She scrutinised the Alpha wolf in awe, she had seen nothing like that.
It was thirty feet tall, with three inches canines, and paws as large as saucepans
Such huge stature, sharp claws and fierce nature were no match for smaller wolves like the Omega
On the opposite side stood the Omega wolves, numbering up to thirty
Despite being weaker, their courage stood out. Their eyes were resolute. Rose knew all the familiar faces from the Omega pack
"Ro..ose?" Carol called out. She had been laying still all along. She struggled to sit up
"Yes mom, you've got to lay still" Rose tried to keep her on her back
"There's an Alpha wolf out there Mom" she announced
"Help me sit, will you?" Carol leaned forward "I know and it's come to take you" Carol replied her fidgeting daughter calmly
Rose's eyes widened. The words were hard to chew on
"W.. what? But why mom? Why me?" Her voice shook, tear filled her eyes
"You have to be stronger than ever now darling, you'll need to fight" Carol held her shoulder
"How mother? I'm just a twenty one year old who doesn't know how to go about any of this. I'm not ready mom" Rose said helplessly
"You are. You've got it in you, the same extraordinary strength Alexander possessed. Don't be afraid" Carol pulled her close
"Mom!" She sobbed "I need you to help me out"
"I'll be gone any moment now, stay strong, for you and Jack" Carol urged her
"No" Rose shook her head vehemently
The screams and snarling outside faded slowly, then a loud growling followed
"Take Jack and hide. Now!" Carol commanded
Rose pulled her younger brother behind her, and made them squeeze through the closet.
"Don't come out, no matter what" Carol glanced at her children, this was probably the last time she was going to see them.
Rose nodded and shut the door of the closet carefully.
"I'm scared Rose" Jack said in a squeaky voice
She could imagine the torment his mind was going through at that moment
He was a child after all but wasn't she a child too? Her disposition towards the hardship she underwent pushed her into the arms of adulthood much faster
And ever since she beheld the little red-haired boy, she knew it was her duty to protect him.
She reached out her arm, circled it round his
shoulder and pulled him to herself
"It's going to be alright Jack, I promise" she assured
What did she know about the whole situation that gave her the audacity to make such a bold promise? Hope, despite everything, a strange beam of it filled her
A sound emerged, like the door was being ripped apart. She heard the plates shatter followed by a wild grunt
"It's here" Rose muttered silently, her body went numb in shock. Fear had literally embraced her.
"Wayne.. it's been fifteen years" Carol spoke more calmly than ever
"Carol" the beast said in Wolf Speak
"What were you really thinking by running off with the two of them to hide in such a vulnerable village?
Even if you wanted to hide, why choose the weakest pack of all?"
It dragged it's large feet to where the mirror hung and licked the blood that dripped from its claws
"You know, I really expected a real fight, some real action with some real wolves.
Not a catch-and-kill game with a bunch of domestic dogs. I literally mercy-killed all of them. Ha!" It's deep voice rang aloud in a horrific laughter.
"I am a mother with a heart, I did what I could to protect my own. That's something you'd never understand" Carol fired back
He gnawed, "I really wanted to save you, Carol. Was no fault of mine, Alexander was my best friend"
"And I was the girl you claimed you loved so much. We were perfect mates planning our lives together but Alexander got greedy as usual and desired to have me at all cost" Carol exhaled
"On that night when he forced his way with me, I cried and howled severally for you to come
And when you eventually came, what did you do? Stand in the shadows, watching
You chose your friendship with that animal over me!" Tears threatened to fall down Carol's face
"I saw you that night, nothing could have broken me more, not even the incident
All because Alexander was the Alpha's heir right? I conceived a child afterwards and was forced to be with him, you did nothing still.
You knew how quick he was to use me for his selfish ambitions and you consented, didn't you?" Carol shook her head
Rose held her breath almost all the way as she listened. This meant her mother knew the male werewolf from before
She sat there, closing Jack's ears shut, trying to make out what they said
"Everything we shared is buried in the past. I have no business with you anymore, Carol
I was instructed to take the children and murder you but for some reason, I'll spare you. Just hand them over to me and you can keep your life". The wolf gave an evil smile
"Oh Wayne" Carol smiled wryly
"You've always underestimated me, haven't you? I took them to a distant hideout as soon as I sensed your musky tail around
The last thing I would allow is watching you abduct my little werewolves for some crazy agenda" Carol spat in anger
"Carol!" It grumbled it's way to her bedside and stood in front of her
"You had better open up about where they are before I sink my fangs into your thin neck" Wayne threatened
"No…" Rose objected silently. She strained her ears to receive more
"I'd never spill that out and you know it, you'd have to kill me first. So go ahead" her voice stood out a little more
"Do what you've been told. It's what you're best at isn't it? Taking orders and executing them faithfully like a servant.
And that's what you'll ever be- a forsaken errand dog" she spat at him mockingly
"Grrrr!" Wayne grunted and took hold of Carol's neck. He ran with her in light's speed.
He pinned her to the wall with his claws"Mmm" Carol groaned in pain, struggling to break free from its choking claws, kicking her legs fervently high above the ground which she was held. "Mom's in danger, I have to do something" Rose pushed the door of the closet open and leaped out, Jack crawled behind her. "It's so tragic that it had to come to this Carol. I gave you a choice" It elevated it's sharp hand in the air attempting to strike "Let her go, you monster!" Rose advanced towards it with a sharp rod. Wayne turned his bright red eyes towards her and kicked the poor girl away before she had a chance to hit it"So you weren't that smart after all Carolyn? I knew I smelt other wolves in this room" he released his paws from Carol's neck and made towards the girl who lay writhing in pain.Carol fell hard to the floor and broke a leg. She gnashed her teeth in pain"I see that you got your mother's stubbornness" he pulled Rose up by her hair "Your mother's stubborn spirit is what
She knew he didn't feel any pain but she had to fight. Her mother, the very root of her being was murdered in cold bloodThe reality that she would never see her mother again, not even as a sick person dawned on her and she gave up punching and fighting, letting fate do whatever it wished with herWayne grabbed Jack and let him hang on his arm like a jacket as he swindled his way through the dead bodies of Omega wolvesThe dried leaves crunched under Wayne's feet as he trod the woodsRose felt dizzy, blood had flowed into her head. She stole a few glances at the trees they passed by. There were claw marks on the barks of the trees, broken wolf teeth littered the ground. Wayne proceeded to the gate of the castle. A werewolf still in his human form jerked up immediately"These little wolves could run but never hide from someone like you. You're the best hunter wolf in the Alpha pack aren't you? I'm sure you'd be duly rewarded" the gate guard grinned foolishly "How about I come along w
"Ma mère, her food is ready" one of the maidens who had left earlier announced as she wheeled in a tray of covered food"Good. What about the bath?" The elderly woman enquired "Vanessa is having it done ma mère" the lady answered.Rose took hold of every information she heard, the senior lady was called mother, maybe she birthed the two younger women. Among the two, the shorter one was referred to as Vanessa."Where do I place it?""Over to this side, child" Ma mère directed her. The slender maiden obeyed quietly and made for the door"Miriam?" Ma mère called her attention"Yes, good mother" she turned"Go get some rest. You've been working since the midnight hour""I sure will" Miriam nodded her head before leaving the room"Dear child" Ma mère sprang up "Fill your belly with this meal so you can have your bath there after" she looked up at the clock ticking stealthily on the wall "It's already past one? Good gracious! Hurry child, you must be ready to see Madame Gloria by three" M
"Your brother is safe, Rose," Ma mére said, her voice firm and reassuring"I can assure you of that. I have my eyes on him, no one would dare lay a finger on him, and he is being well cared for. You don't need to worry about him." Rose sat there, still feeling a bit uncertain. "How can you be so sure?" she asked. "What if they find a way to get to him?"Ma mére took Rose's hand in hers. "I am sure because I am Headmaid and nothing is done without my consent " she said"Rose, I understand your desire to see your brother," Ma mére said, "but I cannot allow that to happen, at least not now. I know that you are worried about him, but I can assure you that he is safe and well-cared for. I am responsible for ensuring his safety, and I cannot compromise that by letting you see him. I hope you can understand that my child" Rose let out a sigh. She knew that Ma mére was right, but it was still difficult to accept "I understand," she said, even though it was hard to say the words."Thank you
"Rose," Madame Gloria said, "I must confess something to you. I am not just a woman who found you. I am your aunt. I am the sister of your father." Rose's eyes widened in shock. "My father?" she whispered. "You are my aunt?" Madame Gloria nodded. "Yes, my dear," she said. "Your mother never told you about me, but I assure you that I am telling the truth. I was separated from your father when we were children, and we were not reunited until many years later. By then, I knew that you and your mother were in hiding. I wanted to find you, to bring you home. But I knew that your mother was stubborn, and I did not want to pull you away when you were still so young . So I waited, and I watched, and I did what I could to make sure you were safeWhen I heard that your mother had been killed, I was glad you'd finally come to be with me. So I brought you here, to where you truly belong. I hope you can understand, and that you can forgive me for not telling you the truth sooner."Rose sat in si
Rose felt like the walls were closing in around her. She couldn't breathe, and she felt like she was about to pass outShe had never felt this much fear and confusion before, and she didn't know what to do. She looked up at Madame Gloria, and her eyes were filled with tears"Please, Madame," she said, her voice shaking. "I can't do this. I can't marry Conrad. I can't leave my brother. Please, let us go. I will do anything, just please, let us go."Madame Gloria's expression remained firm. "I truly understand my dear," she said softly. "I know this is difficult, but I need you to understand something. You are not just a prisoner here. You are from a royal family. You have so many privileges and immunities now. You're going to be married into the wealthiest wolf pack, you'd attain status and be rest assured that your brother will be fine. You owe this much to your father and the Kingdom. But I need you to understand the consequences of your actions. If you refuse to marry Conrad, the
Rose lay on her bed, her head in her hands, sobbing uncontrollably. She couldn't believe what had just happenedShe had been told that she had to marry someone she didn't know, or her brother would be killed. She felt like she was trapped, with no way outAnd on top of it all, she was missing her mother more than ever. She felt like she was lost in a maze of despair, with no way out. She curled up into a ball, pulling her knees to her chest, and wept. After what felt like hours, the door opened, and Ma mére enteredthe room. She looked at Rose with concern, and approached her"My dear child," she said, her voice gentle. "What is wrong? Tell me what happened." Rose looked up at her, her eyes red and swollen from crying. "It's... it's..." she stammered, trying to find the words. "It's the woman," she said, her voice cracking. "Madame Gloria. She told me... she told me that I had to marry someone... or... or she would... she would... hurt my brother!" She dissolved into tears again, una
After a week of being held captive by these strangers, Rose was finally allowed to see her little brother JackMa mére ordered the guards to take her to a small room, where Jack was sitting on the bed, his knees pulled up to his chest. He looked up at Rose with wide, frightened eyes."Jack!" Rose cried, rushing to him and wrapping her arms around him. He clung to her tightly, sobbing. "I'm so sorry," Rose whispered, tears streaming down her face. "I'm so sorry this is happening to us.""It's not your fault," Jack said, his voice shaking."It's those horrible men who did this to us," he continued. "They killed our mother and took us away from our home. I hate them so much!" Jack's anger was palpable, and Rose could feel it radiating off of him."I know, Jack," she said, trying to comfort him. "But we have to stay strong. We have to keep going, for our mother's sake." She took a deep breath and tried to gather her thoughts. "I think we should try to escape," she said. "If we can just g
The candle wax melted away slowly, Rose sat up with the sheets over her legs. Her skin oozed sweat, her brows furrowed. She felt Yseult's cold arm on her arm, she knew she couldn't keep the nightmares anymore to herself, even though she felt terrified. She peered into Yseult little eyes, and began "I was in a dark and empty room," Rose began, her voice shaking slightly. "It was cold, and I was alone. I could hear the wind howling outside, and I could feel the chill seeping in through the walls. I was so afraid, and I didn't know where I was or how I had gotten there. All I knew was that I was trapped, and I couldn't escape." She paused, taking a deep breath. "Then, I heard a noise. It was the sound of footsteps, coming closer and closer to me. I was terrified, not knowing what was coming.""What happened next?" Yseult asked, her voice low and soothing. "A shadow appeared in the doorway," Rose continued. "It was dark and without figure, but I knew it was something terrible. I wanted
Rose was wandering through a dark forest, the trees looming over her like silent sentinels. She felt lost and alone, her heart filled with a sense of dread. She was walking through the forest for what seemed like hours, when suddenly she heard a voice calling out her name "Rose," the voice said, soft and sweet, like a mother's lullaby. "Rose, where are you?" Rose stopped, looking around in the darkness. "Mother?" she called out. "Is that you?"The voice continued to call to her, leading her deeper and deeper into the forest. She stumbled over roots and rocks, her feet growing heavy with fatigue. But still, she pressed on, drawn to the voice like a moth to a flame Finally, she saw a light shining through the trees, like a beacon in the night. She ran towards it, her heart racing with hope She burst into a clearing, and there she saw her mother, standing in the moonlight. She was as beautiful as Rose remembered her, with her long, flowing hair and her gentle smile."Mother," Rose b
Rose sat under a tree, watching Yseult as she carefully gathered herbs from the field. Yseult moved with such grace and purpose, picking the herbs with a practiced ease. Rose had been helping Yseult gather herbs for the past few days, and she was fascinated by the process. Yseult had taught her the names of the herbs and their uses, and Rose had been impressed by the knowledge. Yseult was so confident and sure of herself, and Rose felt in awe of her.As Yseult gathered the last of the herbs, she turned to Rose with a smile. "That's the last of the herbs for today," she said "Now, let's go back to the cottage and make some tinctures." Rose stood up and followed Yseult back to the cottage. As they walked, Yseult pointed out different plants and told Rose their usesRose listened intently, soaking up every word. When they reached the cottage, Yseult led Rose to the kitchen and set out the herbs on the table. "Now, we must prepare the tinctures," she said, taking out a mortar and pes
The strange house loomed ahead, shrouded in shadows. Rose and Jack crept closer, their hearts pounding in their chests. They had been running for hours, since they had escaped the werewolf kidnappers They had no idea where they were, or what they would find in this strange place. But they had to take a chance, or the werewolves would catch themAs they approached the house, they noticed something odd. There were no windows, and the door was made of solid wood, with no knob or handle. It was almost as if the house didn't want anyone to enter. But they had no choice. "Do you think it's safe?" whispered JackRose shook her head, but she knew they had no other option. They both had cuts and bruises from their escape, and they were starting to feel weak with hungerThey had to find a place to rest, even if it was just for a few hoursWith a deep breath, Rose raised her hand and knocked on the door. There was no response, but they could hear a muffled sound from within the house. They kno
The chief guard, Wayne stood in the shadows, just out of sight of the room where Ma mére was speaking to the junior maids He had been assigned to keep watch over the servants, to make sure they were not plotting anything against the royal familyBut now, he had something much more important to worry about. He had heard the children's escape, and he knew that if the king found out, there would be serious consequences So he had to act fast. As he listened to Ma mére's words, he decided to make his move.He stepped out of the shadows, and cleared his throat loudlyAll eyes turned to him, and the room fell silent. Ma mére looked at him with a mixture of surprise and fear"What are you doing here?" she demanded "I was just checking in on the servants, until…" Wayne replied, his voice firm and unshakable"How long have you been standing there son?" Ma mére wore a frightened look"How dare you? How dare you let the children escape right under your nose?" "You must not speak of the childr
The evening was so thick with tension as Rose clutched her younger brother, Jack's hand, their fingers intertwined like a lifeline"Rose… please don't let go of my hand" the poor boy said under his breath Jack was obviously sore afraid, and he had to, he was only a child. Rose was equally scared, maybe more but she couldn't let that stop herShe had to find a way out of that hell hole before they get killed like their motherShe halted suddenly, tightening her grip on Jack's hand. Hot tears filled her eyes and traced her cheeks slowly"Rose? What.. What's wrong? Are you crying?" Jack peered into his sister's face innocently"It's just… I miss mom so much. I'd do anything to see her even if it's for a second" she closed her eyes and let the tears fall liberally"Oh Rose…" Jack circled her in a tight hug, bursting aloud in tears"Hey champ, it's okay alright?" She sniffed in hard, attempting to calm him down " We're going to be alright, we just have to be strong and keep moving forward
The sound of the door crashing open startled the guards. Ma mére, the head maid, stood in the doorway, her face slapped by confusion "The children are gone!" she cried. "They have escaped!" The guards looked at each other, fear and panic in their eyes "How could they have escaped?" one of them asked. "We had them under lock and key!" "It doesn't matter how they did it," Ma mére snapped. "We have to find them before they get lost completely!" The guards scrambled to their feet, grabbing their weapons and rushing out of the roomMa mére stood in the middle of the room, seething with fear "I sensed it, I felt it in my bones, I just didn't do anything about it ," she muttered to herself. "They were always up to something, always planning their escape . And now they have gone, haven't they? They take over their mother indeed" she scoffed "Oh, poor children, you don't deserve any of this. It's not your fault" she talked to herself "You've been through so much already, all because of
