The message from Daniel sat heavy in my hand. His words were simple—nothing overtly threatening—but I knew Daniel too well. Every text, every call, every encounter with him carried a subtext, a hidden meaning that kept me on edge.

_"We need to talk. Urgently."_

My stomach twisted into knots. Whatever he wanted to discuss, it was never just a conversation. There were always stakes, usually too high for me to grasp until it was too late. I stared at the message, the weight of everything between us pressing down on me, and for a moment, I considered ignoring it. But I knew that wouldn’t work. Daniel always found a way to get what he wanted.

Oliver was still standing across from me, watching me closely, his brow furrowed in concern. I hadn’t told him about the message yet—I was still processing the kiss, the confusion that followed, and now this new curveball from Daniel. I felt like I was standing on quicksand, everything shifting beneath me, and I didn’t know where to place my feet.
