Chapter 50: THE CONFRONTATION

The cold air at the docks was thick with tension, and every nerve in my body felt like a coiled spring. We had come here looking for answers, for Mikey, but instead, we’d found nothing but darkness. I clenched my fists, trying to stay calm, but my heart wouldn’t stop racing.

“Emily, we need to regroup,” Oliver urged from beside me, his voice barely above a whisper. He was right—we had no clue where Rachel had taken Mikey, and being out here in the open made us vulnerable. Still, I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was about to happen. My instincts were screaming at me that Rachel was close, lurking in the shadows.

Suddenly, the sound of footsteps echoed from behind one of the containers. I turned sharply, my breath catching in my throat. Emerging from the shadows was Rachel, her silhouette framed against the distant lights of the city.
