I tried looking around to see if there was anyone still sane enough to help us, and that was when I saw my father trying to fight off three guards with Nathaniel’s father as his mother held mine in her arms on the floor. I saw the blood on her dress, but I tried to convince myself that it wasn’t hers. I lied to myself as I called out to them. Nathaniel’s father turned to us, and told us to run, but a guard saw this as an opening and ran him through.
Nathaniel yelled out to him, and I was paralyzed in fear. He started to run towards him, cutting down any and every guard that tried to attack him until there were too many of them. My father was the only one of them left and he swung his sword over and over again as his wife died on the floor next to his best friend. He eventually cleared the guards around him, but as soon as he did, a young man walked into the room and said gibberish out loud.
I now know what he did. He ordered all the guards in the room to kill my father, and that’s what they did. He tried to protect Nathaniel’s mother, but they surrounded both of them like a pack of lionesses surrounding their prey, ready to attack at any given moment. Nathaniel must have grasped the situation faster than I did because I didn’t realize that we were in the middle of the ballroom. He yelled my name multiple times, but my eyes didn’t wander off the image of my mother lying on the ground and my father about to be killed.
He grabbed my arm, which brought me back to the scene in front of me. Our two bodyguards, the same ones who practically raised Nathaniel and I. The ones who were like brothers to each other were trying to kill each other, or at least George was. Donatello begged him to snap back to reality, but his murderous intent simply increased with every swing. George saw an opening and stabbed Donatello in the side before he turned to us. Nathaniel stepped up and began to fight him, but George’s superiority in sword fighting was evident. Soon he had Nathaniel against a wall with a sword to his throat. I grabbed him and begged him to stop.
I’m not sure what happened, but he suddenly just dropped the sword and looked around in terror. Like he didn’t know what was happening, or how he was in that situation in the first place. Nathaniel went to swing at him, but I stepped in the way thinking that George was really George again. I am well aware that I could’ve died doing so, but that feeling that George was back, just took over me. And I’m glad it did because George really was back.
He asked us what was happening, but we didn’t know either. He turned and saw a guard about to stab Donatello, who was lying on the floor. George stabbed the guard and fought everyone off as Nathaniel and I picked up Donatello. At first, Nathaniel tried to pick him up by himself, but I swallowed my vomit down and helped him as he was struggling to pick him up. Donatello was much taller than us, so his feet were dragging on the floor as we ran with him in our arms. We didn’t realize that he was leaving a trail, until George pointed it out.
We originally planned to go to the most secure room in the palace, my room, but it was too far, so we left through a secret exit in the wall and made our way to the servant’s quarters. There, Nathaniel and I tore up the jacket he had given me and the bottoms of my dress and wrapped up Donatello’s wound. As we were trying to stop the bleeding, George turned at a rustling sound and pointed his sword at someone who was hiding behind a bed. A young boy named Luke, who was a little younger than I was, poked his head out and offered his help. “How do we know we can trust you?” George asked without lowering his sword.
“I am only a stable boy, sir.” Luke began, “I was talking with some of the guards by the stables when they suddenly just turned and left for the ballroom mid-coversation. Whatever is happening, it’s not natural.” George told him to swear his allegiance to the crown right then and there, and Luke bowed to Nathaniel on the floor without hesitation before George approved him.
He properly dressed Donatello’s wounds and safely led us to the horse stables while avoiding any and all guards. I was put on one horse with Nathaniel and Donatello was placed carefully on George’s steed. We asked Luke to come with us, but he said that he’d rather help others get to the surrounding mountains until the castle was safe. Apparently, the royals weren’t the only ones being slaughtered. The guards were murdering everyone in their way, so Luke and two of his friends were sneaking around the castle to find people and lead them to safety. Like us.
We thanked him and went towards the wall that surrounded the castle’s South gate. Our only way out was through the woods. We got to the courtyard undetected, and even made it to the gate, but there were guards waiting for us. George told Nathaniel to follow closely behind him, and Nathaniel told me to hold on tight. They then dashed towards the gate, and the guards drew their swords to meet us.
As I was bracing for impact, the wooden crates fell from the top of the wall onto the guards heads. I looked up and saw Luke waving to us. He and his friend, Ella, scaled the wall and opened the gate for us. They asked us to go with them, but George declined their offer and decided to use a different path. As we were speaking, a few guards spotted us and sounded the alarm.
We immediately took off into the woods and the guards dispatched soldiers after us and Luke and Ella. We went in opposite directions, so I don’t know what happened to them. They chased us through the woods, until they were right on our tails. I turned to see what was happening, and I saw them drawing their arrows and yelled it to George and Nathaniel. They began to weave between the trees, using the darkness at our advantage, and we shook them off for a short while too.
As we got away, George suddenly told us to jump off the horses to the side and stay low. I wasn’t sure what to do, so Nathaniel grabbed me and we jumped off right after George did with Donatello. The horses kept going and Nathaniel grabbed me by my mouth as I asked what we were doing. A short while after he did, guards rode past us as we laid in a death like silence in the long grass of the wood.
After the coast was clear, Nathaniel helped George put Donatello on his back, and we started walking, rather, following him. I asked him where we were going, and he told us that we were heading to their only safe haven. “The home of a man that I trust with my life.” were his exact words.
Two days into our journey and all I did was complain. I wasn’t used to walking for long periods of time and used that as an excuse to annoy Nathaniel and George. I told them that we should’ve stayed behind and helped everyone out like how Luke did. I called Nathaniel and George a bunch of cowards for placing our well-being over others and that made Nathaniel snap.
I remember walking through darkness following the sounds of my parents’ voices calling out for me. Their voices grew more urgent the closer I got to them, so I ended up running until I found myself standing in front of the doors that led to the ballroom. I knew what I would see if I walked in, so I turned around and tried to run away, but my feet were stuck to the ground. I looked down to see blood everywhere. The blood was holding my feet down and I couldn’t get out of it. I followed the trace until my eyes landed on the source, my parents lifeless bodies.
Two days passed, and Nathaniel was still angry with Donatello for knocking him out and taking him away from the confrontation. For the sake of breaking the horrible atmosphere, I asked George where we were going, and he told me to check the map. I opened it and it was moving. As in the map was getting smaller with every step the horse took. We stopped and so did the map. We were puzzled by what was happening, but decided to continue along.
That night, we walked into the most crowded bar we could find and told everyone in there that I knew where the missing girls were. A few guards asked me for proof, and I told them that I saw them take the girls deep into the woods and I barely escaped with my life. When they asked who the kidnapper was, I pinne
The immediate aftermath of the incident wasn’t all that dangerous. Emmanuel, Sage and the rest of the town gave us supplies for the rest of our journey, and apparently Emmanuel knew who we were. He told Donatello and George that “Nathaniel is a bit immature, but with time he’ll make an incredible king,” which w
We continued travelling along, following the map, and Donatello and George taught Nathaniel and I self-defense along the way. Nathaniel already had some sort of training as the crown prince, but I had never even been allowed to hold a knife, so I struggled a bit. Even though I felt like I was holding everyone b
Joan and Donatello arrived a little bit earlier than predicted and immediately noticed that they were in a military town. Military towns were towns located near military camps. Most supplies for the camp are attained from these kinds of towns. The most distinctive feature of military towns is the presence of soldiers, everywhere. However, they managed to avoid most of them and get to the town’s clinic. That’s when they met Nara.
Before I could even get my bearings, debri began to crumble above me and I had to dive out of the way to avoid getting hurt. I looked up to see what almost fell on my head, and I saw the Palace of Ceres, my home. It was on fire and falling apart. I stood in awe and horror at the sight of my home being burned to
To the perfection of a human reading this,Hi, It’s Narnia’s Fifth Resident. The author. Not Callisto*, the Narnian Resident, fifth one to be exact. If you are reading this, that means that you’ve reached the end of Callisto’s Gift! CONGRATULATIONS and thank you soooo much. Words honestly can’t explain how happy I become when I see even one new read on any of the chapters. It gives me the encouragement to keep going and keep writing. It may not mean much to you, but it means the world to me.As a young writer, it’s difficult to put your work out there, and to have people actually take you work seriously as you continue to grow as an author yourself. Keeping consistency even though you feel as though you’ll never be recognized is tough. However, that feeling of guilt from giving up and letting those 2 or 3 re
I was reading a book on a chair in her room, as Elizabeth was being fitted into her coronation gown. The book that I was reading was one that I had borrowed. It once belonged to Merlin, but the book that the maids and Elizabeth thought I was reading was some cheesy romance novel about a maid and the son of a duke. Don’t get me wrong. Those are interesting, but not really my cup of tea. When they were finished, Elizabeth dismissed the seamstresses, maids, and even her ladies-in-waiting, but kept me. She sat down next to me and sighed, so I ignored her childish plea for attention. Sh
He turned slowly and tried to strike me with his own sword, but I had guessed he would do something like that, so blocking him was easy. He knew I had the upper hand in the situation, but he still swung his sword at mine. I couldn’t understand why. Why did he keep on swinging his sword at me with such hatred in his eyes? Were we not siblings? Was he not my older brother, and I his little sister? Was he really telling me the truth? Were we really related? He laughed at my question as he told me to, “Watch your blindspot.” He thrusted his sword at my right side, but I was able to trap in under my man.
The fourth bird I had conjured to keep an eye on everyone followed Nathaniel and Elizabeth as they went into the palace after Paul’s guards. Paul desperately sent all of his guards towards the two as he turned right at the end of the main hallway. “He’s going to the throne room!” Elizabeth notified her sparring partner as they stopped to fight the armed guards. Nathaniel stared into their eyes before asking them what they were doing, going up against the prince. “You killed the king and queen. You are no longer our prince,” one guard said as they all charged at them, swords raised.
The spell sent a rumbling through the ground starting from the top of the hill running down passed the execution grounds and into the town. I hopped on top of the wolf and as we scaled the mountain I noticed all the animals in the surrounding forest taking cover. It was as if they knew what was going to happen. Their instinct was warning them to get far away from me, but humans are different. We’d rather argue with it than actually listen to our own instinct. At the base of the hill, the Henko jumped high above the giant vines sprouting out of the ground and surrounding the castle. The vines took everyone’s attention away from the giant wolf that had just leaped onto palace grounds, allowing the Henko and I to take our places as we waited for our next turn. I conjured four birds and sent them out to scout the area and to keep my pro
(Seems like chapter twenty-five duplicated itself, so beware when purchasing it! They’re the exact same thing, so I don’t want you to waste your money. -Narnia’s Fifth Resident.) The soldiers around her all disagreed and begged me to take Elizabeth with us and leave them behind, but Elizabeth simply hushed them. “I’m not leaving any of you behind,” she said before grasping my hands and putting her trust in me. Her hands were so warm despite her being in a cell for so long. I wanted to stay with her for a little longer, but the second round of guards were on their way, so George, Nat
As I was sinking deeper and deeper into the dark sea water, I saw a blurry figure jump into the water after me. I tried to make out what it was as it swam closer and closer to me, but I passed out before I could figure out what I was looking at. I woke up in the flower field, and looked for Kevin so he could help me. Don’t get me wrong. I was still really upset, but I had to put all that behind me since there was a war to be won.I searched for him everywhere, but I couldn’t find him no matter where I looked. There was no picnic, so I just wandered through the fields like a lost boat at sea. Without Arthur’s keen sense of smell, it was even harder to find him. As I was abo
I didn’t believe him. Why should I anyway? Besides, both sides would become evenly matched if both Zephyr and I were using our magic. Maybe he wanted to discourage me from fighting somehow. He was lying to me. He had to have been, but what if
