As Arwena climbed the stairs to her home, a broad smile spread across her face. She knew exactly what awaited her every time she returned from work.

“Mommy!” There it was—the sweet greeting, a kiss, and a tight hug from her energetic, adorable son.

“How was your day, Mommy?” Nathan asked, his bright smile lighting up the room.

She grinned and playfully pinched his nose. “My day was great! How about yours?” she replied, pulling him into a hug as he giggled.

“Awesome!” he exclaimed with a grin.

Five years had passed since Arwena’s darkest moment, and the child she once thought would ruin her life had become her greatest reason to live—and to be happy.

Though she had moved on, she could never forget Nathan’s father, Mr. Tandre. How could she? Their son was his spitting image. Every time she looked at Nathan, it was like seeing Mr. Tandre all over again.

“Where’s Daddy?” she asked after cuddling with her son.

“In the kitchen,” he said, tugging at her hand and pulling her toward the room.

“Hi, Arc,” she greeted, giving Archie a quick kiss on the cheek.

“Perfect timing! Dinner’s ready,” Archie replied, smiling as he set the steaks on the table before leaning in to kiss her cheek.

Archie had kept his promise. He stood by Arwena and had become Nathan’s father figure. He was her rock through it all, helping her raise her son. Nathan knew Archie wasn’t his biological father—they had never hidden the truth from him. Besides, Archie wasn’t exactly the traditional father type.

As they sat down for dinner, laughing and sharing stories, Archie suddenly said, “Wena, I’m glad you finally got in touch with your parents. Things are good now, right?”

Arwena froze midbite, her smile faltering. “What are you talking about, Arch? What do you mean things are good with my parents?”

Archie gave her a puzzled look, glancing at Nathan, who was thankfully engrossed in his food.

“Wena, you don’t have to hide it from me. I’m happy for you! Your mommy called earlier, checking up on you. She even left her number and asked you to call her when you have time,” Archie explained, his smile unwavering, oblivious to her growing disbelief.

“Where did you hear this, Arch?” she asked, her voice lowering as her stomach churned.

Nathan didn’t even know he had grandparents. Her parents had no idea she had a child. It had been five years since she last spoke to them—since she abruptly left home. As far as she knew, they were still angry with her.

“Your mommy called! She left her number, Wena,” Archie insisted, sounding slightly defensive.

Arwena stood up, leaving her food untouched. Archie bit his lip, realizing he might have misunderstood the situation.

She walked over to the counter, her heart pounding as she stared at the sticky note with the number written on it. Slowly, she picked it up and sat down, her hands trembling as she dialed the numbers. Holding her breath, she listened to the line ring.

"Hello,” came a soft, familiar voice from the other end.

Arwena’s throat tightened, and for a moment, she couldn’t speak. Hearing her mommy’s voice after so long overwhelmed her. Tears welled up in her eyes.

“Who’s this?" her mommy asked, her voice cautious but hopeful. “Arwena?”

“Mommy…” Arwena whispered, tears streaming down her cheeks. Her voice broke as she tried to steady herself. “How are you? Where’s Daddy?”

Her mommy let out a soft sob, the sound piercing Arwena’s heart. “We’re not okay, Arwena—not since you left.”

Guilt washed over her, and she closed her eyes, fighting the lump in her throat. “I’m so sorry, Mommy. I shouldn’t have left you.”

“We should be the ones apologizing, sweetheart. It took us five years to find you,” her mommy said, her voice trembling.

“How did you get my number?” Arwena asked, trying to compose herself.

“We saw your name and number in a well-known real estate company magazine in Maine.”

Arwena managed a small smile. After all, she had worked tirelessly to become the top real estate agent in her company. Seeing her name in a business magazine wasn’t surprising.

“Mommy, I’m the one who did wrong. If anyone should apologize, it’s me,” she said, trying to inject some cheer into her tone. But no matter how hard she tried, the sadness lingered.

“Arwena, please come home,” her mommy pleaded through soft sobs. “Your daddy and I miss you.”

“I miss you both too, Mommy,” she said, smiling faintly through her tears.

“Please come home, sweetheart. The truth is… your daddy and I need you.”

Arwena hesitated, the words catching in her throat. Could she face the people who had hurt her before? Could she forgive them?
