Hadrian woke up at the sound of the breaking pot and cups. Anton looked at his master and they stared at each other for a while. Hadrian realized what Anton was holding and immediately thought up excuses in his mind to keep Anton from prying further. To no avail.

‘Your Majesty, what is this?’ Anton asked and Hadrian looked away, infuriated at his own carelessness. ‘Emperor Franz was murdered?’

‘Anton,’ the young man said, standing up from his chair. ‘It is something I’m still investigating. I do not plan to make it known to anyone yet.’

    Henrik paced back and forth waiting for news of Catherine’s whereabouts; agitated at his men’s slow response, he kept asking his butler of news from the search party, he gave orders after orders and after more than a half hour later, the soldiers that came and he received reports from soldiers who were scurrying in and out of the office. Valdemar stood beside him just looking at the men as they talk to the King. His eyes were angry, but not because of the soldiers, but because of Catherine running away.     Valdemar pulled the trigger of the gun he grabbed from the guard, aiming intently at Catherine and as he shot, Hadrian went between him and Catherine and the bullet hit Hadrian’s left chest and he fell on the ground, he pointed the gun at Hadrian once more and shot him a second time, this time, hitting him in his left shoulder. The guards pinned Valdemar down and kicked the gun aside, Albert pulled out his sword and is about to lunge at the duke, but Ivan stopped him. ‘You cannot do anything rash; our position is already sensitive as it is.’ Ivan told Albert who’s fuming in anger. ‘Hadrian!’ Catherine shouted and kneeled beside Hadrian who is bleeding on the floor. She carefully cradled his head as the others scrambled to call for a doctor. ‘Hadrian, please wake up!’ Hadrian huffed and coughed. They looked closely at his chest and curiously there was not a drop of blood on his clothes. He winced at the pain on his shoulder and knew he was shot there.
