ACE'S POV

A circus of thoughts was swirling through my mind while I ran like an insane person who was working to escape from the sanatorium. The stink of antiseptic mixed with sweat and bleach stained the air as I scurried to get to Vanessa.

ROOM 212.

I stood clutching my chest while squeezing my eyes shut, struggling to calm my breathing. I was nervous — fuck that — I was terrified. Grandma told me over the phone that Vanessa lost a lot of blood, she sounded disturbed.

“If anything happens to my baby or Vanessa, I will never forgive myself."

I wiped my sweaty palms on my trousers and with nervous hands; I twisted the doorknob and nudged the door open. It creaked, causing three sets of eyes to focus my way.

Vanessa was there, perching on the double mattress; her back being cushioned into a sitting position by three pillows, and Grandma was holding her hand for comfort. I barely noticed the person sporting a white coat and holding the clipboard.

“Vanessa —” But before I could ask her

THIS CHAPTER CONTAINS A VIVID SCENE OF VIOLENCE THAT MAY BE TRIGGERING FOR SOME. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!There was no doubt about it. The God of lightning and thunder was furious as he cast down on the earth glorious streaks of lightning brightening the night's sky; it was like a brilliant camera flash as it struck repeatedly. The thunder rolled across the midnight sky; it was as if it demanded to crack the world in two. Thor was angry with the earth because of people like Harrison.Like a raging Banshee, the wind screamed and howled, reverberating around the green landscape, eerily echoing as Ace desperately manoeuvred through the ruthless raindrops that were relentlessly plummeting from the heavens, it was like there were scores of Japanese aircraft flying above the vehicle dropping kamikaze bombs down on the ground, and they splattered against the roof of the car like stones against a zinc surface.Ace gripped the steering wheel tight. He squinted his eyes, trying to see through the

ACE'S POVAn hour after I obliterated Harrison, the police and the paramedics showed up. Their excuses were the storm cut down many trees and power poles that blocked their way to our neighbourhood. “Ace, I don't feel so good," Pebbles complained. The rain had stopped, and a female paramedic took her into the back of the ambulance and gave her a quick inspection. “You're burning up. Are you in pain?" She asked Pebbles.“I have a sharp twinge in my lower abdomen.”The paramedic placed Pebbles to lie on the bed inside the ambulance. She examined her tummy. Pebbles motioned for me to stay by her side. I sat in the back with her and held her hand. “When was your last period?” She asked Pebbles.“Ahh, maybe 2 months ago," she replied.“I see. Are you guys using protection?” She inquired, this time eyeing me.“She's a virgin," I answered for Pebbles. The woman gaped at me like I had five heads. Probably thinking a guy like me would live between his girlfriend's thighs. Believe me, there

MATURE SCENES AHEAD. FOR 18 YEARS AND OLDER. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED. AUGUST 8TH, 2009ACE'S POVA week had passed since the death of Harrison. Pebbles had been in a zombified state ever since; she eats and sleeps, that's it. She hardly spoke to us. Plus, the police coming by the house; poking around, and digging us for answers didn't help the situation. She didn't fight Pops and me when we indicated she should see her therapist twice per week.I was surprised though that she only had one nightmare throughout this entire ordeal. She had been staying in the guest room downstairs; she was unable to make it past the first set of steps. Pops was working hard trying to get us into our new home before the end of the month; this house was now corrupted and stained with death and dreadful memories.“How's she holding up, son?” Pops asked. He and G-pa had been worried sick. Jilly had been coming over every day, but Pebbles refuse to see her. The only people she allowed her company were Pops, G-pa,

PEBBLES' POVI had been thinking about this for a while now, but I'd always been shy. But after the way Ace touched me while I was on my period, nothing was off-limits with him now. I wished to please him in every way he desires. He could do whatever he wanted with my body when the time was right. But right now, I am wanting to taste him.I moved him slowly with one hand so that his back was up against the sink. I jerked on the waist of his pants, and his eyes widened as he lifted an eyebrow at me. He wasn't sure what I was up to. “Take your shirt off,” I commanded. He tugged on the bottom of his black t-shirt and slid it over his head. My eyes went to work on his muscles. They were bigger; more defined than the first day I saw him. I took his right nipple in my mouth and gently massaged it with my tongue. He grabbed a handful of my hair as he grunted with desire. I sucked his other nipple in my mouth, but this time I seized it between my teeth and ran the tip of my tongue over the p

COOKIE'S POVI was so concerned about Pebbles. She hadn't been receiving our calls for the past few weeks. But we knew she had been struggling to grapple with the horror of the incident with Harrison. She had been through so much, I just hoped she would be OK.I should have known that it was Mobley doing the killings, especially after I saw the news broadcasts a few months back. The details were gnawing at me. When the anchor lady informed the viewers that a slew of black girls had been slaughtered during sex, I should have known it was Mobley. I got thrown off when the news reports said that a few were consensual sex. But most of the victims showed signs of struggle, which meant that they were raped before they were strangled. They all were around 5'2 and had the same complexion as Pebbles, even their hair and eye colour were just like Pebbles'. I remembered finding it very eerie.“Why the fuck are you staring into space?” Sinister howled at me, disturbing me from my thoughts. He had

PEBBLES' POVAUGUST 20ETH, 2009It was the hours of dawn on a Thursday; the days seemed to be growing hotter, and Bradley finally set the date for the movers to transport us into our new home. Blake and I had not been to the estate as yet. The men informed us they preferred to see the look of surprise on our faces the day we move in. I was encased in Ace's arms; he was like a furnace; I was soaked in perspiration, most of it his. Just as I was about to clamber from under the covers, Ace's phone buzzed. “Fuck," he murmured groggily. He pressed the answer button without noticing the caller I.D. “Hello,” his eyes opened wide, and he plunged to his feet. “I'm on my way. I'll be there.” He ended the call and dropped the phone on the bed.“Ace, what happened?”“That was Grandma. Vanessa is in labour.”“Oh, my God. Is she OK?" “Yes. Grandma said the doctor says she still has a few hours to go," he sighed.“But when did Mary arrive?”“She came back last night, but because of what transpire

BRADLEY'S POVI sat in the coffee shop at the corner of Grace Street, sipping on a vanilla cappuccino. “Where is Jimmy?” I questioned myself. Seeing that he was 20 minutes late. He informed me he had some important news to pass on, but that he couldn't do it over the phone. Albert Penn also responded to come to meet us all the way from Georgia. I waited for another 20 minutes before I saw Jimmy strolling into the shop. He had an elderly gentleman with him. I assumed it was Albert. “I apologize for being late Bradley, I had to make a pit stop," Jimmy pulled out a chair and gestured for the old man to sit, then he took the seat next to him. “Bradley, say hello to Albert Penn," Jimmy announced.“Ah! So, you're Miranda Townsend's, Albert Penn?" I stretched my palm out to shake the man's hand. He was still a handsome-looking fellow. One could tell he was quite the looker in his prime. His silver hair was slicked back in a pompadour. His brown eyes were strikingly handsome, and his tall s

He was on his way out when he heard Sinister's uproar. “What the fuck are you doing here?” Sinister asked as he inspected the blue-eyed man with disdain. “I told you I never wanted to see your faggot face again.”Sinister was not only a racist, but he was a bigot, homophobe, sexist, and the list goes on. PEBBLES' POV AUGUST 30ETH 2009It had been a long night. I woke up snuggled in Ace's arms. We made love four times last night. With the pulsating feeling between my legs, I now realized that I should have rethought the last two times. I snickered to myself. I tried to untangle myself from his heavy limbs, but I failed miserably. “Morning, beautiful," Ace said groggily while he peeped from one eye. “Are you trying to ditch me after sleeping with me?” He chuckled.“Yes, you caught me." I rolled my eyes.“I'm afraid I can't let you leave me.” He tightened his arms around my waist and pulled me closer to his chest. “At least not until you kiss me.” I tugged the cover over my lips. “I will kiss you when I've brushed my teeth," I told him. My mouth tasted sour, and I was not about to poison Ace with my morning breath.“Pebbles — I'm sure your breath is not that awful.” He tickled me.Of course, he would say that. His breath wasn't that bad — in fact, his mouth had no smell other than of a

PEBBLES' POVThe blue sleeveless shirt he wore had a map of perspiration down the middle. His skin was as wet as if he just pulled himself from a pool. He flexed his muscles, and I gulped. The hot weather was aiding in igniting our passions, sending our internal blaze for each other into overdrive. The way Ace was undressing me with his eyes, made me feel like a woman, and he hadn't even touched me as yet. I spun around and faced the wall. The heat was too much.“Are you OK?” He asked concerned. “Yes. It's just when you look at me like that -” I breathed out. “I feel like I'm going to spontaneously combust.”He growled. I heard his feet scraping against the floor as he rushed up behind me. He leant in, his breath tickling my ear, sending heat waves down my neck then spanning out all over my body. His hands snaked around and cupped my breasts. My head tilted into him. “I want you Pebbles - Fuck it, I crave you,” he snarled, then he took my earlobe between his teeth.“Oh Jesus,” I sig

PEBBLES' POVIt was late afternoon, Ace texted me letting me know he was on his way home. I just had my third shower for the day. I knew summers were expected to be hot, but today the sun was at full blast, I prayed many times, beseeching God to turn it down a notch. Earlier, I heard on the radio that this summer has been the hottest one recorded in Massachusetts since the 1950s.I was dripping in sweat from head to toe. My skin was glistening and my nape damp. I took a few ice-cubes from the freezer and added them to my glass of water. This heat made it difficult to breathe, I sighed as I hoisted the water to my mouth and quaffed it down in one go.I heard the rumble of an engine and then tires screeching in the driveway. I proceeded to the window and peeped outside. Ace was home.I observed as he exited the car. I could detect the salty droplets trickling down Ace's face like gentle summer rain. The pellets of sweat rippled onto the concrete pavement as he conducted his way to the f

He then served me breakfast and informed me he made reservations for two at the most romantic and expensive restaurant in town.He hired a beautician to help me get fixed for the night. I received the royal treatment; the body massage, facial, manicure, pedicure, hair, makeup, and I got waxed in all the right places. I had finally decided on taking the next step with Ace.I was ready and waiting by 6 pm. I waited for three freaking hours, but he never showed up. No calls, texts, no nothing. AUGUST 27TH, 2009BRADLEY'S POV“I wish to meet her today. I am an old man. Who knows how much longer I have on this earth?" Albert explained. It upset him I wouldn't let him see Pebbles. She had been discharged from the hospital just 3 days ago. The doctors informed me she was OK, only a little whiplash. “Albert, you have to consider that she has been through a lot. How do I introduce you two without telling her the story behind who you are?"“I don't know, but from what I've discovered, Pebbles is stronger than you realize. Something tells me she can handle it.”“I think you should let him meet her, Bradley. Pebbles has a right to know," Jimmy added.“OK.
