EIGHTY-EIGHT

“Please,” I whispered to Draven. Stopping this would make us look guilty, and that meant Draven would lose his throne. It’ll only take a few more minutes, I tried to reassure myself. I’d learned to trust my instinct, especially after my recent ordeal, and the feeling that plaque me left me highly disoriented.

“Something is wrong,” he whispered back to me, hopelessly searching my eyes. The crowd had returned to murmuring amongst themselves.

“I have a bad feeling,” I told him back, “but please-”

“Prince Draven!” the head king maker’s voice stopped me mid-sentence “What in hell is wrong with your mate? Do we have reason to believe this rumor ?”

Draven rose from his feet, his anger quickly enveloping everyone. I stood with him and clung to his arms, stopping him from marching to the man who just spoke. He stood stiff for a minute as he tried to calm his beast. I could see him fighting the urge to attack the man and I had a feeling the two of them might have an underground beef. Draven’
