GUNNAR

As the Alpha King, I'd seen and experienced countless things in my life, but never had I encountered someone like Aqua. From the first moment I woke up to see her sleeping beside me, a thought crossed my mind: she was either incredibly stupid or had a death wish.

It turned out Aqua was the kind of simpleton who easily believed what people told her. And I hated it. She would be dead by now if it weren't for an unexpected complication.

The damn submissive wolf was my second-chance mate.

I had found out about it early in the morning when I was choking her to death. The familiar white-hot pain in my chest when I was hurting someone connected to my soul was enough to make me pass out but I held onto my consciousness stubbornly. I was too pissed about her little trick to care about our bond, neither could I tolerate the fact that the moon goddess would tie me down to such a weakling.

But right now, I had no choice. As the Alpha King and her second-chance mate, I had to find a way to get her out of this mess because our life force was connected. And that meant that if Aqua died, then I would perish as well.

As I finally arrived at the underground prison where she was kept, I opened the heavy iron door open, the sound creaking through the stone corridors. Although I was blind, most people wondered how I was able to move normally. But all of that was possible through the psychic connection I shared with the wolves that followed me, granting me their vision as I carried out my daily task. They had been my allies and my friends since childhood, and they were the only ones I trusted without reservations.

The dim light from the moon cast long shadows, but I could see her huddled figure in the corner of the cold, dark cell. Aqua sensed my presence first, and looked up, her eyes widening with surprise and fear.

She whispered, “A-Are you here to kill me?”

I remained silent, examining her figure before I shortened the distance between us. Her face was scrunched with pain and I guessed it had something to do with the headaches she was experiencing since I muted the mating bond. She wasn't the only one suffering, but I saw it as a small price to pay to get what I wanted.

“I-I swear I didn't do it on purpose,” her voice trembled as she backed away, her retreat halted by the cold stone wall. “Leon tricked me into sleeping with you. You have to believe me-”

“I know,” I interrupted impatiently.

“What?” Her eyes widened in confusion. “Then why am I here?”

“Because you have no evidence to prove your innocence,” I replied calmly. “But I can help you if you give me what I want.”

The poor girl couldn't look more lost than before. “B-But what do you want from me?”

“I need you to break the second-chance bond between us,” I told her, my voice firm and intimidating. “This situation should have never happened since you haven't even found your true mate yet. So I need you to help me break it, and in exchange, I will save your life.”

Silence enveloped the room after a few seconds. I could tell that she was processing my words carefully, but I prayed that her thoughts wouldn't wander too much. Aqua's innocence was something I could use for my intentions and I would hate for anything to ruin my plans.

“But how do I break this bond?” She kept her eyes lowered, a usual sign of her submissive nature.

I replied, “Well, we can't break this bond until your wolf rank reaches dominant level. As you know, wolf energy can only be passed between mates through sex. So you and I are going to have lots of it-”

“Wait, I didn't know that!” Panic set in her voice as she walked closer towards the iron bars. “Alpha Keegan would never allow me to do something like this. What if I get pregnant?”

“I’ll take care of that for you,” I said, softening my tone since I suddenly remembered that Aqua had been a virgin until she met me. “But as far as I know, Alpha Keegan doesn't have any control over who the submissive wolves choose to mate, so why did you say he would object to this?”

I forced myself to move on. “So, what do you say, Aqua? Do you agree with my proposal?”

Aqua slowly nodded. “Yes, I agree.”

Relief flooded my body at her words. I turned around and started walking away, my mind already racing with plans about the situation at hand.

“Can I ask you a question?” Her voice traveled through the stony corridors.

I halted in my steps. “What is it?”

“Why don't you want us to be mates?” She glanced at me with her pretty blue eyes, then lowered her gaze again. “Is it because I'm a third-tier submissive wolf, or do you think I'm not pretty-”

I cut her off. “It’s because I don't think you are a good person.”

“What?”

“You heard me,” I scowled, my voice icy with disgust. “According to the laws of the lands, no one is permitted to flirt or have sex with a mated wolf, yet you were having an affair with Leon. Were you that desperate to climb up the ladder and elevate your status?”

Her voice trembled with anger as she screamed, “You don't know anything! Leon said he didn't love Juliette!”

I released a mirthless laugh. “And you believed him?”

Although she didn't respond, I heard a faint whimper escape her lips. My heart squeezed in pain, making me even angrier. “There’s a reason why the moon goddess created a mate for every wolf; they are meant to be like a missing puzzle piece to our incomplete souls. But I can see the moon goddess made a mistake in our case because there's no way you can be mine.”

My heart pounded in my chest, matching the rhythm of my frantic footsteps.Branches slapped against my face and arms, but I couldn’t afford to slow down. The hyenas’ eyes gleamed in the darkness, their hunger palpable. I stumbled over a root, barely catching myself before I fell. A low growl reverberated near me. Oh no. AQUAWhen I finally jerked back into consciousness, the first thought that ran through my brain was the need to find my mate. Again. Gunnar's head snapped in my direction at the sound of my soft gasp, but he didn't move. “You're finally awake, huh?”I nodded slowly, shifting my gaze to the bonfire near him. The smell of burning wood and the crackling of the fire drifting into my nose, pulling me closer to its warmth. Trees towered above, their branches swaying gently in the night breeze, casting eerie shadows in the flickering firelight. When I moved, a sharp pain shot up my side, causing me to wince. “That's good, because we have to talk.” Gunnar threw the last piece of wood in his hands before rising to his feet. His movement allowed me to spot a wolf behind him, resting on its haunches with its front legs straight. “Tell me what you did, Aqua,” he demanded. My heart skipped a beat at the sharpness in his tone. As a submissive wolf, I had mastered all the signs most dominant wolv

GUNNARWhere the hell was she now?I kept staring at the direction my second-chance mate had gone after the little argument we had. Although I had tried my best to restrain my anger back then, her hurt and pain still buzzed down the mate bond like a white noise. She had no idea how damn lucky that my wolves were near when the hyenas attacked us. The effects of the drug were barely fading now, but if they hadn't come to our aid, we would have surely died back there. That's why I snapped at her. She might have been fortunate to survive up to now, but with this naive character, she'd be chewed up and spat out in my pack in a matter of seconds. “Damn it, she's taking too long, Odin.” I said to the gray wolf by my side. From what I could sense from the mate bond, she certainly wasn't in any form of danger, so why hadn't she returned yet? Unless...I shot to my feet, feeling my blood boil in anger as I considered the possibility of her running away. Her scent still lingered in the air, b

The bright half-moon hung high in the sky, guiding our path as we returned to the bonefire. At that moment, Odin, who was guarding the place, quietly slipped into the darkness of the forest. After a few more steps, Aqua finally stopped in her tracks. My breath caught when I turned to her. Her face was illuminated under the moonlight, highlighting her wavy black hair cascading down her back and hourglass figure. And there it was—that sexy, innocent look she had. Oh, heavens. She had no idea what she did to me when she looked at me with those mesmerizing ocean-blue eyes. It made my wolf claw through my skin, fighting for control to claim its mate.Aqua glanced hesitantly around our surroundings and asked me. “Are you sure you want us to have sex here?”“Yes, I do.” I buried my hands into my jeans pocket to keep myself from lunging at her. “Our wolves like it when th

GUNNARAqua's chest heaved in post-orgasmic bliss as she stared at me with her big, round eyes. I could tell that my words had scared the shit out of her, but my wolf, who was now in control, didn't really give a shit about her emotional state. Still, I forced myself to ask her, “Are you alright?”Sweat clung to her beautiful skin as she nodded, still catching her breath. “Yeah, that was... amazing.”My wolf growled in male pride, clearly pleased by her words. Her feminine scent lingered in the air, calming the rough edges of its desires, but I knew it craved more. “Good.” My eyes locked onto hers with an intense gaze as I leaned in, my face hovering above hers. “Then you should reward me with a kiss.”The air between us crackled with tension and desire as I parted my lips invitingly. My cock twitched in my jeans when Aqua's tongue wetted her lips before she leaned in to kiss me. Her mouth moved against mine in a slow, sensual dance, trying to mimic the way I kissed her before. AQUAI woke up the next day, the morning light filtering through the trees above. Oh. My. Goodness. When Gunnar had talked about the mating ritual, I didn't think it would be this intense, this raw and primal. We woke up several times through the night, his mouth on my...vagina, his.. penis in my vagina so many times. Heat crept up my cheeks when I thought about it. Gunnar had been so rough with me, yet I liked it. Something about the way he dominated me pleased my wolf and me so much until I thought I would die from pleasure. The sounds of birds chirping in the air snapped me out of my wanton thoughts. I tried to stand up when I felt a pair of strong arms restricted my movement. So I turned around and saw him. AQUAWhen we finally reached the theater, River asked me to go to the entrance first before he steered the car towards the parking lot. After his failed attempt to kiss me, River became more subdued and quiet, only responding to my questions when asked. Eventually, his stunted silence also affected my mood, causing me to fall silent. As I stood at the large entrance of the theater, my mind wandered to Gunnar once again. I wondered what he was doing and where he had suddenly gone, but obviously, he didn't deem it important to share any information with me. My wolf yearned to be her stubborn mate, but after hearing that his desire was to get rid of me, I suppressed myself so I wouldn't be a burden. Gunnar was someone with great responsibilities, so I didn't dare delude myself about him caring about me. Still, it would have been nice if he had told me about where he was going. As I was engrossed with my thoughts, I didn't notice when River appeared by my side. He bumped his shoulders

  • Capturing The Alpha King's Heart.    Taking Her To The Movies.

AQUA A week later...I walked to the full-length mirror with two dresses, each one in my hand. I compared each one against my skin, contemplating what I should wear this evening. Because tonight was finally the night River would be taking me out to the movies. A swirl of anxiety and anticipation churned in my stomach. I sighed, letting both dresses fall onto the bed in a soft heap. My eyes drifted toward the other outfit I had laid out. Although I had Gunnar's card to cover all my expenses, it didn't feel right for me to use when I was going out with another man. Fortunately, I still had some savings I kept before I left the Wind Ridge Pack. The door creaked open without warning.Fawn stepped inside, her small hand gripping the doorknob while the other leaned heavily on her walking cane. She paused at the doorway, and an uneasy flicker crossed my face as I moved toward her."Fawn," I murmured gently, announcing myself before reaching out to her. "What are you doing here? I though

GUNNARThe following days passed, each one worse than the previous, according to my wolf. He was in a terrible mood after Aqua's rejection, which also affected my mood too. To cope, I focused all my attention on the affairs of the pack. On the first day, I concentrated on strengthening security by conducting intensive training for the sentries guarding our territory. On the second day, I decided to watch over the young wolves in the pack and supervise their activities. On the third day, the elders summoned me. "I think you should go on a retreat," Nathaniel, my head elder, suggested after a morning pack run. "It will do you and your wolf good to spend some time alone. Just leave the work to your Beta for now." I struggled not to smile at his crafty suggestion, probably out of a desire to spare him some embarrassment. Leaning back in my seat, I replied, "I take it that your son has not yet told you the truth." "What do you mean?" Nathaniel questioned, his brow furrowing in confus

He called out to me, his voice laced with confusion, but I paid him no attention as I pursued my mate's daughter. For a blind kid, she was remarkably swift and agile, maneuvering through the forest with ease. It was clear that she had the advantage of knowing the landscape, but her speed was still inferior to mine. I eventually caught up to her and blocked her path. Fawn instantly skidded to a stop when she sensed my sudden arrival. "We need to talk," I panted, my chest rising and falling rapidly. Looking at Fawn, I quickly straightened my back upon noticing how composed she appeared after such a long run. I guessed she was right about calling me weak because my lungs felt like they were on fire, despite the short chase.Fawn folded her arms defiantly and replied, "We have nothing to talk about." "What you saw is nothing," I explained, desperation creeping into m

AQUAWhen River offered to take me somewhere, the last place I expected him to go was to the forest behind my mate's house. My feet refused to move the moment we reached the tree line, refusing to move any farther. River stopped a few steps ahead, turning back to me, a flicker of concern softening his features.“Is something wrong?” he asked, concern glazing over his features. I gulped nervously, wondering what I should say. Gunnar had repeatedly warned me not to expose Fawn's identity, and the last thing I wanted was to get on his bad side today. I didn't know if his daughter left the house often, but I could only imagine that she would sneak out at least once in a while to avoid suffocating in there.I lowered my gaze, focusing on the steady ground underneath my feet. “C-Can I ask what we’re doing here?” I stammered. “T-This is the Alpha King’s property… y-you know that, right?”River nodded casually. “Yeah, I know.” His soft chuckle faded when he noticed how tense I was. AQUAI woke up feeling refreshed, but the memories that lingered in my mind left me feeling depressed and sad. My wolf kept scolding me for rejecting Gunnar the night before, but I refused to listen until morning. She was right. What was I thinking, rejecting the Alpha King in such a crude manner? What if he got angry and decided to kill me?With that thought in mind, I locked the door and stayed indoors, knowing that no one would check on me anyway. By noon, I decided to sneak out of the house and visit the pack healer. When River saw me, his face lit up with pleasant surprise. "Aqua, what are you doing here?" He scanned me from head to toe, as if making sure I was okay, then removed his gloves and tossed them into the trash can."I just wanted to see you for a bit," I admitted, scratching the back of my neck awkwardly. This had seemed like a good idea when I formulated my plan, but now that I was here, I felt uncertain. I came here because of the comforting aura he possessed to calm

At this rate, she was going to get all of us in trouble, so I needed to stop her before she did something stupid like getting cozy with my pack healer. My wolf had been on edge since we arrived in the pack, largely because we hadn't initiated any physical contact with our mate. Deep down, I almost wished we hadn't left that damn forest because everything between us had felt good back there. Now, it felt like we were back to square one. In fact, we were even worse than strangers, and I hated it. She had her issues, and I had mine. In the past, I hadn't been willing to work on our relationship, but now I was ready to try if it meant getting my life back in order.I didn't notice she had returned to the house until I reached the stairs with Fawn.
