nodded. "Please come in," she waved, taking a step back for him to go in. Ted entered the house. Alyson offered him a seat before going to their room to inform Kyla of her guest. A few moments later, Kyla came out. "This is new," she said as she sat in the opposite direction from Ted. He sighed. Never have be
Cassandra glared at Lara but frowned. Was she speaking about the gemstone she had shown her? Her hands immediately went to her neck as she held onto it. Ted glanced at Cassandra. "Cassandra showed you the gemstone?" Lara nodded, looking at him hopefully. "And it once belonged to your mother?" "Yes, her name was Evelyn," Lars whispered. Ted frowned, unable to understand how she came to that conclusion. His mum was a werewolf, he knew but he didn't know she had a child. A girl. Her words were confusing. A gemstone can't be the only evidence to support her claim. "Do you have any other evidence?" He asked her. Lara frowned and shook her head. She was scared but determined to convince him. The Kings might make a decision that would hurt her but she is willing to prove her innocence. If Ted could be beside her, she would be confident. Her hands shook. "It's true, Ted," Cage's voice rang out from behind Cassandra. They turned to the voice. Cassandra's eyes widened and her eyes were
What is going on, Brad? Your expression is scaring me," she told them. He hugged her out of nowhere.Kyla came into the throne room and couldn't believe what she was seeing. What were they hugging Lara? She is one of them! Cage turned to Kyla and smiled at her. She nodded her head although she was still confused. Did she just make them get closer to their mate or what? "Brad now is not the time," Cage told him. Brad pulled away from her. "How did you find out?" Brad asked him. Cage pointed at Kyla. "She did it. She found the man responsible for our tears and also the whereabouts of her cousin," Cage said proudly. Lara turned to her, shocked. "You found where my father and Max are?" She asked again. Kyla nodded. That was not the cause for celebration though. They needed to strategize on how to attack the Alpha before he attacked them again! "Who is he? Tell me, who the bastard is!" Brad asked Cage but Cage shook his head. "Kyla, tell them what you told me." Kyla came Forward.
George cracked open his eyes and glanced around. Where was he? He looked at the familiar room and immediately recalled he had gotten home before giving up. He tried to move but ended up groaning with pains. What the hell did they put in his back? It hurts. He closed his eyes and tried to stifle the scream that was about to come out. After a while, the pain was gone and he opened his eyes again. He opened his eyes to his Father, staring at him. He quickly looked somewhere else. Alpha Robert watched his son in pain but didn't feel an ounce of compassion for him. He needed George to be strong. He was too weak. How could he come back looking like an animal? "How was the trip that made you leave your position as an Alpha? How was the experience? Was it enjoyable?" He asked his son. George couldn't look at his father in the face. He regretted ever accepting Lara as his mate. He should have rejected her the day he found out she was his mate.He wished he could go back in time. All these
It was late in the night when Brad and Cage finally got home. Lara had slept off while waiting for them. She was tired. As they entered their joint room, they saw her sleeping while hugging some pieces of jewelry close to her heart. "What's that?" Cage asked Brad. He glanced at them."I think she was looking at them and fell asleep with it in her arms," Brad said as pulled his shirt from his body. They were very tired and after stressing out for a whole day, what they wanted was to curl up with their mate but it seemed she was tired too. They took their bath and climbed on the bed. Brad tried to take away the jewelry and ended up waking her from her sleep. "Hello, mate," he murmured and kissed her cheeks. Lara opened her eyes and tried to sit up. "I'm about to sleep, you don't have to sit up." "I'm already awake," she grumbled. "Where's Cage?" She glanced around. "He is still in the bathroom," Brad couldn't help but yawn. He was very tired. Lara thought about not asking but afte
"You heard me, there's nothing in there. Maybe some beautiful woman and gems but aside from that I won't advise a pretty young lady like you to go," he told her. She ignored his words. "I'm still going to go!" She insisted. Suddenly, he held her arms and shook her. "It's not safe! Unless you want to be food for the Lycans. Now leave!" He shooed her away. Alyson moved away a little bit. "You sound hurt. Did anyone around you get killed by a Lycan?" She whispered. When he glared at her, she turned her attention to the tree. Kyla was done waiting. They were not saying anything. As she made a move to come out, the man answered. "Yes, I lost my father to those beasts, and now due to the greed of your Alpha, I am about to lose my own!" The tall man yelled.Alyson took a few steps backward. The men were becoming aggressive. "W… wha.. what do you mean by that?" He scoffed at her responses. Yes, she wouldn't know about what happened years ago since she must have been a child back then.
Lara couldn't believe it. They had accepted her relationship with Brad and Cage. The joy on her face could not be hidden neither did she try to hide it. Brad had glanced at her numerous times as they went back to the palace. She was glowing. He loved the look on her face. At least, they were done with the Noblemen. Cage was also happy. Finally, he would be able to mark his mate. If only he had seen his parents' murderers, he would be more than happy. He glanced around and noticed that Kyla was not with them.As a general, she always went out with them. He was so occupied that he didn't even notice it. Ted was with them though. "Where is Kyla?" He asked Ted."I have no idea, Your Majesty. Should I send someone to go to her house to check on her?" Ted inquired. Cage shook his head. Maybe she had gone to get something important for him and was not back yet. He decided to forget about her for the moment. "Do you think we will be able to do our mating ceremony now?" Lara asked them.
Nobleman Chad cleared his voice and decided to continue with his questions. He loved the way she answered them precisely but couldn't take any sides else they would start suspecting him. "Miss Lara, you've been participating in activities only Lycans do, is that a way of trying to prove that as a wolf you can do better than us?" He asked coldly. Lara hesitated. Who the hell thinks like that? She shook her head. "I have participated in only two Lycan activities so far and I didn't do it to prove anything." "During the yearly celebration, The Kings appointed me to be in charge of the preparations as their mate. I accepted because I wanted to be able to ease their stress." She took a deep breath to calm her emotions. "As for the second challenge, Fayn had asked numerous times for a fight but I rejected them. I decided to accept the challenge when she kept disturbing me, knowing fully well I might die." Her words about his daughter made him very angry. Nobleman Agar had to place a ha
