The room was dimly lit, with sunlight streaming through partially closed blinds. Governor Dennis leaned back in his plastic chair provided to him by Erickson soldiers in camp, the weight of his power reflected in his composed demeanor. His finger hovered over the red button on his phone as he finished his call. His voice had been calm but firm, every word dripping with authority.

“Handle it. No loose ends,” he said before ending the call abruptly. He placed the phone on his desk, a slight smirk playing on his lips.

In a very different setting, a man sat on the edge of his rickety bed, the air heavy with the smell of stale cigarettes and sweat. His name was Kola, one of Dennis’s trusted enforcers. Kola exhaled deeply, staring at his phone for a moment before dialing another number.

“Boys, na time. Meet for base sharp sharp,” he barked in pidgin, his voice commanding and without room for argument.

“Boss, we dey come,” a voice on the other end replied before the line went dead.

The room was dimly lit, with a single chandelier casting an amber glow over the mahogany table at its center. Around the table sat six men, their faces illuminated by the warm light and the occasional glint of whiskey glasses. They laughed and cheered, basking in the success of their latest endeavor. At the head of the table sat their leader, a man simply known as "The Boss." His well-tailored suit was a stark contrast to the rugged appearance of his subordinates. He raised a glass, silencing the room with a single gesture.“To us,” The Boss began, his voice steady and filled with pride. “To the masterminds of this beautiful game. We’ve outsmarted them all—the politicians, the scientists, the entire system. They think they hold the cards, but it’s us holding the joker. Soon, we’ll be swimming in billions, and they’ll still be begging us for the cure.”The men erupted in applause, their laughter echoing off the concrete walls. Bottles clinked as they poured themselves another round of

  • Campus of the undead   The standoff contd

The morning sun barely penetrated the haze of dust and decay that hung over the desolate campus. Shadows danced across the rubble-strewn ground as the tension in the air thickened. The group—Joseph, Luke, Mira, Collins, Jeff, Favour, and Sarah—stood trapped in a suffocating circle of fear. Akin stood at the center, flanked by his sentient zombie and a horde of undead, their vacant, lifeless eyes trained on their prey. Jeff leaned against Mira, his injured leg barely supporting his weight. Favour clutched his tattered book as though it were a lifeline, while Sarah clung to Mira’s arm, her wide eyes brimming with tears. Even Collins, usually the picture of composure, seemed shaken, his fists clenched tightly at his sides. Akin, however, was in his element. His bloodshot eyes glinted with malice, and a smirk played on his lips. He paced before them like a lion before its caged meal, savoring every moment of their helplessness. “You know,” Akin began, his voice smooth and laced with moc

  • Campus of the undead   The escape

Luke’s screams ripped through the air outside the dilapidated campus canteen, raw and primal, sending shivers down everyone’s spine. His body writhed violently on the cracked tiles, veins bulging as the serum coursed through him, threatening to either transform him or tear him apart. His convulsions kicked up the remnants of discarded wrappers and dust, a grim reminder of the chaos all around. The group stood frozen, their expressions a mix of horror and helplessness as they watched one of their own become something unrecognizable. Akin, standing nearby with his arms crossed, looked on with a twisted grin. He tilted his head, almost amused, as though Luke’s suffering was nothing more than a fascinating science project. “Ah, look at him,” Akin said, his voice thick with mockery. “My little experiment. I wonder how long he’ll last before—” A deafening gunshot cut him off mid-sentence. Akin’s smug smile faltered, replaced with shock as a red hole blossomed in his forehead. He staggere

The damp, decrepit warehouse reeked of sweat, blood, and desperation. The air was heavy with fear, the kind that clung to the skin and settled deep in the chest. Five captives were crammed into a corner, their wrists bound with ropes that bit into their flesh. Each one wore an expression of utter defeat, their bodies sagging against the cold concrete wall. A woman sat among them, cradling her infant to her chest, her face streaked with tears as she rocked back and forth, murmuring broken prayers.Across the room, Kola and his gang lounged on broken crates and rusted chairs. The flickering light bulb overhead cast shadows across their faces, making them appear even more menacing. Kola sat at the center of the group, a cigarette dangling from his lips as he leaned back with an air of authority. His sharp features were etched with cruelty, his eyes cold and unfeeling as he listened to his men talk and laugh about their spoils.“Man, this place is rank,” Chidi said, wrinkling his nose as

The morning sun rose, its pale rays cutting through the heavy fog that clung to the ruined campus. The library was quiet, save for the occasional groan of zombies shambling in the distance. Inside, the group huddled near the exit, their faces pale and drawn. It had been hours since Justin’s sacrifice, but the weight of his absence lingered heavily in the air.“We can’t stay here,” Joseph said, breaking the silence. His voice was low but firm, his eyes scanning the others. “The longer we wait, the more of them will gather. We have to move now.”Luke leaned against a desk, his body trembling. The serum injected into him had left him weak, his vision swimming as he struggled to stay upright. Mira stayed close, holding his arm to steady him.“You sure you’re okay?” she asked, her voice soft but laced with worry.Luke nodded weakly. “I’ll manage.”Favour sat nearby, his eyes red and swollen. He hadn’t spoken much since Justin’s sacrifice, the grief etched deeply into his face. Collins stoo

The group stood frozen, staring at the campus gates only a few hundred meters away. Hope shimmered just beyond the iron bars, where the faint outline of the army encampment could be seen in the distance. Safety was so close they could almost taste it, but a horde of zombies clogged the path, their grotesque forms swaying in a macabre dance of hunger and decay. “There’s too many,” Mira whispered, gripping Sarah’s hand tightly. Her voice was barely audible, but it carried the weight of their despair. Joseph clenched his jaw, scanning the scene. He was down to one bullet and no good options. “We’ll have to fight through,” he said, his voice grim. “Fight through?” Favour hissed, his eyes wide with panic. “There’s at least twenty of them out there! We’ll never make it!” Collins adjusted his grip on the metal pipe he’d been using as a weapon, his face set in a mask of determination. “We don’t have a choice. Either we push through, or we die here.” Luke, still weak and disoriented from t

The tension in the air was palpable as Mira and Joseph were escorted into the command tent. The fabric walls fluttered slightly in the wind, but inside, the heat was stifling. Major Erickson stood at the center, his back straight and his face etched with stern authority. Beside him sat Governor Dennis, his hands clasped on the makeshift table, his expression unreadable. Mira hesitated as they entered, her body stiff with lingering fear. Joseph placed a steadying hand on her shoulder, guiding her forward. “Dad,” Mira whispered, her voice trembling as she looked at Major Erickson. Erickson’s stern expression softened slightly at the sight of his children, but the circumstances did not allow for an open display of affection. “Mira, Joseph,” he said, his voice low but steady. “You’ve been through hell.” “More than hell,” Joseph replied, his tone sharp. He glanced at Governor Dennis, his eyes narrowing. “And we have a lot to say about why we’re in this mess in the first place.” --- M

The warm evening sun dipped below the horizon, casting a soft orange glow over Lagos. Luke and Mira walked hand-in-hand along the quiet streets, the sound of their footsteps a comforting rhythm beneath the bustling city noises. It had been three months since they had been released from the detention facility, and things had finally started to feel normal again—or as normal as life could be after everything they had endured.Luke couldn’t remember the last time he felt this carefree. For the first time in a long time, there were no heavy burdens weighing on his shoulders. No government scrutiny, no terrifying fear of what the future might hold. He was simply Luke again, the young man who had fought to survive but also the man who could finally enjoy life.Mira glanced at him, a soft smile tugging at her lips. “You seem… different. In a good way.”Luke returned the smile, his eyes lighting up as he squeezed her hand. “I feel different. I feel like I’ve finally been given a second chance

  • Campus of the undead   The Cost of Freedom

The weeks had dragged on, the sterile walls of the detention facility becoming an oppressive reminder of the world that had come to fear Luke and Bayo. They were no longer the heroes who fought to survive—they were the weapons that had once been their salvation, now seen as potential threats to the fragile stability that the world clung to. The military’s tight control over them, the constant surveillance, and the relentless scrutiny from every corner of the globe had taken its toll. Luke’s mind was weary, and his body reflected the strain. Every day felt like an eternity spent in a cage, the lingering uncertainty about what the world would think of him once he was released only fueling the exhaustion that gripped his every waking moment. It wasn’t just about the physical confinement anymore—it was about how he would be perceived by a world that had watched him fight, watched him kill, and watched him struggle. His parents—Laura and Samuel—visited regularly. Their support was unwav

The chaos at Eko State University was broadcast worldwide, its devastation felt far beyond the borders of Lagos. In a quiet mansion in Ikoyi, far from the inferno, Morenike paced her living room. Her eyes were glued to the TV, where Rachel’s live coverage replayed the horrors of the past hours. Her son, Akin, was on every channel—a vision of destruction and fury. Clips showed him commanding infected hordes, fighting soldiers, and causing untold devastation. The media painted him as a symbol of the apocalypse, a man consumed by the infection yet capable of terrifying control. “No… no, this can’t be my Akin,” Morenike whispered, her voice breaking. She gripped the back of the nearest chair, her knuckles turning white. Her maid, Titi, approached cautiously. “Madam, maybe it’s best to rest. This news… it’s too much.” Morenike shook her head vehemently. “That’s my son. My boy. What have they done to him?” Her knees buckled, and she sank into the chair, tears streaming down her face.

The rhythmic hum of the helicopter's blades cut through the eerie silence of the Eko State University (EKSU) campus. Below, a scene of chaos was coming to a tense standstill. Bayo’s figure, barely distinguishable in the dim light, moved among the lifeless, shambling zombies. His exhausted yet determined strides guided them toward their designated points, keeping the horde tightly controlled. Soldiers and survivors huddled at a safe distance, their wide eyes shifting uneasily between the horde and the sky. Major Erickson stood near the frontline, his steely demeanor masking the weight of the decision he was about to execute. Luke stood beside Mira, her fingers laced tightly through his. They both watched Bayo with a mix of admiration and dread. Nearby, Luke’s parents remained quiet, their expressions frozen in the same disbelief mirrored by every other face. Erickson raised his radio. His voice carried a calm authority that belied the tension in the air. “Echo Base, this is Major Er

Soldiers and survivors stared at the undead in stunned silence, unsure whether to rejoice or remain on guard. The tension hung heavy in the air, a mix of relief and dread. Bayo knelt on the ground, his chest heaving as he struggled to catch his breath. He wiped sweat from his brow, his connection to the horde severed but still leaving a faint, nagging hum in his mind. He glanced around, his gaze meeting Luke’s. “You good?” Luke asked, stepping closer. Bayo nodded, though his exhaustion was evident. “Yeah... for now.” Major Erickson approached the group, his face set in a grim expression. He surveyed the scene, his sharp eyes taking in the scattered corpses of zombies and the soldiers who had fallen in battle. His radio crackled to life, breaking the uneasy silence. “This is Echo Base. Major, your package h

Every breath he took felt heavier, like something primal was clawing at the edges of his mind. His vision blurred momentarily as he stumbled back, clutching his head. “Bayo, what’s wrong?” Luke’s voice barely reached him over the noise. “I… I don’t know,” Bayo murmured, his words barely audible. The moment Akin had stepped forward, the air had shifted. There was a palpable charge, a sense of inevitability. And for Bayo, something else entirely—a flood of raw emotion that wasn’t his. At first, it was faint, like static on a weak signal. But now it roared through him with a ferocity he couldn’t ignore. He gritted his teeth, his head pounding with every passing second. Rage. Bayo leaned against the wall, sharpening his machete, his eyes scanning their surroundings with the same sharpness as his blade. “You feel it, don’t you?” Luke said suddenly, breaking the silence. Bayo looked up, his expression unreadable. “Yeah. Something’s off.” Luke clenched his fists. His enhanced senses were screaming at him. Ever since the attack started, there had been an inexplicable pull—like a thread connecting him to Akin. It was faint at first, but now it was undeniable, like a beacon drawing him toward the source of the chaos. “What do you think he’s up to?” Luke asked, his voice low. Bayo sighed, sheathing his machete he had picked from a fallen soldier. “You know what he’s capable of, Luke. He’s not the same person you knew
