Tessa’s/Jessica’s POV

He didn't blink. He didn't even gasp or hold his breath. He was totally unfazed.

I narrowed my eyes, letting the wootz steel of my blade touch his neck deeper instead, making him feel its coldness and weight.

When I leaned down, he didn't think twice to look up and meet my eyes.

"If it's the silver side of my blade, you'll be writhing in pain right now, feeling the burning sensation slowly taking away your senses." Smirking, I added, "King or not, it won't bring mercy to anyone. It's either you die, or I let you leave."

He squinted his eyes, and in a split second, he was already standing up, holding my hand, which had the sword.

My eyes widened in shock, especially when he pushed it further on his skin. Fortunately, it's not the sharp side.

"Don't be all bark and no talk, pup. Do it," he said, challenging me.

Did he just call me a pup?

"How about we take a break?" Wendell intervened.
