He was quiet while driving, which isn't like him and that shows he was lost in thoughts. Maybe she might tell him a fraction of it if he asks.
Benjamin was taken aback by her request to go home with him, he was not happy because he knew she was running from something. That's why he ended up doing the opposite of what she asked.
