After marrying my Alpha mate, I realized everything had been a sweet lie. I grew up in a werewolf orphanage, until three months ago, when my Alpha father suddenly found me and brought me home. At my welcome party, fate led me straight into the arms of my mate. I truly believed I was the luckiest girl in the world—until I found out I had a twin sister. She’s beautiful, adored, and dying. Turns out, everyone was kind to me just so I could have a child to save my twin sister’s life. Everyone loves her—not me. I was nothing more than her shadow. To protect my unborn baby from becoming a pawn, I ran. In my panic, I accidentally crossed into the territory of the most powerful pack. It was far too dangerous. Just as I was trying to escape, a stranger stepped out from the shadows and called me mate... My wolf instantly recognized him—he’s the Alpha of this pack. Fear and confusion flooded my heart. Moon Goddess, how could I possibly have two Alpha mates? They're nothing alike... One is cold and distant, the other is dominant and possessive, and now... I have to choose.

Today, I'm marrying the man of my dreams—Alpha Liam, the charming Alpha of the Snowcrest Pack.
I’m so happy, I can hardly believe this is real.
I grew up an orphan, raised in a werewolf orphanage. Just three months ago, I was still living a life full of bullying and abuse. I used to wake up before dawn every day to cook breakfast for everyone, clean, do laundry, and handle all the dirty, exhausting chores.
Mrs. Edith always had it out for me—she’d find any excuse to hit me with a whip.
Then everything changed. My birth parents—the Alpha and Luna of the Bloodthorn Pack—finally found me.
Has my nightmare finally come to an end?
They told me I was their daughter—the daughter of a powerful Alpha and Luna. They brought me back to the pack and told me this was my real home. They called me sweetheart and treated me like I was their most precious treasure.
To celebrate my return, they even threw a welcome party for me. I was surrounded by family and new pack members I had just met. The warmth I felt that night was unlike anything I’d ever experienced before.
I thought life couldn’t possibly get any better—
Until I saw him at the party.
Liam Thompson. The stunning Alpha of the Snowcrest Pack.
He was so handsome, so charming, with a quiet grace that drew everyone in.
The rich scent of woodsmoke and pine clung to him, lingering in the air and pulling me in like a dream.
I fell for him the moment our eyes met.
And then I heard my wolf, Melody, urging me to go to him.
‘He’s the one,’ she said, over and over again. ‘He’s our mate!’
I took a deep breath and walked toward him.
I’d never talked to a man like this before. Back at the orphanage, the people I saw the most were Mrs. Edith and the other kids.
This time, I tried my best to come up with things to talk about.
He was incredibly polite and charming. Every time those deep hazel eyes met mine, it felt like I was falling all over again.
I wanted to confess my feelings.
I know it sounds insane, but I was completely captivated by him. I wanted to be with him every second of every day.
Melody, my wolf, was practically bouncing in my head from excitement—and honestly, I was just as thrilled.
What if he rejected me...?
No—I didn’t have time to worry about that.
After we chatted for a while, I started thinking about how to tell him. But before I could say a word, he suddenly stepped closer.
Liam proposed to me.
I was completely stunned.
Moon Goddess, that had to be the happiest night of my life.

“Cora Montague, daughter of the Alpha of the Bloodthorn Pack,” the officiant asked, snapping me out of my thoughts,
“Will you accept the Moon Goddess’s blessing and marry Liam Thompson, the Alpha of the Snowcrest Pack?”
This is it. The moment I’ve been dreaming about!
“I–I do,” I stammer out quickly. Ugh, I was so nervous.
“Alpha Liam, will you accept the Moon Goddess's blessing and marry Cora Montague?” the officiant asked, still smiling warmly.
Everyone was waiting for Liam’s answer.
So was I. Once he said it, the ceremony would be complete. And then the reception would begin.
I looked at Liam and noticed his eyes seemed to be staring off into the distance.
Was he hesitating? No. No way.
Liam loves me—I know he does. Why else would he propose to me?
It’s just my nerves. That’s all.
To be honest, this wasn’t the first time I found myself wondering whether Liam truly loved me.
It’s not him—it’s me.
I guess... I still carry that old fear with me. The orphaned girl who never really felt wanted. That constant ache of insecurity.
Liam treats me well—everyone says so. But sometimes... I don’t know. He just feels a little distant.
When I brought it up to my mom, she told me I was overthinking it. That I was too sensitive.
So I buried those doubts and threw myself into planning the wedding. And whenever I brought ideas to Liam, his answer was always, “Whatever you want,” or “It’s up to you.” Everyone thought it was sweet—that he respected me so much.
But to me, it felt like... maybe none of it really mattered to him.
I told myself he was just exhausted from running his pack. As his soon-to-be Luna, I felt it was my responsibility to take on more, so I ended up planning the whole wedding by myself.
And up until now, everything had been perfect.
But Liam…
I could feel the tears threatening to rise.
Why hasn’t he said anything yet?
The banquet hall was completely silent. Every eye was on him.
“I do,” Liam finally said, his voice clear and steady.
The room erupted in applause around us.
I let out a breath I didn’t realize I’d been holding.
Relief flooded through me.
Once again, I strain to catch his eye, but his gaze slips over me like I’m invisible.
Liam places both his hands on my waist and pulls me towards him. My billowing skirt swishes around my hips as my eyes flutter shut. His lips press against mine in a sweet but short-lived kiss, and it’s nice, of course, but I can feel myself yearning for more.
After a full day of dancing, singing, toasts, and joyful celebration, the afterparty finally came to an end as the moon rose high in the sky.
Exhausted, I made my way back to the bedroom Liam and I shared.
Kicking off my ache-inducing heels, I collapsed onto a loveseat. I plan on taking a shower before retiring for the night, but before I could even move, Liam suddenly rushes into the room.
“Liam?” I said in surprise when I saw him. “I thought you were with your frien—”
Before I could finish, Liam’s warm lips found mine. I caught the faint scent of alcohol on his breath, mixed with that addictive pine scent that always drove me wild. His heated hands danced over my bare skin, and in a heartbeat, my clothes were torn away…
I had never seen Liam like this.
For as long as I’d known him, he’d always been polite and reserved—maybe even a little distant. But now, I could feel it clearly: the fire of desire was consuming us both.
He wants me.
I gasp and moan as he slips his tongue into my mouth, unable to resist his dominance.
He pushes me down onto the loveseat, body hovering above mine. I can feel him grinding against me, and it feels better than anything I’ve ever felt before.
The intoxicating press of his lips has me picturing the most wicked things, so much so that it’s a well-needed relief when Liam pushes back my skirt and slips my panties off.
“Liam,” I moan as his fingers, unrelenting, brush against the most sensitive places. “Liam, please, I need you…”
He undresses frantically and climbs back on top of me. I look up at him, needy and desperate, chest panting heavily.
“Please, Liam, fuck me,” I beg.
Wordlessly, Liam grabs my hips as he begins to thrust into me.
I can feel the heat building up within me with every thrust. There’s a magic to the way he moves, to the way he fucks me. Every time he snaps his hips somehow feels better than the time before, leaving me a gasping and moaning mess beneath him.
I grab his back, nails raking down his skin, and pull him as close to me as I possibly can.
“Liam!” I shout as I cling to him, calling his name, craving in response. I can feel him reach his climax. “Fuck, Liam, I–I love you.”
With a groan, he pulls out of me and collapses on top of me.
For a moment, as I stare up at the ceiling, dress bunched up around my hips, I don’t think he’s going to say anything at all.
But then I hear his soft voice start to murmur, “I love you, Iris.”
Iris?
I can feel my heart plummet in my chest.
Who… who’s Iris?Cora's POVJust as I was nearly scared to death by this voice, a tall, handsome stranger slowly emerged from the darkness. This man was strikingly beautiful, with sharp cheekbones, messy hair, and muscles that rippled beneath his clothes. But what caught my attention more than anything was what he had just said. “I’ve been waiting for you, mate.” His words echo through my mind as my heart races. I must have misheard him, right? My mate is Liam. My husband is Liam. I know this to be true, because the agony of my mate bond with Liam combined with the heartbreak of his betrayal is damn near tearing me apart. So why is this stranger calling me his mate? After all, there’s no way I could have two mates. Right? Has something like this ever happened before, Moon Goddess?“Might I ask what you’re doing trespassing on my territory?” The man’s voice is light, tone flippant and almost playful, but I can see the warning glinting just behind his eyes. I can tell just by the way he carri
Cora's POVA few days later, Liam and my parents joined me for my first baby doctor appointment–not to support me, of course, but to make sure everything is perfect for Iris’ cure. I have to admit, ever since I uncovered the truth, there’s been this strange, stifling tension between us, and no one knows how to break it.“We should have a baby shower!” Iris's excited voice echoed in the obstetrician's office. She was the only one unaffected by the tension in the room, and I guess that’s because she knew they all loved her so much.“Of course we should!” Liam agrees indulgently, shooting Iris a warm smile even as it’s my baby’s silhouette glowing on the ultrasound screen. “That’s a wonderful idea, Iris,” my mother beams at her. I grit my teeth as the cool gel slides across my exposed stomach. No one has bothered to even ask my opinion on the matter, of course. Why would they? I’m just the one who’s pregnant, after all! It’s fine. To ensure a smooth escape, I’ll have to play along
Cora's POVAs I wake up slowly, blinking clearly under the harsh hospital lighting, the first thing I see is my parents and Liam stepping towards me. I groan and sit up straight. My hip hurts where I must have landed and bruised it in my fall. I’m lying in a hospital bed, soft blankets piled around me, with an IV drip hooked up to my arm. I look into Liam’s eyes, and for just a second I’m relieved to have him here beside me, but then I remember everything that just transpired between us and I can feel my heart hardening all over again. “Are you feeling unwell?” Liam asks, brow furrowed. For a moment–just a moment, a single foolish chink in my armour–I wonder if deep down everyone cares about me after all. But a second later, Liam’s cold voice shatters that hope. “How could you not even know that you’re pregnant?” Liam spits, eyes flashing angrily. “From how on, you’re not doing anything on your own. You’re not going anywhere until you give birth to the child!” I’m still rather
Cora's POVAs I stare at the mirror image of myself lying in the bed before me, I’m frozen still, utterly shocked by the scene playing out in front of me. Everyone in the room had clearly noticed my unexpected arrival.Liam stops feeding the girl as suddenly cranes his head to look at me. The look of sweet affection he’d had while feeding the girl chills to his usual distant expression as he focuses on me. Why?Why was my husband caring for this girl with such gentle affection? Why were my parents standing by her side, looking after her with so much concern? It’s as though the girl lying in the hospital bed is the real me, the one who’s lived this wonderful life all along. The girl who had my parent’s love, my husband’s care, while I’m nothing but this intruder barging in where I don’t belong. This is the girl who’s living the life I want. I’m just a nobody. My parents and Liam look absolutely stunned by my sudden appearance, gazes shifting back and forth like they’re hiding a se
Cora's POVJust as my mind begins to flood with doubt, a wave of dizziness washes over me. I gasped for air, feeling more lightheaded than I had ever felt before. I stumbled toward the loveseat and sat down, doing my best to steady my nerves. But then, a wave of nausea hit me. I felt like I was going to throw up.Though my limbs feel awkward and numb and barely able to be moved, I manage to rush over the bathroom. Just as I flipped the toilet seat open, I vomited uncontrollably.I groan, clutching the sides of the toilet bowl and shuddering heavily. Another surge of nausea hits me again, causing me to throw up once more. Though my mood was in ruins, the intensity of my physical reaction felt... odd. This vomiting didn’t feel like something brought on by emotional distress; it was more like something inside me was taking control of my stomach. After what seemed like an eternity, when the wave of nausea finally started to pass, I shakily stood up and stumbled toward the sink. The tast
Cora's POVLiam and I have been married for two months now, and I still can’t stop thinking about the name he’d whispered on our wedding night. Who exactly is Iris? We’re sitting at the breakfast table now, a semi-awkward silence stretching between us. Ever since we got married, Liam’s been distant.Sure, we still... sleep together, and he does indulge some of my requests, but most of the time, I feel like a ghost in this house—like he doesn’t really see me.I can’t help but think this has something to do with Iris. There’s so much swirling in my head, but today, I know I have to talk to Liam. Really talk to him.He hasn’t said anything to me except for a passing “morning” as I sat down to eat. As I fill my plate, I do my best to muster up my courage and look Liam dead in the eyes, pulling his attention towards me. “Who’s Iris?” I ask bluntly. Liam freezes, gaze breaking away from mine in that distant way that kept sending me spiraling. “You must’ve misheard me, Cora. I don’t k
