Jasmine's POV

“ I can't believe you're not pregnant yet!” He banged his clenched fist against the dining table as the array of chairs separated us. I for once was glad that I was sitting at the other end, it was technically my life saver right now. He threw the test results aside in anger.

“ There's no need to be mad, it's just been a few months since we got married. It's not abnormal for concep...,” I mumbled in fear.

“ Mrs Margaret, from now on make sure Jasmine doesn't eat any junk food. Feed her with mostly fruits and vegetables and don't forget to make her drink low-fat butternut squash bisque,” he instructed.

“ You can't do that to...,” I sealed my lips at his intense glare. He knew I loved junk food and now he was going to take everything out. Warm tears built up in my ears with some escaping and flowing freely down my cheeks.

“ Sir, don't you think you're being too... extreme?” Mrs. Margaret spoke up for me even though she filtered and weighed her words. Asphalt treated Mrs Margaret and Butler William very well and with regard which I didn't know he could possibly do.

“ Mrs. Margaret, let's not talk further about this issue,” he dismissed.

“ Sir,” his secretary walked in. Other than Mrs. Margaret and Butler William, he was the only worker of his that knew me and treated me with sincere respect.

“ Did you find out what I asked you to?”

“ I think we might have found out were Janet is hiding with her boyfriend but we're yet to confirm that sir,” he handed him a tablet to look at. My heart stopped for a moment at the mention of Janet's name, what would happen to me if Janet came back? I clenched my fists in anxiety, I wasn't ready to let go of Asphalt not even for my sister. I loved him and deserved him even if he didn't see it but Janet doesn't even care about whatever feelings he has for her so why won't he move on and notice me?

“ Alright. I need you to confirm her location as quickly as possible, once that's done I'll freeze her account. Let's see how long she can survive without money,” he wore an evil grin.

“ I'll get on it sir,” he bowed. With that, he got up from his seat and after adjusting his tie, he turned to leave the dining room.

“ Will you be home early for dinner?” Mrs. Margaret’s question made him halt.

“ I can't tell yet,”

“ Asph-- Honey!” I ended up saying. I knew he was going to get really pissed at me now but if I didn't do that he would leave without paying any attention to me.

“ What did you just call me?” He turned back to look at me more in shock than in anger, this was the boldest I've been to him.

“ Honey,” I repeated. “ We've been married for a little over  two months now but I've never called you by anything, even when I did it was only by your name,”

“ Don't call me that ever again,” he warned sternly but I wasn't about to give up now. Janet would be found sooner or later and if I don't put the extra effort now, I would definitely lose any chance I had of winning his heart.

“ No, I'll keep calling you honey,” I stood on my ground though I trembled within, I held my head in confidence as I defied him.

“ What...,”

“ I just wanted to ask you again about my getting a job. I really want to do something, I can work at a bakery and I'll make sure no one knows that I'm Mrs. Levine,” I pleaded but his time not with fear but more naturally, the way it ought to be.

“ Mrs. Levine may be right. I'm not sure if it's healthy for her to stay cooped up all day,” his secretary vouched for me nervously.

“ Don't call her that, she might begin to forget her actual place. The title is only for one person and that's Janet, don't forget that you're nothing more than a substitute,” he hammered as he walked out with his secretary following closely behind.

“ Are you alright?” Mrs. Margaret asked seeing me break down to the ground in tears. It was like he derived pleasure in hurting me continuously.

“ You shouldn't cross the boundaries he's set. Asphalt is very sensitive, we've been taking care of him since he was a kid,” Butler William explained.

“ Yes, Butler William is absolutely correct. Asphalt had a very rough childhood and that may also be why he's a bit reluctant to let you leave the house,” she claimed.

“ His mother the former mistress of the house was a very outgoing person, too outgoing if you ask me and let's just say she ended up finding love outside her marriage to Asphalt’s dad,”

“ So what happened after that?” My tears immediately dried up at the mention of a good story especially one that concerned Asphalt.

“ Asphalt’s mom loved money more than anything and she found herself a rich foreigner. Did I mention that by then L cosmetics and scents wasn't as big?” Mrs. Margaret continued.

“ And so she ran off, abandoning her only son. So he most likely doesn't want to let you out because he's afraid that you may go around exploring,” Butler William emphasized the exploring.

“ Where's his dad then? I always wondered why ever since I got here I hadn't seen or heard of his dad or his mom. Does he live somewhere else?”

“ Not quite, madam. A few months after his mom left, he's dad unable to bear it, killed himself,” she said bitterly.

“ And so he was traumatized as a kid. It's the reason we do not blame him for his attitude, he just has a lot of unsettled feelings,” Butler William slipped in a good word for him.

” That doesn't mean we justify his harsh treatment towards you but we only want you to have more patience with him,” she wiped off the tears on my cheeks.

“ Shouldn't this be a family secret? So why are you both telling me?”

“ That's because you're family and not to mention our boss’s wife,” she said jovially.

“ And as much as we respect his decisions, we still know what and who he needs,” Butler William comforted.

“ Does that mean you see me as a better wife material than Janet and you're willing to help me solidify my stand in his life?” I went to my usual chatty, bubbly self. It was nice to have insiders who support you fully.

“ Yes, we will. Janet is nothing but a facade, acting all nice and innocent,” Mrs. Margaret scoffed. I guess she really didn't like my sister.

“ It's not that I hate her or anything,” I fondled with my fingers. “ I actually look up to my sister, the only thing is I'm not willing to give up Asphalt even if it's for her sake,” I stated my tone objective.

“ The sooner you become less naive the better,” she replied placing both hands on my shoulder.

“ So what sort of food does Asphalt like?”

“ Huh? Why are you asking out of the blue?”

“ That's because OWMH, Operation Win My Husband is on a roll.”

Jasmine's POVThere seemed to be a glimpse of hope, Asphalt has been treating me better lately. Not that his level of care changed but he was more responsive to my moods and attitudes and he's been careful around me. Even though, I knew that it was all because of my pregnancy, it still felt good whenever he caressed my now bulging belly. I was nearly due and everyday seemed to get tougher by the moment since I wasn't carrying one but two.I flipped through the baby guide book he had bought for me as I listened to slow, graceful music such that the babies would love but now I had started tovett hungry. My cravings had started again like I was still in my first trimester.Getting up, I stood in front of the full mirror in the room, analysing the bulge of my stomach. Sometimes I get amazed at how much my stomach has stretched due to pregnancy. As I walked down the stairs, I realized that I had forgotten something very important. I wasn't just nearly due but my due date was today. As it f

Janet's POV"I'm not quite satisfied with this necklace; it's lovely, but it doesn't quite match my worth," I remarked with a hint of disappointment in my voice."That's perfectly understandable. What type of necklace are you interested in, ma'am?" the sales associate inquired politely."I'd like something...""You know what, refresh my memory, how much did you mention it costs?" I asked, my brow furrowing in mild irritation."$1,850, ma'am," the sales associate replied, trying to maintain a professional demeanor."Oh please, just forget about it." I said, rolling my eyes and shaking my head in disapproval. "What did you say that one's price is again?," I asked, pointing to a red ruby necklace that caught my eyes.“Oh my gosh, Janet that would suit you so much,"“I'm so jealous of you right now, I wish I could be you,"“Stop dreaming, Janet is too beautiful to be you," My friends praised me since it was my wedding preparation. We flew down to a private island he owned.I had decided to have my bridal shower party at the vacation house on the island. I'm sure he regretted what he had done," Carissa bragged like she was the one marrying my husband.“She is right. You guys needed to see how he came to my parents house and went down on his knees begging for my forgiveness. Well, as proud as I'm, I made him suffer for a while before I accepted his apology. He even took me to a renowned fashion designer to have my wedding dress customized," I bragged.I could see the tinge of jealousy in their eyes after I had mentioned w

Five years later…Gilbert POVIt was Monday morning, a hectic day to kick off with the day's work. I knocked at the president's office door and waited for a 'come in' order.“Come in," he unlocked the door letting me in. He had a habit of locking his office door to prevent any form of barging in. Which no one in their right senses would attempt to do.“Mr. President the famous singer we are supposed to sign a contract with is nearly in the city. I mean jazz the Caribbean star. I got info that the flight would be landing in the next forty five minutes," I informed him.He kept his work aside and thought for a while.“Jazz, is the contract ready for her to sign?,"“Yes, I have prepared it. The time for the meeting has been scheduled on Friday this week",“And the meeting setting?," He asked. It was rare to have seen a business partner who demanded for a particular meeting setting. But I won't say much because the woman we are talking about is a fast growing star. Any company would do an

Jasmine POVIt was finally Friday morning, the day that I was going to meet Asphalt face to face for the contract meeting.I walked into his company; L cosmetic. I had not been here before because he never let on but now that I was in it, it was not much of a big deal.As usual everyone whispered as I walked through the company's lobby with Arianna by my side and two of my secretaries and bodyguards. The main reason Asphalt was asking for my presence was for me to be the brand model of his company. I had done a lot of adverts for companies and most of them flourished once I appeared on the screen.I had a large fan base and my fans did whatever I acknowledged making me the biggest and fastest influencer in the industry.Plus, my beauty was extraordinary. I wasn't being proud but that was the truth. Money had changed me completely in a good way."Good morning Ms Jazz, follow me this way. The president is already inside waiting," his secretary Gilbert said, leading me to the meeting roo

Jasmine's POV"Wake up sleepy head," Arianna pulled my room curtains open letting the sun flash on my face."Ugh, not again," I groaned, slowly rolling out of my bed. Today was my first photo shoot for L cosmetics. They were launching a new kit of makeup and I was going to model for each of them."Can I just skip the day?. That man doesn't deserve my service anyway," I reluctantly laid on the floor."No, you can't. You started it already so you have to finish it up. I have got your outfit for the day out. So go and have a shower and come down for breakfast," Arianna turned to her devilishly manager. We had finally packed into our new apartment. It was located in surview estate. The location had a spectacular view of the lake with the estate. I felt so thankful that Arianna had bought this part of the estate. Janet's POV"I am sorry for everything I said and did to you. Please don't go," she remained cooled with a little life in her as I could feel the beat of her heart as I hugged her tight. She had saved in the cruelest manner and it was all my fault for not listening to her when necessary.By the time we arrived at the hospital, I had contacted some doctors that I knew who attended her immediately."Please hold Jasmine," I said as she was rolled into the emergency unit. Her breath was now slow yet she reached out her hand to hold my face."I am sorry that I had to do this to you but I just want you to know that I have always loved you," she managed to say and my world paused. I fell to the ground as the medical team continued their journey into the ward. I had stupidly neglected her all this while when she was the only one that truly loved me. Asphalt POVI packed the last things we needed for the vacation we were embarking on. Janet's health still bothered me a lot. She was showing any sign of weakness or fever.According to the doctor, Jazz's condition worsened due to the shock she got after her fall. He centered mostly on her slight chance of conceiving a child again. And if she did it would be a fifty-fifty chance of her and the child surviving. In order to keep her from falling into depression, I did whatever she wanted. She was bright these days and I was glad that she was trying all she could to stay happy and healthy."I think everything is ready. We can leave now honey," she said after putting her last luggage in the trunk of the car."Alright, let us hit the road. Janet POV"I will be off to work, if you need anything just call me and I will answer immediately," Asphalt patted my head before he left my room.He had barely escaped death and he still had the courage to go to work. My fear must have been ineffective on him. I watched from my window as He drove out of the compound and smiled pleasantly. Today, I and Joe planned to meet up. I went into my closet and changed into something sexy enough to get his attention. On getting to the front door, Margaret decided to be a thorn on my skin. "You are supposed to be resting. Your husband will not be glad to find out that you left the house in your condition. He strictly warned me to have a good rest before he gets back," she said with a straight face that got on my nerves."I just want to meet up with my friends. It would be nice if I got some fresh air. I am tired of being cooped up in my room everyday. I am sure Asphalt will not mind me stepping out for a moment," I I flashed her a fake smile.
