(Ariel's POV)I was woken up early in the morning by Ann. We had to get to work, today was the day for Elijah's selection that was to be broadcasted live and we needed to prepare. The broadcast would show all the aspects of the royal life including the palace and we needed to clean and get everywhere and everything tidy and ready.Nothing made me happier than this selection. It meant Elijah had finally given up on me and was going to pick a better Luna. Just as long as I was no longer his mate, I was happy.I was cleaning the large hall when someone poured water all over the place I had just cleaned. I looked up sharply, it was a female and she was a wolf. "Go ahead, clean the floor, that is all you are good at." She taunted me. She went a tad to throw the bottle in her hand to the floor, "Pick it up, human or should I say maid." Her lips curved to one side. I was burning with fury. "You see, being a maid fits you and that is all you are good at. Oh, you thought you would be the Luna
(Ariel's POV)While I am still getting over my shock, Don re-entered the room. During my time here, I didn't even see these siblings to get together. Others would've doubt if they're really close. But I sighed. Ann and her brother Don, the beta almost never meet up due to their different ranks and work schedule. After all, Don was always out for work with Elijah."I came back to ask how you are doing, Ann," Don asked his sister."I am doing well and how are you doing too?" Ann asked him back, smiling as usual."Very well, thank you." I almost laugh at how rigid the beta is. This is your sister for crying out loud, I facepalmed myself internally."Do take care of your health too. Take your necessary meds and don't forget to ask for me when necessary.""I won't. Take care of your own health and avoid injuries often. Your cheek looks bruised already, stay away from anything that will injure you, Ann." My breath hitched as he talked about her cheek, I loved that he was concerned about her
(Elijah's POV)I was surprised by Ariel's thoughts. Her way of thinking was unique and caught me off guard, I found it very interesting. Every day I was bombarded with reasons to be glad I found her. She made life more interesting and I planned on keeping her by my side for a really long while.I mulled over her thoughts and remembered what my cousin, Vincent, had said about humans. Vincent never believed that humans needed excessive protection no matter how weak they seemed. He saw the strength in the seemingly weak humans. He spoke up for humans often and sometimes I did not understand why he did it but now I did.My gaze fell on Ariel and for once I saw what he meant. I recognized their strength. Perhaps I had been too stubborn with this one. I shook my head. I had a lot of things to work on. It amused me how a human had made me rethink something I had believed in for years, she even made me begin to think in a different dimension too. I felt elated and energized for what was to co
(Elijah's POV)After giving instructions to my guards on patrol. I strolled into the house and headed towards the boy's quarter to meet Vincent. It had been a while since I last saw Vincent and it was good to have him back. I wouldn't even have known that he was back if it weren't for Don to spot him, sneaking back into the mansion.Vincent had been very helpful to me. He had been out there moving pack by pack and getting me all the intel on all the Alphas of each pack. Vincent was very handy, he had even gone undercover with the rebels getting necessary information for me. But just the day before he was due to penetrate the Moonstone Park, he suddenly went missing.I tried to find out what kind of danger he could have encountered but I was unsuccessful. I didn't know what danger he is in or how he entered such danger that made him disappear but his words on the last phone call we had just before he disappeared spoke about him falling in love with a human.I was not surprised though.
(Elijah's POV)I got to the door of the boy's quarters and knocked before pushing the door open.Vincent was lying on his back, his phone above his face, as heard at the door. I think he was waiting for whoever was behind the door to come in. Immediately he saw me, he sat up.Nodding slightly at me, "Elijah, You are back already. Welcome, your beta informed me you were out with your mate and so I came in here. I did not expect you back though." I could see the amusement twinkling in his eyes as he mentioned my mate."We left quite early, so it is not a surprise that we are back now," I said, keeping my face neutral, I refused to smile.Vincent rose from the bed looking at me warily, I knew I had caught him off guard with my neutral face, he fidgeted with his phone. He covered his right hand with his left hand and stretched out his right hand for a handshake.I almost lost my composure then, "Your Highness!" He greeted, his back slightly bent. I reached out with my right hand and took
(Ariel's POV)But something clicked in my thoughts, Vincent was a werewolf. How would I move past that? I couldn't possibly be an ally with an enemy now, could I?I shook my head, kept my face as stoic as I could, "Vincent, Friends are loyal, friends are honest, friends have each other's back, and friends trust each other." I sighed, the next words tasted like lead on my tongue, If I was being honest with myself. Vincent was not a bad guy but I could not trust someone from the loins of my enemies. I just could not.I closed my eyes briefly, and opening them I looked straight at Vincent, "Our friendship was anything but honest. You just disappeared on me without warning and even though you have a valid reason I cannot be friends with a werewolf. I can never be friends with my enemies." I gritted my teeth.Vincent looked like someone had stabbed him in the stomach, his shoulders were hunched, his eyes were watery and red, dare I say bloodshot, and his fists were clenched inside his palm
(Ariel's POV)After my conversation with Ann. We went to work, I headed off to clean the floors as usual. I was in one of the rooms at the far left corner of the palace, I was squatting, my hands forcefully scrubbing the floor with the wet rag when I heard it.Sporadic shooting that made my heart do a flip-flop.I was certain that the shooting had come from a Glock 19. A type of handgun. If I was not mistaken there was a rifle involved too. The thought of guns made me smile widely, my cheeks widened and my eyes twinkled with a spark I had not felt in months.I hurriedly cleaned the floor so I could sneak off. When I was done I kept the cleaning materials down and followed the sound of the shots that were still being fired. I loved weapons, understanding and handling weapons came as natural as eating to me. Weapons were the only thing that gave me joy in this miserable life I was living.I moved in the direction of the shooting range that Ann had pointed to me during the tour. It was o
(Ariel's POV)My thoughts were right. I was right about Igni, Igni did not like me. She is extremely aggressive towards me. She did not even hide it one bit.Two days after she almost strangled me at the shooting range. She began to show her true side. She sneers at me whenever I am within sight and I feel she tries to shove her power up my throat whenever she sees me in my maid's uniform. We had a confrontation at the foot of the stairs, exactly five days later. I was rushing down to resume my duties on this Friday morning when she blocked my way. I eyed her and that seemed to piss her off."You don't get to eye me or roll your eyes at me, you weak thing." She spat, her nose releasing the fury that was in her chest. Now looking at her up close, I thought she looked pretty but her nose looked like it was too big for her, I almost snorted.I just stared. I did not want to engage in a confrontation with ‘Elijah's loyal subordinate'. I hissed internally at the thought. I planned to wait
