Ari King’s POV

When Rei and I made it home, Uncle Monty was there waiting for us. His head in his hands. Rei closed the door, causing it to thud louder than normal. He looked up to see us and gave a smile. “How are my two favorite nephews?”

“Well, we’re your only nephews.”

His deep chuckle reverberated through my bones. “Glad to see you are still a smart alec. Mind telling me why I have to meet with the snake king? Something about my ‘unruly nephews’ don’t know their places.”

Rei shrugged. “We know our places, I think.”

I chimed in. “Yeah, and you taught us that as potential heirs to your lineage that we need to stand up for others. And that’s what we did. It’s not our fault the snake king has underlings that bully children.”

He sighed. “I take it that is still going on?”
