In the sprawling apartment, only the two of them were present, the space echoing with emptiness and silence. Lily lay sprawled in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, doing nothing, not speaking, her eyes forlornly gazing out at the view, silent as if lost in a trance.

Julian Sterling had just finished a business call in the study. When he came out and saw her listless form, a pang of discomfort struck his heart. He strode over quickly, lifting her effortlessly around the waist and settling her onto the sofa, "Why are you as light as a feather?"
