They say nightmares are fragmented re-enactments of people or events your brain reserves from when you're awake; it twists and alters an already frightening memory into something far more perverse and disturbing.

That was happening to our Pebbles. Her nightmares had returned—but they weren't gone for long. She finally felt at peace; safe when she entered the lives of the Dicksons. She thought she left her past; her old life behind along with the people who created all her pain and troubles, only to have a small insignificant piece of her story in which she preferred to forget, appearing at her front door in the essence of Jenna. She asked herself, how did Ace know Jenna and did he know who she was to her? The many outcomes of events that could occur if Jenna had seen her tormented her from the depths of her subconscious.

Sinister came for her—she looked on in horror as he slashed open Bradley's throat. Ace battled to protect her, but he was no match for the power of the devil. He du

PEBBLES' POVI curled up in my bed, relishing the fact that Ace was so perfect. I felt he genuinely cared for me, and I was so relieved that Jenna was just a mistake that he now regretted. What a catastrophe that would have been if she had seen me yesterday? My body was well-rested even though I only slept for 6 hours. I had been up for half an hour, grinning up at the ceiling, lost in my thoughts of Ace. I rose from the bed and went straight to the shower. I wanted — no; I needed to see my boyfriend. ************“You ever considered doing this for a living?” I greeted Ace with a kiss on the cheek, and he chuckled. Man, that man could cook.“Good morning, Dollface. I assume you'd still be sleeping — I was planning on surprising you with breakfast in bed.”“This past weekend had been full of surprises that pretty much can last me a lifetime. I think I'm good for now,” I giggled.“Help yourself. I made you a plate — just let me finish up here.” His back muscles flexed as he flipped th

Two hours thereafter and Pebbles still felt the remnants of Ace's touch. His smell still lingered in her nostrils, causing her to feel a sense of euphoric hopelessness. She almost didn't want to shower; afraid of washing his scent away. She reminisced about the feeling of his lips kissing down there, rocking her body into submission, and opening doors she never knew she had. Her mouth let out an involuntary moan in ecstasy as she imagined what it would feel like when he was inside her. A blush tinted her body as she stepped into the shower. Pebbles did things with the showerhead that Evie once told her about. After her much-needed shower, she headed downstairs, only to meet Bradley walking through the door. “Bradley, you're home,” Pebbles squealed. He dropped his bag at the door and gave her a bear hug. His fatherly scent comforted her in ways she'd always yearned for. “Did you have a pleasant weekend?” He asked, running his thumb over Pebbles' cheek and giving it a childlike pinch.

APRIL 1ST, 2009ACE'S POVLike air-raid sirens, her screams pierced the early hours of dawn, resounding through the terraced house, jarring my tired body to awareness. My every thought was in high-definition as my ears registered her intermittent wails. In silent consternation; with skyrocketing heart rate and dilated pupils, I galloped towards the room across the hallway from mine. There, in the shadows, lay Pebbles thrashing through another one of her nightmares. The sweat, the screams, her furrowed brows. You would have expected that after 42 nights, I would be accustomed to seeing her like this, but still, my soul could not tolerate the pain.“No — please, don't take him from me — don't take my Ace from me." My heart stung as soon as my name tumbled from her lips.I switched the bedside lamp on, “Pebbles, wake up,” I tenderly caressed her face. It took little to pull her from her nightmares anymore. Her eyes instantly shot open, releasing the tears that had gathered behind her clos

PEBBLES' POVThe past couple of days had been chaos. Bradley had two therapists come by the house since I demanded a meeting with them. I wanted to see if I'd be comfortable enough to lay on a couch in their office, spilling all my secrets and fears. The first one was a Mr. Spencer. He was a regular-looking man around Bradley's age; he spoke friendly, and he even had the nice guy-next-door smile, but the moment he shook my hand, I noticed it in his eyes. That thing that men like Sinister and Harrison possess, that twisted desire and greed that if they did not get what they crave, they would snap and take it by any measures necessary. Bradley saw my discomfort, and he immediately bid Mr. Spencer farewell.Mr. Cromwell was a unique case, and believe me, I say case because that's what he was. His beady eyes and sweat-stained armpits painted a picture of an addict of some sort. At least that's what Bradley said after he left. The first thing Mr. Cromwell mentioned was medications to help

PEBBLES' POV“Did you at least return the favour?” Evie was dying to know if I went down on Ace.“No, I wanted to, but his grandpa is always around,” I grumbled against the phone.“Hey, do you want to watch a movie?” Ace inquired, startling me. I didn't notice when he walked up. He was leaning against my door frame with his feet crossed at his ankles.“Sure, give me a minute. I've got Evie on the phone.”“OK, tell her I said hello," he chuckled.“She says hi back,” I told him. He gave me a wink, and then he sauntered to his room across the hall. My panties were soaked just by him winking at me. I wondered if he knew how much of an effect he had on my body. Everything about him turned me on. His sweaty body, his tattoos, the way he chewed his food, damn even the way he rubbed his nose and lips using the side of his thumb. I did not know how much longer I could live like this—the temptation was strong, all 6ft 3 inches of it. “I'll talk to you later, Evie.”“Wait, if he is as big as you

He caressed the surface of her right thigh, gently running butterfly kisses along her nape as he slammed into her from behind. It wasn't the first time he had fucked her, and it wouldn't be the last. He recalled how horny and wild she was in her prime, but as he moved his shaft in a circular motion, her 65-year-old cunt squeezed his manhood hungrily. He remembered how in love they'd been as youngsters, but her father made certain the love never blossomed. He arranged for her to wed another man; a man he had only seen in magazines until he rescued him from the thug who almost killed him a couple of months ago. It destroyed his heart when she left him 44 years ago. To his surprise, after the incident at the restaurant, her face was the first and only one he saw when he woke in the hospital the next morning. Apparently, seeing him bruised and beaten reignited the flame which they thought was burnt out a long time ago. They started an illicit affair a couple of weeks later. When he firs

PEBBLES' POV“Are you nervous?” Bradley inquired as he manoeuvred around vehicles on the roadway.I fired three therapists in the preceding two weeks. They had the credentials, the experiences, and the certificates of merits, but my gut kept telling me they weren't suitable for me. Bradley was so considerate and supportive. I adored him so much. Ace won the jackpot by having the best dad in the world — and grandpa, Thomas, was still there with us. He was quite the comedian. Occasionally I caught him staring at nothing in particular; it almost was like he zoned out, and I recognized a vast amount of trouble and sadness in his eyes. But as soon as he was yanked back to reality, he was his crazy fun self again. Bradley and Ace didn't seem to detect his pain, even Ace mentioned to me that his grandpa had never been that frivolous and outspoken. Bradley explained it was extremely refreshing to see his dad so free. But my woman's intuition told me that

  • COLOURS OF THE DEVIL   41: DOCTOR BLAKE NELSON

PEBBLES' POVI sat in the waiting area, glowering at the black-framed clock that was perched on the wall to my left. My eyes scrutinized the second hand, which seemed to taunt me by moving oh so slowly. I peeled my eyes away from the time, silently vowing to myself not to look at it anymore as it was only elevating my impatience—but who was I kidding? I fixed my hands on my knees to stop them from shaking every five seconds, with my eyes still glued to the face of the clock. I knew I told Bradley earlier that I wasn't nervous, but the moment I stepped through the bubblegum-pink door, my heart rate escalated. I worked my palms to collect the pellets of sweat from my forehead, and then I wiped them on my jeans. I then rested my palms once more on my trembling knees. The sound of a door creaking caught my awareness. My head spun so fast, I was positive my neck would be sore for days to come. A tall, slender lady in her mid-thirties half-stepped from the opened door. Her pretty green bug-

  • COLOURS OF THE DEVIL   61: THINK LIKE THE DEVIL

PEBBLES' POV AUGUST 30ETH 2009It had been a long night. I woke up snuggled in Ace's arms. We made love four times last night. With the pulsating feeling between my legs, I now realized that I should have rethought the last two times. I snickered to myself. I tried to untangle myself from his heavy limbs, but I failed miserably. “Morning, beautiful," Ace said groggily while he peeped from one eye. “Are you trying to ditch me after sleeping with me?” He chuckled.“Yes, you caught me." I rolled my eyes.“I'm afraid I can't let you leave me.” He tightened his arms around my waist and pulled me closer to his chest. “At least not until you kiss me.” I tugged the cover over my lips. “I will kiss you when I've brushed my teeth," I told him. My mouth tasted sour, and I was not about to poison Ace with my morning breath.“Pebbles — I'm sure your breath is not that awful.” He tickled me.Of course, he would say that. His breath wasn't that bad — in fact, his mouth had no smell other than of a

The hot weather was aiding in igniting our passions, sending our internal blaze for each other into overdrive. The way Ace was undressing me with his eyes, made me feel like a woman, and he hadn't even touched me as yet. I spun around and faced the wall. The heat was too much.“Are you OK?” He asked concerned. “Yes. It's just when you look at me like that -” I breathed out. “I feel like I'm going to spontaneously combust.”He growled. I heard his feet scraping against the floor as he rushed up behind me. He leant in, his breath tickling my ear, sending heat waves down my neck then spanning out all over my body. His hands snaked around and cupped my breasts. My head tilted into him. “I want you Pebbles - Fuck it, I crave you,” he snarled, then he took my earlobe between his teeth.“Oh Jesus,” I sig

PEBBLES' POVIt was late afternoon, Ace texted me letting me know he was on his way home. I just had my third shower for the day. I knew summers were expected to be hot, but today the sun was at full blast, I prayed many times, beseeching God to turn it down a notch. Earlier, I heard on the radio that this summer has been the hottest one recorded in Massachusetts since the 1950s.I was dripping in sweat from head to toe. My skin was glistening and my nape damp. I took a few ice-cubes from the freezer and added them to my glass of water. This heat made it difficult to breathe, I sighed as I hoisted the water to my mouth and quaffed it down in one go.I heard the rumble of an engine and then tires screeching in the driveway. I proceeded to the window and peeped outside. Ace was home.I observed as he exited the car. I could detect the salty droplets trickling down Ace's face like gentle summer rain. The pellets of sweat rippled onto the concrete pavement as he conducted his way to the f

AUGUST 27TH, 2009BRADLEY'S POV“I wish to meet her today. I am an old man. Who knows how much longer I have on this earth?" Albert explained. It upset him I wouldn't let him see Pebbles. She had been discharged from the hospital just 3 days ago. The doctors informed me she was OK, only a little whiplash. “Albert, you have to consider that she has been through a lot. How do I introduce you two without telling her the story behind who you are?"“I don't know, but from what I've discovered, Pebbles is stronger than you realize. Something tells me she can handle it.”“I think you should let him meet her, Bradley. Pebbles has a right to know," Jimmy added.“OK. But it'll have to be a brief visit because I am busy moving into our new home. We only have 4 days remaining in this place. I promised everyone we'll be out of this house by the 1st of September," I announced.“And Bradley, are you sure you don't want company to go with you to Florida?” Jimmy asked. After what he had revealed to me

PEBBLES' POV“Hmm," I groaned. A feeling of zeal and contentment enveloped my soul. My eyelashes fluttered open, taking in the beautiful sky up above; the blue was bright and soft, bringing a serenity I never knew existed. The wind gently guided the clouds across the atmosphere, taking them to places far and wide. The equanimity that my brain encountered as I cloud gazed; imagining a bald-headed newborn drinking from its mother's breast brought a sense of calmness matching the warmth of the daylight's beams; the sun's rays were the brightest I've ever witnessed. I stretched my torso and ran my fingers over the ground where I laid. The earth was soft, and I felt stems snaking through my fingers. My fingertips tingled, and my senses heightened as a gust of wind captured the mixed aromas of the flowery field, delivering them straight to my nose. The birds sang sweet melodies as I rose to my feet. My eyes adjusted to the surrounding view.“Magnificent," I praised. I was in awe. Miles and

BRADLEY'S POVI sat in the coffee shop at the corner of Grace Street, sipping on a vanilla cappuccino. “Where is Jimmy?” I questioned myself. Seeing that he was 20 minutes late. He informed me he had some important news to pass on, but that he couldn't do it over the phone. Albert Penn also responded to come to meet us all the way from Georgia. I waited for another 20 minutes before I saw Jimmy strolling into the shop. He had an elderly gentleman with him. I assumed it was Albert. “I apologize for being late Bradley, I had to make a pit stop," Jimmy pulled out a chair and gestured for the old man to sit, then he took the seat next to him. “Bradley, say hello to Albert Penn," Jimmy announced.“Ah! So, you're Miranda Townsend's, Albert Penn?" I stretched my palm out to shake the man's hand. He was still a handsome-looking fellow. One could tell he was quite the looker in his prime. His silver hair was slicked back in a pompadour. His brown eyes were strikingly handsome, and his tall s
