Dinner talk was a continuation of questions that would help them understand where they were and what to expect while there. Arthur expressed his desire for them to stay in Hopeville with him, but Kendra and Rex were non-committal. As was Ari. Felix and Olga, on the other hand, were eager to settle in.
Since they could come up with no other reason not to stay in Arthur’s village than the fact that they were eager to continue on to retrieve -and possibly rescue- Eugene from Center Land, they stayed silent and remained amiable while Olga and Felix peppered their host with questions about life there.
When it came time to call it a night, they didn’t know if they were exhausted from their ordeal of trekking through the pitch black tunnel or from pummeling Arthur with a barrage of questions. Since Arthur’s home provided only one bedroom and a pull out sofa in his little office, Kendra and Rex insisted that the newlyweds take the office. Olga shamelessly accepted Arthur’s offer to sleep with him in his room. If she’d been concerned about what her family might think, she needn’t have been. Each and every one of them, including Ari, were elated to see her finally happy.
Sleeping bags were rolled out onto the living room floor for Kendra and Rex.
Since he’d yet to have his turn in the shower, Rex allowed himself a longer and hotter one than the others had been able to take as compensation for being last as well as having to sleep on the floor.
If the truth were to be known, neither he nor Kendra were strangers to spending the night on the hard ground in sleeping bags, so, of all of the people under that roof, they were the least to be affected by it in a negative way. In fact, with the carpet beneath them and a warm floor beneath that, the accommodations were quite comfortable.
“I’m exhausted, wife,” he said as he exited the bathroom in all of his naked glory while vigorously rubbing the moisture from his freshly washed hair.
“Someone might come out,” Kendra hissed. “You should cover yourself.”
He gave her a grin that was a mixture of mischief and lust as he crawled on the floor next to her. “I’ve been longing to be alone with you.”
She felt like a nervous schoolgirl as he snuggled up close to her.
He tossed the towel across the room. “I’ve been wanting to make love to you since we escaped that place, but I feared rejection. I’m hoping that won’t happen now that we’re kind of back together. Am I right?”
She propped herself on her elbow and supported her head with her hand. “When were we ever apart?”
He rolled onto his back and folded his powerful arms so that his hands were behind his head while he looked up at the ceiling. The glow of the moonlight filtered through the nearby windowpane just enough to allow him to see her facial expressions. He was just afraid to look. “You’ve been acting standoffish since we escaped. I figured it was because you were turned off by what happened and didn’t want me touching you.”
She took a deep breath. “It wasn’t really like that. Kind of, but not…”
“I don’t blame you,” he interrupted. “I wouldn’t want to be with a man who’d been used like a stud animal to breed woman after woman like I was, either. I feel almost contaminated from the inside out. I imagine you’re experiencing the same when you’re near me.”
“I was used too,” she reminded him.
“I suspected as much,” he sighed as he quickly glanced at the baby that was soundly sleeping on a thick cushion a few yards away. “But it’s my baby that you escaped with.”
“I miscarried,” she choked out. “I kept it a secret so that I could be removed from the breeding rotation.”
“That was smart,” he said. Then, after a moment of silence, he asked, “Is that why you didn’t want me to touch you? Because you experienced, firsthand, what I was doing day after day?”
She shook her head. A small tear escaped her eye and slid down her cheek as she assured him that he had it all wrong. It wasn’t him that she was disgusted with. It was her. She hated herself for what happened and for the fact that she’d done little to stop it. Drug or no drug, she should have done something. When he insisted that she elaborate, she gathered the courage to tell him about the repeated raping from the guards even after she was removed from the breeding rotation and no longer receiving the shot that consumed her faculties and made her an amiable breeder. She also told of the continual theft of her milk and how helpless and violated she felt. It was a difficult story to tell, but she inherently knew that if they didn’t open up and tell all, there would always be a barrier between them. So, she took a risk that telling all would put them on the road toward returning to the way they were instead of driving them further apart.
Rex waited for her to finish her story before saying, “So, just to be clear. You waited until you were no longer effected by the drugs and there was only one guard before you fought back?”
“My head was back to normal before that,” she admitted.
He took a deep breath, pulled her close, and placed a light kiss on her forehead. “Listen to me, my love. What you did was very brave. Let’s not forget that you were a prisoner in what I expect was an enormous complex that was filled with aliens and evil men just like the guards who used you so wrongly. They could have killed you for fighting back.”
“I was hoping that they would,” she admitted.
“I’m thankful they didn’t,” he said in a soft voice.
“It was after I fought back that I met my first alien. She was super intimidating,” she said.
Rex chuckled as he said, “I won’t argue with that one. The female who captured me was mammoth.”
“The one who they called for after I fought back and raised such a ruckus had the guard that I fought off killed as punishment,” she continued. Then, with a sad tone, she added, “He turned out to be the brother of the woman who rescued us.”
“Woah,” Rex said as he kissed her temple. “Not only did you suffer physically, but it was an emotional hell on so many levels for you. My poor love.”
“You too,” she protested.
He vigorously shook his head. “I was drugged almost as soon as I was captured. The entire ordeal is one big blur.”
He considered telling her about his illusion of seeing his first wife and child grown up, but decided against it. In many ways, his wife was broken and needed time to mend. Giving her a reason to think that he still pined for his first wife and envisioned her instead of Kendra while locked up was simply asking for trouble. He couldn’t explain why it happened. He assumed that it was guilt, but he’d probably never know for certain.
“Will you kiss me?” she asked with meek hesitation.
“You need to ask?” he replied as he repositioned himself and gently lowered his lips to hers. “I’ll kiss you all night, if that’s what you want.”
She reached up to hold his head in place while she inched closer, until she was practically beneath him. His mouth stayed on hers as he cautiously traced her curves with his fingers. At first, every inch of her body stiffened with tension, but he didn’t stop. Instead, he slowly caressed her until he could feel her resistance fading.
When it felt like it was the right thing to do, he lifted the tee shirt that she’d worn to sleep in and cupped her breast. Since his lips were still consuming hers, she sucked in air through her nose as she arched her back. It was the signal that he was waiting for. He released her lips and quickly pulled the tee shirt over her head. It was easy to see that her abundant breasts were wanting and ready, but he still hesitated. Her body was ready, but was her mind?
“Are you okay with this?” he whispered.
Her voice cracked as she asked, “If I’m not, will you stop?”
“Absolutely,” he assured her in a low, sultry tone that gave her chills. “Give me a safe word. If I hear you say it, I’ll stop no matter what.”
“I don’t know what word to use,” she said. “I don’t understand what you mean.”
He gave a low chuckle at her naivety. “My beautiful wife. I only want you to feel safe with me. If there ever comes a time when you don’t like what’s happening and no longer feel safe, you need only say the word and I’ll stop. But, we need a word to identify that.”
“Oh,” she giggled. “Okay.” Her eyes lit up in a playful manner as she thought about what word to use.
After an excruciatingly lengthy time, Rex grew impatient. “Are you going to give me a word?”
“I’m thinking,” she said.
“Good grief,” he complained. “I’ll pick the word. How about ‘safe’. Just say the word ‘safe’ and I’ll stop.”
“That’s not very imaginative,” she pouted.
“No, it’s not,” he admitted, “but it will do the job.”
She heaved a satisfied sigh as she adjusted her body beneath him. “Okay.”
Noticing that there had been enough time for the arousal that he’d created in her body to dissipate, he slowly began to tease her again. He took his time tracing her erogenous zones with is hands until he was sure that it was safe to include his lips in the mix.
It wasn’t long before their love making was back to the old and familiar. As he suckled her breasts while working his magic on her womanhood with his hands, she realized that this was exactly what she needed to wash away the memories of the brutal violating that she’d endured.
When he finally entered her, it was slow and beautiful. Again, something that she desperately needed. When he released his seed and remained inside of her while whispering his undying love, she made no mention of the fact that he’d taken no precaution against pregnancy. Not that she minded having his baby. She’d love nothing more than to feel the life that he’d placed inside of her growing. Her only concern was that she’d rather not conceive until after they’d retrieved her son from the hands of those people and found a place to settle into and make their home. She wondered if he’d even taken pregnancy into consideration or if his time as a captive had caused him to grow so accustomed to simply releasing his seed upon orgasm that he did it automatically.
She’d been impregnated twice already, so she knew that she was fertile. She just questioned if damage had been done during her miscarriage. Or, perhaps there were side effects to the shots that she and Rex were submitted to. Maybe she couldn’t conceive again, or it wouldn’t be as easy to conceive. Although she wanted and prayed that she was still fertile, in some small way, she hoped that it would be a little more difficult for her to conceive. She needed her body to stay in top form for what lay ahead.
She shrugged off her concerns as she felt his need for her returning. Whatever was meant to be, would be. At that moment, all that truly mattered was that she and Rex were on the road to normalcy; something she knew that they both wanted. If it was sex that was going to take them all the way back to their normal point, then, so be it. Soon it was her initiating the slow, rhythmic movements that would eventually become aggressive thrusts that would take them both to the stars and back.
After several more sessions of intense love making, they lay, completely spent, and listened to the night’s silence. To their surprise, amusement, and satisfaction, they heard a soft male roar as he reached his orgasmic peak coming from behind Arthur’s bedroom door. It was followed by a feminine moan of pleasure. Silence was just settling back in when they heard lighthearted giggling trickling through the door.
Rex chuckled, softly. “I’d have expected to hear that coming from the office. Felix tells me that when it works, it works well. It being their first night in a bed after their wedding, I’m assuming he’s got it working.”
Kendra gave him a light slap and scoffed. “You need to mind your business, my love. What anyone is doing behind doors isn’t our business.”
“Unless they make it so with a nice loud roar,” Rex said, laughingly as he slid his arm beneath Kendra and pulled her close.
She rolled onto her side and draped her lean leg over her husband’s abdomen. With a smile of satisfaction, she said in a soft, breathy whisper, “No one should be alone and without love. That’s been a long time coming.”
Olga stretched in a cat-like manner as she watched her long lost lover’s lean physique stride from the bed to the dresser.“You aren’t leaving this bed, are you?” she cooed as she shifted her slender body onto its side. A teasing glint appeared in her eyes. “Are you seriously going to tell me that’s all you have to offer?”Arthur turned and gave her a sly, sensual smirk. His faded blue eyes twinkled with amusement as they took in every inch of her naked loveliness. It may have been close to two decades since he’d enjoyed her sweetness between the sheets, but she’d not changed one bit. Her breasts were still large and firm enough to hold steady against gravity’s constant tugging. Although she was noticeably thinner than before the war, her lean hips were still smooth and curvy; just as he’d remembered them. Considering the hardships that she’d endured -along with the rest of mankind- her
It took less than an hour for Arthur to give them a tour of the little village called Hopeville. He was careful to explain where the village boundaries lay. Although he didn’t give a reason sufficient enough to satisfy Kendra, he was adamant in his request that they remain within the boundaries of the village at all times. If they did need to leave, he was insistent that they take one of the villagers with them. Since she and Rex had already given him a decent display of their ability to take care of themselves in the event of a beastly encounter, Kendra suspected that there was more behind his request than the simple fear of extinct creature encounters. She considered approaching him about it, but, then, thought better of it. There would be a right time for all questions without pushing at the wrong time for them to be answered. When they were finally left to their own devices, the group split up. Much to Felix’s pu
Tiny beads of sweat reflected the thin rays of light that danced off of Kendra’s naked flesh in an almost surreal fashion as she lay in her husband’s strong arms and looked up at the lacey canopy above them. She knew that they were risking being caught by a passerby and should dress just in case, but the feel of the warm, clean air upon her moist flesh was like a silken caress. It was almost as seductive as making love with Rex. She wasn’t ready to give it up quite yet.“We’ve made love in the out of doors quite a lot,” she mused as she nestled her cheek against his chest, “but it’s never felt like this. The air is different here.”“It’s untainted,” Rex said. “You can feel the purity of it long before you breathe it in.”“It’s a bit heavier too, I think,” Kendra offered. He knit his brows together in thought. “I b
The faint sound of a woman screaming filtered through the trees just as Felix and Ari were about to enter Arthur’s little cottage. Felix’s heart skipped a beat as recognition hit him. “That’s Kendra!”“How do you know?” Ari asked with a scowl as she attempted to pull him through the door. “It’s probably a wild animal that sounds human when it screeches. Remember, their different here.”“That was a human scream,” he protested.“What’s the matter?” Olga asked as she walked into the living room with the baby in her arms to find Felix resisting Ari’s attempts to pull him inside.“Kendra just screamed,” he said with urgency.“What?” Olga barked with concern as she moved closer to them. “How do you know? Where is she?”Ari glowered at Felix as she silently dared him to admit to his aunt that he
She would have liked nothing more than to be able to remove her head from her shoulders and shove it somewhere far away so that she’d no longer have to suffer from the piercing pain that permeated from the blow she’d received. Kendra had come around an easy fifteen minutes earlier, but, since she wasn’t alone and wanted time to study her situation, she’d feigned still being knocked out.“How hard did you hit her?” a woman demanded in a worried tone.“I didn’t think it was that hard,” replied another in a defensive tone. “She fooled me. I thought she’d be made of sturdier stock than she is. She’s the first surface person I’ve encountered.”“She should have come around by now. Minerva won’t be happy about this,” complained the first woman.“I don’t know why you’re angry with Jeena, Petra,” said a third w
Kendra’s mind whirled as she followed Jeena to the food tent. She’d managed to convince Minerva to stay and answer more questions. She discovered that the Amazon women were on a bi-annual surveillance trip about their territory and that they had a home with real buildings that they lived in. These trips were to get an idea of what was happening in the area around them. They rarely interacted with the people that they watched. They simply made note of what they were about so that they could keep on top of things should someone be planning a move that they would consider harmful to their own kind. It also gave them an idea of how well the wildlife was faring. They took a special interest in the well-being of the creatures who co-habited with them and dealt severely with those who were cruel or inhumane to them. She’d learned that, not only had they observed her and Rex making love, but they’d seen a blonde male and petite bl
Olga paced about the living room while she waited for Arthur to complete his arrangements for their travel. He not only needed to arrange for sufficient horses, but there was the baby to find competent care for. He’d never encountered someone from Center Land, so he had his doubts about them being the ones to kidnap Kendra and Rex. He told her and Felix of a small group of rogue Amazon women who occasionally roamed the area. Although he couldn’t be sure, he was more apt to believe it was them who took her niece and nephew.“What would Amazon women want with them?” Olga mused aloud. “I thought they were warriors fighting on the side of right.”“They are,” Arthur said. “Unfortunately, there are bad apples in every bunch. This group was cast out a few years back and have been wandering about like nomads ever since. I’ve heard rumors that they occasional
His mouth was so dry that it felt like he’d swallowed a cup full of sand. He needed water, but there was no one in sight to ask for it. He questioned if they’d give it to him anyway. Since he’d been captured, the treatment that Rex had received was harsher than anything he’d experienced. The flesh on the goose egg that the blow to his head had caused was broken, yet he’d been given no medical care for it. He was so worried about infection that he’d used most of the water that his captors had provided to wash it out; leaving very little to quench his thirst with. His head finally felt clearer. For quite a while, his world was nothing more than a dizzy blur. Now, at least, he was able to decipher that he was being transported east toward a community of aliens to be sold or traded for staples that the Amazon camp was in need of.He’d tried to telepathically reach first Arthur and then Olga, but
It took two days of traveling over what they considered treacherous ground to reach Hope. Between keeping their eyes open for newly made alien and amazon zombies and the wild beasts- many of which were prehistoric- their nerves were completely spent by the time they stumbled into Arthur’s house.Alice was sitting on the porch when she spotted them coming down the hill toward the village. Racing into the house, she frantically prepared him for their arrival.Although Arthur was relieved that his love had returned to him and eager to hold her in his arms again, he dreaded having to give the group the news of Ari’s demise. He’d struggled for days to think of the right way to tell them and had yet to come up with it.Pete’s absence was immediately noticed. Although Arthur was saddened, he wasn’t surprised by the news that his friend had succumbed to the virus. Pete wasn’t immune to it and, therefore, was taking a
Luck was with them as they slipped through the door and scurried across the wide, well-lit corridor and into the shadows. There was no sign of life, but they dared not speak. Drawing from her experience as a prisoner in the past, Kendra behaved as she had while escaping from the alien camp on the surface and slipped from shadow to shadow as silently as possible.Once again, Olga telepathically spoke to Kendra. “These bastards speak a crazy language, but I managed to decipher the location of Eugene. Look for a door with two ‘X’s’, an upside down ‘V’ and an ‘O’ on it in the west wing. That’s where he is. Hurry, they’re preparing to send a search party out for our bodies.”Feeling the pressure of the urgency, Kendra motioned for Pete and Felix to follow her as she turned a corner and began surveying the writing on the doors. They were already in the west wing, but she saw nothi
The trio cautiously made their way to the south wall of the settlement in hopes of encountering fewer zombies. They had no choice but to cross a small clearing, but managed to escape notice from the guards patrolling the walls. Fortunately, the zombies that they were forced to battle were ones that had regressed to a manageable state of brain dead and were fairly easy to eliminate.Once they’d reached the wall, Pete looked for signs of a possible entry, but could find none. Although she wasn’t as certain about what to look for, Kendra also searched the exterior of the settlement with her eyes, but saw nothing as well.“We might be too close,” Pete mused. “After all, it would be an escape tunnel.”“Where would it come out, then?” Kendra asked with angst. This was a new situation for both of them. She couldn’t be upset with Pete or Felix for not thinking about that before they’d ri
Kendra was concerned.Rex was in trance for what she deemed an excessive length of time. What could he possibly be seeing that would take him so long? She was seriously considering joining him in trance to find out, but, then, thought better of it.Moving close to her aunt she whispered, “Do you think that one of us should go into trance to see what’s happening? He might need to be pulled back.”Olga knit her brows together. She’d been thinking the very same thing. It had never happened to her, but she’d heard about visionaries getting stuck in a vision and needing assistance coming back. It was a rare occurrence, but it did happen. She grabbed her niece’s hand and held it to her heart. “It must be me who goes in to see what’s up. If he’s stuck, you aren’t adept enough to bring him back.”She knew that her aunt spoke the truth, but the realit
Kendra was surprised at how close they were to Center Land. The temptation to enter the city and demand the return of her son was almost all consuming. It took extreme willpower to continue on past it toward the alien’s settlement.“Do you think that alien in the amazon’s cell was from this place?” she asked as they carefully slipped behind a large boulder and looked down upon the modest sized alien settlement.Even though it was modest, it was still impressive. The walls were lined with barbed wire that made the community look more like a prison than a place of residence. Looking off in the distance, they soon learned the reason for the set up. With eyes wide with surprise, they watched as several zombies cooperated with each other to create a mound high enough for one of them to climb over the wall. When it reached the top and grabbed onto the wire, a visible jolt of electricity practically fried it to a crisp.
Arthur insisted that Olga, Kendra, Rex, Felix, and Pete make haste on their very important mission. Promising to tend to Ari as best he could, he waited until they were well out of sight before turning to Alice. With a frown on his face, he asked with concern, “What do you think, Alice? Do you think she’ll even make it to Hope?”The severe wrinkles on her face made it almost difficult to tell that the young woman’s brows were knit together as she looked down at Ari. “She’s in pretty bad shape. I thought that they were saving her life. It looks more like they were keeping her alive for some reason that didn’t require good health.”Arthur shuddered. “They were a deceiving bunch, wouldn’t you say? All that talk about peace and caring for mankind. I wonder why they really kicked out those rogues. From what I could see, they weren’t any worse than t
As agreed between Olga and Rex, they informed Kendra of their plans, but nothing was said to the others about them. The main reason was that it was unclear if they’d be successful and, since Alice and Pete weren’t behaving as cooperatively as they’d hoped, they didn’t want anyone doing or saying something to make things go awry.As she’d predicted, Olga replaced the batch of virus that was taken from her with a fresh supply while the guards overseeing her assumed that she was working on the antidote. She cautiously slipped several vials into her lab coat pocket before announcing that it was nearing lunch time and she was excessively hungry to the point that it was interfering with her work. She wanted to be returned to her cell so that she didn’t miss the lunch meal.Since she was required to change clothes before leaving the lab, she slipped behind the screen they’d provided to appease her modesty under the g
Kendra sucked in air as a vision of Queen Isabo appeared before her. The amazon queen was standing amongst a small group of aliens. It was Kendra’s first view of the aliens occupying inner earth. They looked exactly like the ones on the surface. She shuddered with repulsion as the memories of her time as their prisoner fluttered through her mind.Pushing the unsettling thoughts away as best as she could, she focused on the conversation that was taking place between the amazon queen and the alien who was clearly of status. They were speaking a language that was foreign to Kendra, but their tones and facial expressions led her to believe that their interaction was friendly. Her heart raced wildly with remembrance and trepidation as the rogue amazon leader, Minerva, walked up to them. Kendra recognized most of the rogues following her from her time in their camp. They stood a short distance away from their leader as they wai
By the time Arthur and Alice were thrust into the cell, the group had come up with a solution for their lack of privacy that gave them some semblance of comfort while taking care of personal needs. The women had seriously considered pointing out their dilemma and asking to be moved to a separate cell, but, then, thought better of it. Staying together would allow them the chance to put their wits to work as a unified group and come up with a means of escape. So, when nature called, they swallowed their pride and braced themselves to endure the humiliation as they made the announcement of their body’s need so that the others could stand with their backs turned toward the individual until the person announced that all was clear. The lack of consideration for their comfort and modesty made Kendra equate the amazons to aliens on the surface who treated humans like they were no better than animals.Several hours passed before Olga was yanked from the
