The moment I saw Daniel's name flash across my phone, a cold dread settled in my stomach. I hesitated before answering, knowing full well that any interaction with him could spiral out of control. But I had no choice. I needed to know what he was planning.

“Emily,” his voice was smooth and confident, each syllable dripping with that familiar arrogance that always put my defenses on high alert. “I trust you’ve been keeping busy.”

“Cut the pleasantries, Daniel. What do you want?” I replied, keeping my tone steady, though my heart raced.

“Straight to the point, I see. I like that,” he said, an edge of amusement in his voice. “I just wanted to give you a heads-up. You might want to keep a closer eye on your little team. Trust can be so... fragile.”

I felt my pulse quicken as his words sank in. “What are you implying?”

“I’m merely suggesting that someone close to you might be a little... disloyal.” He chuckled softly. “But I suppose you’ll find out soon enough.”
