CHAPTER THIRTY-SEVEN.
ROSALIE'S POV.
Ophelia jolted to her feet, catching people's attention and she began to misbehave. First, she clenched her head, then her stomach, and altogether, her body, like a fire was burning all over her body.
"Ah!" She shouted painfully and began to clench hurriedly and I watched her eyes producing pain, "Make this stop!" She shouted again.
Someone angrily banged the table beside and I turned to the source to see the phoenix king consumed in anger, "What the hell is this?! Stop your madness and stop creating a scene here!" He yelled at her.
From the words he spoke, it was said that he thought that Ophelia was framing the pains and everything like she was pretending, and that was exactly what I wanted, for everyone to hate her and for her to feel pain.
"No! Take the pain away, it hurts!" She shouted more, and her tears began to pull out like a waterfall.
"Scott!" The phoenix king shouted the name that all t
CHAPTER THIRTY-EIGHT.ROSALIE'S POV.I knew I shouldn't be interacting with the vampire king, Dracula, but since he was not making any advances towards me, then, there was no point in acting weird.I glanced at him again and stared away, "Aren't you supposed to be somewhere, sucking some juicy blood like you people call it?""Yes, I should, but I was summoned here to this party, and the blood around smells awful," Then I felt him leaning towards me, and I leaned away, "Until I perceive yours." He completed his words and took a deep breath of the air."Sweet."I cleared my throat and immediately stood up, giving out a meaningful space between the both of us. "I think I should leave.""Don't bother, your guard is coming, and beware, we will meet again." Like that, he disappeared into thin air."Goodness!" I almost squeaked out. It was so sudden, and I took a step backwards but collided with Jacqueline."Hey, are you okay?"I turned to him, "There was a vampire here, and he disappeared."
CHAPTER THIRTY-NINE.ROSALIE'S POV.A sudden knock resounding on the door got Jacqueline reluctantly disengaging from me. "What?!" He snapped angrily at the person by the door."Alpha, we brought the dinner you requested." The voices of the maids chorused."Dammit! I don't want the dinner anymore!"I pulled away from his arms immediately, creating a meaningful space between us, and said, "Hey, you might not want the food, but I need it. I'm starving."He roughed up his hair frustratedly, not hiding his disappointment.Well, I ignored the look. I turned away and began to return to the bathroom, "Thanks for helping with the zipper anyway.""I'm not done with it yet."I ignored his words and increased my pace into the bathroom, it was when I was safely locked in there that I could release my breath.I rested my head on the door with my eyes closed, and like that, everything began to replay in my head, his touch, the way he looked at me, the way he was all over me, his kisses, everything.
CHAPTER FORTY.ROSALIE'S POV.I woke up and rolled over to the other side of the bed with my eyes closed to know if Jacqueline was on the bed and if it was too early to rise. When I felt, I didn't feel him. His side of the bed was very cold, meaning he had left the bed for a long time, that was, if he slept on it throughout the night.Though I could remember I felt the bed dipping with weight last night when I was dozing off, and it was Jacqueline, I could remember I was swallowed up by his scent."Jacqueline?" I called and got out of bed.I adjusted my nightgown. Then I moved towards the bathroom. I was feeling pressed.I had raised my hand to the knob and opened it before I could reason that Jacqueline might be in there, "Shit!" I gasped for nothing. There was no Jacqueline in sight, so, I moved in.I relieved myself and returned to the room, and that time, I became attentive to everything in the room, "Jacqueline?" I called again, but no sight of him.'Where the hell is he?' I wond
CHAPTER FORTY-ONE.JACQUELINE'S POV.I knew I would not win all these powerful creatures if I was not smart enough, and since Rosalie was beautiful, had sweet blood, spoke charmingly, and every other thing they wanted, I resolved to use her against all of them. That was why I couldn't sleep throughout the night. I had to do some research about each of them, and since I could feel Rosalie's fear last night when the vampire interacted with her, I decided to act faster.I had mind-linked Carl last night and directed him to the ancient library in the pack to help me with my research.I learned that all creatures get weak when their loved ones are mistreated or mishandled, though some don't care much about things like that. For Dracula, I knew he wouldn't let Rosalie go because of her blood, he would want to have her by any means, and I was ready for him. When Rosalie was sleeping, I had dressed her neck with garlic, knowing that the neck was a vampire's favourite spot for a draw of blood,
CHAPTER FORTY-TWO.AUTHOR'S POV.In a cold room in the kingdom of the phoenix, all the six leaders of each kingdom and pack were present, and all of them, though with different faces, nature, and characters, had something in common at that moment: Anger. They all had different ways of expressing it, and it was like they were hiding it under an expressionless face, except Dracula, whose face was deeply in a frown. He had managed to get the garlic off his body, but the pain was still burning his throat, constantly reminding him of the unforgettable pain he went through."I'll kill him," He vowed after much thought, "I'll kill him and make him the first alpha I'll suck dry."Each of the leaders nodded to him in agreement."He is a strong and smart boy, how can we kill him then?" One of them questioned the others. They all got into thinking. They had all planned well for Jacqueline's visit, and according to what they had expected, they had thought that Jacqueline would be with his ancesto
CHAPTER FORTY-THREE.ROSALIE'S POV.I had dressed up when the time came for the party, but then, I felt my period kicking in, and cramps held my stomach, "Ah!" I groaned. That was the single groan that led Jacqueline and me to the kingdom's clinic. He said he had to be sure I was okay and fit to attend the party or, better still, stay back, which I didn't want.I had to take a herb which fought against the cramps and I was okay."Are you sure there is no pain anymore?" Jacqueline questioned me to be sure."Yes. I'm very sure, and I'm okay now, you shouldn't worry about me."He nodded and we moved to the hall.We stepped into the hall, I was not chanced to check out everywhere as I desired. We were blocked and crowded by the leaders and some guards, who looked strangely at us like they had turned down the palace for our location.I smiled towards the leaders, "Good evening, leaders."They all nodded to my greeting and pointed towards the guards, "These guards had prepared themselves to
CHAPTER FORTY-FOUR.ROSALIE'S POV.'The garden of pain.' I muttered in my heart, I was too shocked to say anything to them.I watched as Dracula moved towards a bed of lavender and touched its thorns, smiling, "Do you know that one has to feel pain one way or the other for like a million times in a lifetime?"I sighed but replied not to him."Hey," The fairy queen called me and I took my attention to him/her, "Are you scared?"I shook my head, "No."I was not close to being scared, I was just astonished since everything seemed strange and abnormal.Okay, maybe nothing was to be normal about things relating to these people. They were abnormal themselves, and it could have been better if they could pretend to be better people, but Dracula was just doing everything too much.I didn't blame him, though; he only wanted my blood, but he had to experience pain and endless wishes, and he was almost ripped off what he craved."You're a strange woman, anyone will be scared at this moment. Aren'
CHAPTER FORTY-FIVE.JACQUELINE'S POV.I knew it was not a good idea to leave Rosalie alone by herself to go off with the leaders, but I had to do so. It was like if I didn't, they would attack me with her, so I had to give them a chance to try their luck with me."I will be fine, I promise," I assured Rosalie and I meant that promise. When I was leaving with the leaders, I turned back to see her sitting there alone and I could feel her worries for me. *Should we return to her?* Jack questioned me, and I sighed.*No.*I know that if we did, we would be risking more.I decided to focus on the people I was with and to be ready for any sudden attack. The phoenix king came towards me and initiated a conversation. "How did you see the palace so far?""Good. But not good enough to keep enemies away," I told to him."You're wrong. My enemies can't step into the palace, except for the ones I let in." He defended.I huffed. "We will see to that."We got to a widely opened balcony and I reasone
CHAPTER SIXTY-FIVE.JACQUELINE'S POV.My bond with Rosalie was pulling me forward into Scott's pack house like an invisible thread. My breathing was ragged, my muscles burning from the effort I had made, but I didn’t care.Nothing mattered except getting to her.I shifted back to my human form when her scent got very strong, and I moved closer on foot, leaving my sweat to tick out of all the tiny holes in my body.I sniffled the air and her scent led me to a heavy metal door at the end of a dimly lit corridor. My heart pounded in my chest as I approached, the sounds of muffled voices filtering through the thick steel. I stood by the door and listened, catching the conversation going on in the room so clearly."Tell us Rosalie, is he dead?" The phoenix king's voice demanded, his tone dripping with malice.
CHAPTER SIXTY-FOUR.JACQUELINE'S POV.This was why I was awake from my slumber, it was all for her, Rosalie. I reasoned that she wouldn't be doing so fine in my absence, and I heard each of the words she spoke to me when I was asleep. She told me, "Wake up, Jacqueline, I'm waiting for you."It got me so much ease that I couldn't but want to wake up, and when I woke up, I was alone in a lonely safe room.'What am I doing here?' I thought.I sat down on the bed and thought about it all to see if I could fish out a memory relating to my presence in a room far away from my chamber. It clicked in like rushing water..."Jacqueline, hold on now, I'll heal you....""Jacqueline, why are you not waking up? People will begin to notice your absence....""I think we have to keep him for a
CHAPTER SIXTY-THREE.AUTHOR'S POV.Susan was so uneasy as she moved to the room Carl described to her that she would see Jacqueline. She kept her steps light, her breaths shallow, as she moved purposefully toward Jacqueline’s hidden room. The memory of Carl’s urgent instructions through the mind-link guided her.She had written down the description so that she wouldn't forget about it whenever she was ready to go.Susan rounded a corner and froze when she saw Briana.Briana was standing in her path, her arms crossed and her expression unreadable. It was like Briana was waiting for her.The torchlight Susan was holding onto flickered and fell from her hand, casting ominous shadows across Briana's sharp features.Susan’s heart banged in her ribcage, but she
CHAPTER SIXTY-TWO.ROSALIE'S POV.I woke up in the morning to see myself in Carl's fluffy body. He had shifted to his wolf and he was wrapping himself around me, keeping me away from the cold."Carl," I called him and he replied to me with a low growl. Then he flipped us over, turning to the other side of the room."Hey, Carl." I called him again, tapping him, "Let go, you're suffocating me."He growled again but let me go.I stood up to my feet to stare around the new place we were taken to and saw it was just like the first one. It was equally a cold room. When I was away from Carl's embrace, I felt coldness hitting me, and I rubbed my palms together to generate some heat for myself.I turned to Carl and said, "I hate it here."He grunted in response and kept his posture on the floor, still in h
CHAPTER SIXTY-ONE.ROSALIE’S POVMy heart raced when a voice from nowhere spoke out. I had to put on a fake bravery and force myself to speak. “We mean no harm. We were thrown in here against our will.”I spoke with my eyes everywhere, trying to locate the source of the voice. The voice seemed to consider those little words of mine, the light dimming slightly, but stable. “Your intentions are irrelevant. Only your hearts will decide your fate.” It said to us.The light flared, enveloping us in a blinding glow.I felt a surge of energy, a sensation both foreign and familiar as if the very essence of my soul was being laid bare.Carl groaned beside me, and I reached out, gripping his hand tightly.“Hold on,” I whispered, though I wasn’t sure who I was trying to
CHAPTER SIXTY.ROSALE'S POV.The cold in the icy cold room was unbearable, seeping into my bones as I clung to Carl, who barely managed to stay conscious. My mind raced with desperate thoughts, each one more dangerous than the last. I had to find a way out, but the frost-covered walls loomed like a tomb around us, mocking my efforts.Carl’s shallow breathing filled the silence. "Carl," I called while shaking him back over. His words echoed in my ears when he responded, “I’m fine.” But he wasn’t fine. His body was weakening, and if I didn’t act soon, I might lose him.I know.*What can I do, Rose? We can't die here, can we?* I confined in my wolf.Rose snarled in my mind, with her voice ever sharp. *We can’t stay here. We have to find a way out, Rosalie! We’re stronger than this.*I drew a shaky breath, forcing myself to focus. My eyes scanned the room, searching for anything that might serve as a means of escape with my arms still around Carl. I watched the frost on the walls as
CHAPTER FIFTY-NINE.ROSALIE'S POV.My heart stopped. My breath caught in my throat again. Before I could react, Scott threw his head back and let out a laugh, a chilling, devilish sound that echoed through the corridor like the wail of a tortured soul. His entire demeanour shifted, the mask of sincerity falling away to reveal something far darker than I had been thinking.“What’s so funny?” Carl demanded, stepping forward, his body tense and ready to fight. But I could see he was not stable, his legs were wobbling under him. 'Is he okay?'"I said, what's funny?!" Carl yelled at Scott.Scott’s laughter subsided, but the wicked grin remained. “Oh, you poor fools. Did you think I’d risk everything just to save you? You’re nothing more than pawns in a much larger game.”I felt the blood drain from my face. Rose howled in rage, the truth of her warnings now undeniable. *I knew it!* She exclaimed.I ignored her to focus on Scott.“What do you mean?” I asked him in a shaking voice despite
CHAPTER FIFTY-EIGHT.ROSALIE'S POV.Carl and I followed Scott out of the pack, and when we got outside, we halted before three sleek black cars, which were parked right there with his guards sweeping all around them like ants do to sugar.A door was opened for us, "Enter in." We were commanded.I had lost the zeal to go with Scott. I never knew that he was planning to take us out of the pack. If he does, how then do we take care of Jacqueline?Carl peaked unto my face, "Why are we stopping? Aren't we following him anymore?""I thought going with him was a better idea. I'm sorry."Scott cut into our words and said, "Too late to apologise!"We were pushed into the car, and it zoomed off immediately, with the others coming behind us.'Why am I not thoughtful enough?' I beat myself up, 'I'm stupid! Stupid.'"Hey, hey, stop it. I'll just tell Susan about Jacqueline's location and she will take care of him for the time we will be away." Carl said to me."What if she snitch on us again?""Do
CHAPTER FIFTY-SEVEN.ROSALIE'S POV.The cold floor of the hallway pressed against my footwear as I stumbled forward with Carl and was led forward by the guards who were surrounding us. Lennox was present too, and I had been seeing the demonic smirk he plastered on his face since we left the room.I stared at my hands, which had been bound in front of me to keep me from thinking of running or escaping successfully, which I was so thinking. Beside me, Carl walked with his head held high, his expression defiant despite the bruises forming on his cheek and jaw. He had been hit severally, as per Lennox's order to keep him shut and submissive.Though they didn't succeed in keeping him submissive, they were able to keep his mouth shut.I knew that he would be in a biting pain right now and he was healing ever slowly. He was beaten with silver, for he was just too stubborn, just like Jacqueline. The guards on either side of us shoved us forward disrespectfully when our pace faltered, and th
