Chapter 57: Proud mate.

Alpha Jacob’s POV.

Rushing back to the pack’s clinic, my heart raced with a mixture of concern and fury. Concern, because I feared something might be wrong with Claire, and fury, directed inwardly, fueled by the realization that if anything had happened to her, it would be entirely my fault.

I should have never let her go alone, should have insisted on accompanying her, or even restrained her if necessary.

But now, faced with the possibility of her being hurt or worse, I could feel the rage boiling inside me, directed at my shortcomings and failures as her mate.

I blocked out anyone from mind-linking me, I didn’t want to hear anything. I wanted to see Claire for myself.

Upon entering the clinic I followed my mate’s distinctive scent which for some odd reason had changed. I gritted my teeth in anger.

If anything had happened to Claire, if she was suffering because of my negligence, I would never forgive myself.
