Changing his Mind

Alpha Xander's POV

When I first figured out that an Omega was my mate I felt disgusted. I have always thought she was beautiful and if she wasn't an Omega I would have loved to have her as a mate. But if the elders and other alphas found out about her being my mate I would be forced to stop being an alpha and I would live the rest of my life as a rogue. I also thought rejecting her would be the easiest thing ever but right now I am staring down at her after her suicide attempts.

It broke my heart to see her in such pain. Could I have been wrong? Could I even accept her now that I rejected her? Could I keep her as my Omega? I sure would try. After lifting her off the ground, I took her to her little apartment next to mine in the packhouse.

I would let her get settled in before I visited with her again. For now, I will head back to my office to get some paperwork done. "Alpha?" My current beta Max said as I approached my office.

"Yes Max," I replied kindly. Max was my father's beta. Normally when an alpha steps down for his son could take over their beta also steps down allowing his first son to become beta. Max stayed until I had an understanding of being alpha.

"I was wondering how my daughter was settling into her new role?" Max said.

"She is my mate. I will keep her as my Omega." I replied with a smile. I wasn't sure how he would take the news.

"Oh. So she is our new Luna?" Max asked.

"No. She is still the Omega but all of the pups she has will be mine." I replied before I opened my door. I slammed the door. I wasn't in the mood to deal with an angry father. I had more problems. An Omega was my mate. Having Cassie as my mate wasn't all that horrible. When we were younger I had a small crush on her and would have been happy to have her as my mate. The issue is an Omega is always giving off the scent of her heat and she would have a hard time remaining faithful even if she wanted to. I couldn't want that to happen.

All of the males in the pack would want her. But I was already feeling myself falling for the beauty in the apartment next to mine. 'Johnny come to my office.' I said to my future beta through our mind link. I wait for three minutes for Johnny to come into my office.

"Johnny I want you to do two things for me. First I want you to put a strong lock on the door to my side apartment that only I have a key for then I want you to assign someone to put a door that goes from my bedroom to the bedroom of the apartment next to mine." I said. Johnny didn't ask any questions he just got right to work on the tasks I gave him.

As I sat waiting for Johnny to inform me that he had finished the tasks I gave him I felt my mind going over Cassie's flawless skin and how wonderful it would feel to run my finger over every inch of her. A knock on my door brought me back to reality. I could tell by the scent that it was Cassie but Johnny's scent was with her. He found her.

"Cassie told me she is your mate," Johnny said as he walked in with his arms around his sister's shoulder.

"That is true," I replied with my eyes on Cassie. Oh, great Moon Goddess she was the most gorgeous thing I have ever seen. There was no reason to lie to my future beta. "Even if I wanted her as more than an Omega no male would resist her. I don't want to share her."

"Then assign her a bodyguard like Martin. They are twins and you know he or I for that matter wouldn't be attracted to her sent." Johnny said after a moment of silence. When he spoke I realized I was still staring at her.

"Good you both will take turns in guarding her," I said causing them both to leave. I got back to work for a few hours. I was finally done for the day so I left my office to head back to my apartment. When I got to my apartment I still couldn't rest. I tried to fix myself something for dinner. After that, I took a cold shower hoping that would calm my thoughts but it only makes me want to feel her warmth against my body.

I didn't know if I could hide her being my mate but perhaps if I just kept her as an omega but I was the only one that could have her then maybe that wouldn't be against the laws. Would the elders accept that or would I have to let other men have her?

I knew I didn't want anyone else to touch her. I believe I am already falling in love with her. As I got up from my chair in my office I was prepared to head to my apartment for the night. I however didn't stay in my apartment. I was ready to be with my Omega. "Are you alright?" I said with true concern. I was concerned when I noticed she wasn't breathing.

"It hurts please stop," She said after exhaling.

"It will stop soon," I said having to try and make her pain go away I started to move.

"I Alpha Xander of Alpha of Night Creeper Pack accept you Cassie McIntire pack Omega as my mate," I said as I watched her fall asleep. I just laid there watching her sleep and admiring how beautiful she was. I knew she was all mine. I eventually got up to head back to my apartment. I sat down on the couch and watched reruns of House MD. I loved this show. From a young age, I dreamed of being a doctor. Not just any doctor but who discovered what diseases were affecting my patients.

That never happened because I was always destined to be the Alpha. I even went as far as begging my dad to let my younger brother Quintin become Alpha. Dad always refused because that was a role for the eldest son. The only way I would not be alpha anymore is when my own eldest son took over. If I died without an heir the pack beta would become alpha. While watching House MD I like to come up with my diagnostics. After the end of the episode, I decide it is time to take a shower and get some sleep. I have a huge meeting in the morning.

The next morning I was in a meeting with the most powerful Alpha in Russia. 'Alpha?' Cassie's voice popped in my head. I tried not to get angry with her. She didn't know I was in an important meeting.

'Yes, Omega.' I replied.

'First, why do you have to call me Omega? And second, what am I supposed to eat? Everything is empty.' Cassie asked.

'I will stop calling you Omega when you stop calling me Alpha. My name is Xander. Second, your twin should be ready to take you shopping. Stay close to him. You are mine and I don't share.' I said with authority. I cut the mind link off and continued with my meeting.

"Troubles in your pack?' Alpha Zane said with amusement in his voice.

"No I have a new Omega and I forgot to pack her fridge with food and she was bugging me about it. I don't like when my Omegas starve to death." I replied with a smile that said I wanted the subject dropped. "So I have been having problems with Alpha Leo. His borders have been being attacked by rogues and he has taken it upon himself to blame my pack for it." I said suddenly after staring Alpha Zane down. He may have been the most feared alpha in Russia but this was my pack.

"You need to teach these lesser alphas a lesson. Your father was feared. You are young and without a mate and you have no heir. Usually when an alpha steps down his son has a mate and an heir on the way or already born. You were forced to become alpha early because of your father's untimely death." Alpha Zane said. I knew he was right. But how would I get my neighboring packs to fear me? My mate was an Omega and I didn't know if they would accept our first son as the future Alpha of this pack. I knew my pack was loyal to me and would do as I said but Alpha Leo was not.

"The Omega is your's isn't she?" Beta Jonah said by his alpha's side.

"Yes. The Moon Goddess has found it funny to give me an Omega for a mate." I replied as I looked down. "I haven't accepted her as my mate but as my Omega."

"Doesn't matter. The elders won't argue with what the Moon Goddess wants. My mate was an Omega also and every Alpha in Russia knows it. As do the Elders. I will let you borrow my Shaman wolf. She is the one who got the Elders to accept Lia as my mate. She wasn't even an omega of my pack but an Italian pack." Alpha Zane said.

"If I want to take you up on that offer I will let you know. However, when I first discovered she was my mate I rejected her. Now if I wanted to accept her if it would even work." I replied. I did accept her while I mated her last night.

"It should work. If you mark her she will be yours. Besides the whole rejection thing does nothing but make the rejected want to die. You still have the mate bond it just tortures both people. You will have no desire for another mate and she will either end her life or suffer." Alpha Zane replied.

"I did mark her. Last night when I mated her." I said. I could tell that Cassie's father was becoming increasingly uncomfortable with the conversation.

"Beta Max is there a problem?" Beta Jonah said looking at Max.

"No. I am just not enjoying the idea of my daughter being the center of this conversation. Especially when it is about my Alpha mating her. Alpha I am glad you would like to have my daughter be your official mate but can that particular part of this conversation come to an end?" Max said as he shifted in his seat.

"Sorry." I said although I wasn't. She was my mate. If I wanted to mate her I should and I will. The meeting seemed to drag on. We finally got to talking about the treaty. I didn't really want to talk about Cassie with these men. Most Alphas will kill for an Omega. They don't care for the fact if the Omega is the mate of their packs Alpha. Lucky for Cassie she had three brothers that would protect her. As well as I would. Max and Cassie never truly got along. I think it has something to do with thinking she was going to spend her life in a cottage without any visitors from her family.

Perhaps it was easier for Max to keep her at a distance. He wouldn't have to feel so sad that he would one day never see her again. It isn't because her mother wasn't Max's mate because neither was her twin, Martin. Max was close to all his sons. The new treaty consisted of, if someone attacked one of our packs we would help each other. Eventually the meeting was over and Alpha Zane and Beta Jonah left to go back to Russia.
