I gaped at him. "You what?" I gasped.

"I ruined her fucking life!" Alex's voice was a harsh whisper, his eyes blazing with a fierce intensity that made me step back. "I killed her boyfriend and left her in a wheelchair. The marriage arrangement is my way of making it right."

I stared at him. The words were like a punch to the gut, stealing the breath from my lungs. "Why didn't you tell me?"

Alex's expression was a mix of pain and anger. "Because it's not your fucking business," he snapped. "You're here to help me with the club, not to play detective in my personal life."

"But you can't marry her," I said, the words tumbling out before I could stop them. "Not if you don't love her."

He slammed his hand against the car. "It's not about love!" he roared. "It's about giving her what I took away!"

I swallowed hard, trying to digest the bitter truth. "So, you're sacrificing yourself to marry a woman you don't love just to save face?"
