Chapter 21

Reyna's POV:

As soon as I opened my eyes, I realized I was bound to a chair. My wrists were tied tightly behind me, and my legs as well.

What the fuck?

I blinked, trying to adjust to the dim lighting, and that’s when I took in my surroundings.

A sitting room.

I was in a goddamn sitting room.

A massive sectional couch sat in the distance, its cushions perfectly arranged. A bar cart was pushed against the wall, stocked with whiskey, scotch, and expensive-looking decanters.

I wasn’t in some abandoned warehouse. I wasn’t in a basement.

No.

I was tied up in someone’s home.

And my mouth was taped shut.

Fear shot through me as I started muffling, screaming, thrashing. My legs banged against the chair, the sound barely making an impact in the wide, open space.

The ropes didn’t budge.

Fuck.

Then, footsteps.

I turned to see Richard.

In one hand, he held a metal rod, tapping it lightly against his palm. In the other, a brown envelope. He didn’t say a word as he pulled

Chapter 22 Alex's POV: I should’ve known Chloe would pull something like this. It had been a long day dealing with the men she owed money to, trying to reason with them. I had been willing to pay off her debts just to get them out of my hair, but when they refused to hand over my documents, I knew I was dealing with something bigger. The moment I sent them away and saw Maddox off, I went straight to my room, searching the wardrobe where I kept the house documents. Empty. I slammed the door shut, frustration bubbling in my chest. Chloe. She must have stolen them before leaving. I exhaled sharply and ran a hand through my hair. I still had one advantage—the CCTV cameras in my house. If I could pull up footage of her sneaking out with my documents, I could take it to court and get everything back. I could prove I wasn’t the guarantor for her loan and that I had nothing to do with this mess. But as soon as I logged into the security system, my heart dropped. The cameras had been

Chapter 23Reyna's POV:Everything happened so fast. One second, I was screaming Alex’s name, hoping—praying—that he would dodge in time. The next, the heavy vase crashed against his head, sending a thud through the room. “No! Alex!” I screamed, tears burning my eyes.I thrashed against the ropes binding me to the chair, watching in horror as he staggered but remained standing. While Richard grinned like a madman, relishing the chaos he had created."Please!" I begged, my voice breaking. "Richard, stop! I'll sign the divorce papers, I'll do whatever you want—just let us go! Let me take Alex to the hospital!"Alex, despite the blood trailing down his forehead, lifted a hand, silencing me. His expression was cold, but beneath it, I saw the flicker of pain he was trying to suppress.“Reyna, shut up.” His voice was rough. Then he turned to Richard, his eyes dark with fury. "You want to fight me? Bring it on. You’re no match for me, even in this state."Richard’s smirk faltered for just

Not after everything he had done to me in the past. Over the next three days, I focused on putting myself together.I kept my mind occupied with movies at home, while Chelsea handled the legal battle against Mr. Orlov and Richard. Meanwhile, Alex’s uncle fled to California the moment news of Richard’s arrest broke out. And no one had seen or heard from him since. Finally once I felt stable enough, I returned to work. But this time, I threw myself into it. Every minute was accounted for—meetings, reports, projects. Anything to keep my mind from wandering. But no matter how much I buried myself in work, thoughts of Alex still found a way in.Some nights, I stared at my call log, tempted to dial every unknown number that had contacted me in the past month just in case one of them was him. Maddox demanded. The man sneered. "I should be asking you that." But his expression shifted as though he recognized him. His narrowed eyes flicked over Maddox before he added, "Weren't you with that Alex guy the first time my boys and I came here?"Maddox gave a short chuckle. "Correct. And if you don’t want me calling the police, I suggest you step the hell away from her. Now."The thug raised his hands in surrender, exchanging a quick look with the man in glasses. The latter gave me a small bow before they both turned away.Maddox grabbed my wrist and pulled me away. We were about to pass my car when I stopped, gesturing toward the vehicle."Let’s talk in here."He nodded and slid into the passenger seat while I got behind the wheel. Chapter 26Reyna's POV:The day went by quickly, and before long, the night of the gala had arrived. But my mind wasn’t here.I smiled at the men surrounding me—middle-aged billionaires, the kind who had built their wealth long before my time. They were the type who had likely seen the world change a thousand times over and yet still clung to their outdated beliefs."You know, Mrs. Hudson," One of them, a portly man with graying hair and a cigar in hand, began. "I never thought Theos' wife would be able to manage the company after his passing. No offense, of course."I kept my smile intact. No offense, of course. As if that made it any less condescending.Another man chuckled. "We were all so worried. Hudson Corp is not an easy company to run, and we all thought, well... let's just say we expected you to struggle."I tilted my head slightly. "And yet, here we are. Hudson Corp is thriving, gentlemen."The portly man nodded, raising his glass. "You’ve done well, no doubt about it. We’r

If we don’t, their terms will put us at a disadvantage. The expansion project is already eating into our resources, and the last thing we need is a bad deal hanging over our heads.”Maddox nodded. “True. But you know Mercer Holdings—they’re as cutthroat as they come. If we push too hard, they might just pull out and take their investments elsewhere.”“That’s why I need to discuss this with my father.” I tapped my pen against the table, lost in thought. “He’s the one who put Mercer Holdings in our orbit to begin with. If anyone knows how to navigate their conditions, it’s him.”Maddox smirked. "The plan to expand into the European market is a great decision, but I don’t see your father signing off on it w

Chapter 36Reyna's POV:I couldn’t breathe.I couldn’t think.Theos’ words echoed in my mind relentlessly. “I fell in love with you, Reyna.”I stared at him, unable to process his words. How was I supposed to respond to that? How could I pretend that those words didn’t shake me to my very core? But before I could gather my thoughts, before I could even blink, Theos suddenly moved. Suddenly, he was on his feet.My eyes widened as he reached for me, his hand gently cupped my face, and his fingers trembled against my skin.“I missed you,” He murmured. And then, before I could stop him, before I could think—his lips descended toward mine.I gasped, frozen for a second as his breath brushed against my skin. It would be so easy to let this happen, but… I couldn’t.I pulled away. “No.”Theos froze. “Reyna?”I swallowed hard, forcing myself to look into his eyes. “I… I can’t do this.”His brows furrowed. “What do you mean?”Tears burned the back of my eyes, but I pushed them down. “I’ve moved

My heart had been on edge, anticipating either a devastating loss or a long-awaited miracle. And then, the call came.“We’ve found him,” The investigator’s voice was breathless. “He’s alive. We have him.”I almost dropped my phone. My knees weakened, but I forced myself to stay upright. “Where is he?” “He’s been taken to Mercy General Hospital.”I exhaled sharply. “Thank you,” I managed. “Thank you for everything. I’ll be there immediately.”I had already called Mr. Hudson earlier, filling him in about the search. Now, with trembling fingers, I dialed his number again. The call barely rang before he picked up.“Reyna?” His voice was anxious.“They found him, Mr. Hudson,” I said, my voice shaking. “He’s been taken to Mercy General.”There was silence, then a shaky breath. “My boy… he’s alive?”“Yes,” I whispered, feeling the sting of tears in my eyes.“I want to come,” He said immediately.

Chapter 34Reyna’s POV:It had been a few weeks since I moved in with Alex. Slowly, we had fallen into a rhythm, living together as if the past hadn't happened, as if we were just another happy couple figuring things out. But deep down, I knew we were still rebuilding. Some wounds don’t just vanish overnight. Then, the rumor started.Theos Hudson was alive. At first, I dismissed it as just another wild headline, a media stunt to stir up controversy. But then, a reporter—a close friend of Theos—claimed that he had received a message from Theos himself. A message saying he was being held hostage.I stared at the news in disbelief. "Theos..." I whispered, gripping my phone so tightly my fingers ached.Alex, who was sitting beside me, tensed. "Rey, don’t get your hopes up too fast. Theos' car was found in the ocean. His body never showed up, yes, but that doesn’t mean—"I shot him a look. "It means exactly that. If his body was never found, then there was always a chance he was alive."

If I had known—”Mr. Hudson smiled. “Reyna, you didn’t force yourself into this situation. I did.” He admitted. “My persistence and my need for Theos to carry on the family legacy pushed him into making such a decision.”"You can't keep blaming yourself for this," I said gently. I read the first message for the second time. Then the second message followed: “Come over, we need to talk.” Grandpa Roberto texted and my heart skipped a beat.Mr. Hudson never called or texted me. In the months I had been married to Theo, our interactions had been minimal, it was mostly a short conversation during business dinners. But now he wanted to see me?I turned to Alex, and I could see his mouth moving, but I couldn't hear him. I saw his lips moving, but the words never reached me. ‘Fuck.’ I muttered under my breath, as I shot up from the bed.“Reyna?” Alex’s voice rang out, but I didn’t stop.I rushed into the bathroom, and in less than a second, the sound of running water filled the place as I turned on the shower. Smiling, I leaned down and kissed him deeply. We pressed our tongues against one another, feeling each other's soft lips, then pulled back just a centimeter and let the tension between us build. And then we kiss again, more fervently, but still slowly. In the past, we were madly passionate and our lovemaking was energetic and wild. But tonight, I wanted to slow down and feel everything strongly.Gradually, we had a slow-burn night of sex and confessions. What I could last remember was Alex's last words to me before he passed out—"I love you, Reyna." He murmured with his eyes shut, cuddling me in his arms."I love you too, Alex," I confessed before I knew it and his eyes flew wide open.**** Alex's POV:I stirred, groaning slightly as my body felt oddly light. I hated how, despite everything, my thoughts still drifted back to him. After what happened at the gala, I had sworn to be done with him, to keep him out of my mind. But over the past few days, he had shown up countless times, calling me repeatedly just to apologize and insist that he had finally learned the truth. He kept talking about how much he wanted us to work things out and how foolish he had been. Yet, I ignored him every time, acting as if I didn’t care. But here I was, unable to ignore the one question in my head: ‘How did everything circle back to me when it was Chloe who had an affair with his father?’ Sighing, I shook my head. ‘Enough, I need to move on.’ I said to myself. The sudden chime of the doorbell pulled me from my spiraling thoughts. I frowned, glancing at the time on my lapt
