LUCY

The moment I caught the faint scent of blood and the unmistakable musk of a freshly formed mate bond, my world tilted. My chest tightened, and a deep, primal fury surged within me.

No. It couldn’t be.

But the whispers around the ballroom confirmed my worst fear. Ryan had done it. He’d marked her.

The grand charity ball, once a spectacle of elegance and sophistication, now felt suffocating. The chandeliers overhead sparkled mockingly, the chatter of the pack wolves grating on my ears. The music seemed distant, drowned out by the thunderous roar of my wolf clawing at my insides.

Ryan was mine. He was supposed to be mine.

I clenched my fists, my nails biting into my palms. The pain grounded me, but only slightly. Every fibre of my being screamed for retribution, for justice. How dare she steal him from me? How dare he let her?

I couldn’t stay here. Not with the scent of their bond saturating the air, a cruel reminder of what should have been mine.

I turned sharply on my heel, my hee

THOMASThe woodland was alive, with branches groaning, secrets being spoken by the wind, and the eerie hoot of an owl echoing overhead. With every stride, my boots dug into the wet dirt, drawing me more into the forest. The trees appeared determined to absorb the light and cover everything in gloom, despite the moon's light trying to reach the canopy. The sensation in my chest was more electric and sharper than terror. I felt a tinge of anticipation. It might change tonight. Maybe tonight I'll get back what I lost. I might win something I never would have imagined. She had been anticipating my arrival. Like a figure carved from the night itself, the witch stood in a clearing illuminated by a flickering lantern. The red hood she wore, black curls spilt from its edges, and the scarlet hood looked strikingly vivid against the dark background. The black, smouldering coals in her eyes seared right through me, even though I couldn't see her face well. "You're running late," she said. Despit

HAILEY Shadows clung to the trees like a quiet audience as the edge of the woodland loomed behind me. I held on to Alexia's small, lifeless body, her icy weight a harsh reminder of the atrocities I had just witnessed. The thorns and sharp stones were unrelenting, and my legs burned from scrapes. But in all honesty. The ache scarcely registered. It had no significance. Amenià stirred within me, her presence laden with fury and sorrow. Amenià whispered in my mind, "She's just a child," in a low, unpolished voice. "This wasn't fair to her. Not one bit of it. My voice broke as I muttered back, "She didn't deserve this." But now she's here. Additionally, I won't let her leave. Now that I could see the park entrance, I could hear the pounding footsteps and panicked cries of Logan, Flora, and Ryan behind me. They were after us. Screaming for me. With every heartbeat, Alexia's flame was fading, and she was drifting farther away. “No,” I muttered, holding her closer. "No, she won't leave me."

LUCYThe news struck me like a bolt of lightning, and the room whirled. Hailey was still alive. Despite all that was done to keep her down, she's still standing. Even worse, she had revived that brat, Alexia. How? Following all the meticulous planning and instructions given, how did things fail so badly? The porcelain fragments scattered over the floor like the fragments of my meticulously crafted plans and the vase I was holding broke against the wall. I screamed furiously in frustration and anger. I was so furious that my chest was heaving and my breathing was laboured. "How?" My voice reverberated through the deserted room as I screamed. This wasn’t how it was supposed to go. The prophecy, the whispers of power, the perfect plan with Thomas—it was all unravelling right before my eyes yet I can do nothing to salvage the entire ordeal. Hailey was meant to be gone, out of the picture, leaving the route clean for me to ascend. Instead, she was still here, gleaming with possessing some

HAILEYThe steady beep of monitors and the antiseptic smell of the pack's hospital were the first to penetrate as I stirred out of the haze of unconsciousness. My head throbbed dully, but it was the sensation of something deep, intimate, and utterly unfamiliar that summoned my consciousness."Hailey?" Ryan's voice penetrated the haze. His hand was warm, mine held in his firm clasp.I blinked, clearing my eyes to discover his face creased with worry. His green eyes were locked on mine, searching. "Ryan," I croaked, my throat dry. "What. what happened?""You lost it," he whispered, his thumb tracing the backs of my knuckles. "In the mess hall. The pack doctor had to sedate you when you wouldn't settle down." "Settle down?"You were suffering," Ryan told me, his jaw tightening. "No one knew why. I didn't know what to do."Memories flooded back—the poisoned food, the shield I'd put up around Alexia, the strange pull in my chest that I hadn't recognized then."I don't feel any pain now,"

MARISSA With its light barely powerful enough to cut through the darkness, the lone candle on the wooden table created lengthy shadows in the deserted cabin. My fingers drummed frantically against the rough wood as I leaned back in my chair. Around me, the outlaws stirred uneasily, shifting in their chairs and flitting their gaze at each other. It was a risk. However, I was prepared to accept one. For me, things aren't looking good. I yelled, "Enough," my voice cutting like a lash through the hum. "To hear your doubts, I didn't bring you oùt here to hear your excuses. You're either in or you're out. Garret, a large outlaw, hissed and flashed his yellowed teeth. "Marissa, it's not fear. It's delicate. Hailey isn't some she-wolf. We don't understand the powers she possesses. Moreover, she is currently expecting the Alpha King's pups. Do you have any clue how hot this might get for us? I yelled back, "She's weak," in a firm, icy tone. "Pregnancy weakens even the most resilient wolves. W

RYANThe sound of my fists pounding out the rhythm on the heavy bag echoed through the gym, with every strike ringing around the space. My arms and chest were slick with sweat, and every movement caused my muscles to ripple. Metal, labour, and the faint vestiges of my wolf's ancient might hung in the air. This was à therapy session for me and not training. Every jab and every uppercut was a comfort. I wasn't satisfied even though the punching bag swung wildly beneath my attack. I grabbed the chain, reshaped my stance, and attacked again. I was incited by every thought of betrayal and every gossiping rumour that Hailey was injured. My nurturing instinct expanded and became more bestial when I knew she was carrying my pups inside her. No one dares to encroach on her like my world does. The repeated battering of my fists was broken by Logan's yell, "Alpha," and I came out of my daze. Standing at the door as calmly as ever, his presence was, however, not to be ignored. "What's it?" I snar

HAILEYTwo months had passed since the Ryan shoot, but the memory of it lingered in my mind like a catchy earworm song. Every moment of that day was an unspoken vow between us—a raw, shocking connection that both of us could not escape. Now, as I strolled through one of Ryan's chain stores, I was just as much the woman that I had become: fierce, powerful, and unbreakable.Flora accompanied me, my fiery red hair cascading in waves down my back. My combat boots clattered off the marble floor, and my leather jacket fit loosely over her shoulder. She was a hurricane, unrepentant and flashy, and her brashness was catching with her own dark, dark black hair."See," I said, holding the thin black dress against my body, "I could do this. With some thigh-high boots, I'll have to be gorgeous."She laughed, running her fingers over the smooth fabric of a red dress. "They're already drooling over you, Hailey. You don't need the dress."I smiled, bending the dress over my arm. "That's true, but a

SELENA My lair smelt of magic and incense, with the sweet metallic tang of blood mingled with the scent of burning sage. My brew was churning in emerald and black hues as my kettle bubbled gently. In an attempt to find an explanation for the chaos that was developing within the supernatural community, I looked into the raging depths. Then, as though in reaction to what I was thinking, the soft knock reverberated throughout the cave. I screamed, "Enter," my voice resonating off the stone walls. With tentative feet and angry eyes, Marissa stepped inside. In contrast to her normally calm demeanour, she seemed dishevelled. She had apparent bruises on her perfect skin, and her energy had a raw edge that she was unable to hide. She said, "Selene," in a hoarse voice.I leaned back in my chair with my hands folded in my lap and said, 'Marissa. What do I owe the pleasure of your visit?' She paused, looking around the room as if anticipating a trap. 'You know why I'm here', she finally said sh

LOGANThe grounds groaned beneath me, the motor growled, but I hardly heard it. I was not unconscious of the cold, stinging night air whipping by. I was still unable to understand their words. "Flora was his mother." "His father was Azure." In my imagination, these phrases sounded like battle drums. Flora. My friend, my mate, the mother of my daughter and the angelic human I had loved with every fibre of my being is presently being linked to the one who almost destroyed us all? How is this even possible?. I tried to calm my beating heart, which had suddenly become unsteady, perspirations across my forehead as my knuckles repeatedly shook and the words I had heard settled and dawned on me. Years had passed since she died—gone from me, leaving only memories and an empty spot that I had never occupied. And now, suddenly, the truth was revealed. She had another living child. The son of Azure. I grind my teeth. It was an unpleasant betrayal. This information had dealt me a sudden blow, and

JACKSONI felt like the wind had been punched out of my lungs.David was Alexia's half-brother?That wasn't some irrelevant piece of information we had overlooked—that changed everything.I turned to Jermaine, my fists tightening. "Are you sure?"Jermaine's expression was serious. He tapped the parchment again. "This record is old, Jackson. There's no mistake. Azure and Alexia's mother had a child before ever meeting Alexia's father. That child was David."I ran a hand through my hair, trying to get my head around it. "So that means." My jaw clenched. "That means he's been lying to Jaden the entire time."Jermaine nodded. "Not just Jaden. All of us."I sucked in a sharp breath. "We have to tell Hailey."Jermaine hesitated. "We have to be careful how we do that. Jaden is already wound up. If we push him too hard, he'll think we're trying to manipulate him."I growled. "I don't care if he gets mad at me. This doesn't involve Jaden anymore. Alexia's involved. And if David is anything lik

His eyes lingered a little longer, searching for something he wasn't sure that he wanted to see.I had seen it before. Doubt. It was a powerful thing. A weapon. And I was a master at wielding it.I had to act quickly.I came across him near the training grounds, looking up into the branches of the trees as if in deep thought. Perfect."Deep in thought about something serious?" I joked, my tone light and cheerful.Jaden shifted restlessly, then shook his head once more. "A lot on my mind."I rested against the stone wall beside him. "Jackson and Jermaine, then?"His head whirled around. "How did you—I smiled. "Come on, Jaden. We've been friends for years. You think I don't know when something's wrong with you?"His shoulders relaxed a bit. He wanted to believe me.Good."Let me guess," I continued, looking at him. "They think I'm a thr

JADENI ran through the castle halls, my brothers' words ringing in my ears."David is not safe. You have to wake up, Jaden.""There's something not right with him. I don't trust him.""And you shouldn't either."It wasn't what they told me that unsettled me—it was the certainty in their voices. Jermaine was usually reserved, the sort who would weigh everything before he spoke, and Jackson, despite his arrogance at times, possessed a keen eye for spotting lies. But they were both wrong this time.David was okay.He had always been okay.Hadn't he?I suppressed the idea.Blending around the cutting corner, I bumped my shoulder into the chilly stone wall but barely registered.I needed air.Sliding the doors of the courtyard wide open, I entered the biting night. The sky stretched out endlessly overhead, and stars shone like lanterns in the distance. The stillness was a welcome change.Until I saw him.Waiting beside the far archway, David stood in the shadows. He wasn't pacing. He wasn

JACKSONThe minute I stepped into the castle, I knew something was off. The atmosphere here wasn't just charged—it was polluted. You could smell the hidden odour around here of great trouble brewing. It was silent, a tick below normal, but I'd been a part of the human world long enough not to miss the scent of deceptions when they hung thick in the air.Jermaine was already in the grand hall, arms folded, his face as sharp as ever."Do you feel it too?" he asked as I walked in.I nodded. "David?"Something was not right with him. It's not a suspicion, just intuition. A powerful, nagging feeling that twisted in my gut whenever I looked at him. He was too smooth, too controlled. Men like him couldn't be trusted.I'd run across my fair share of lying people in the human world—corporate vipers who grinned as they orchestrated your downfall, politicians who had spun deception into poetry. And David? The same vibe. The kind of person who took the long way around, who got you to believe him

  • CLAIMING HAILEY    CHAPTER 117: AFTERMATH

MARISSAThe castle was more subdued than normal tonight. There was an unnatural quiet that clung to the air, like the quiet before a storm. Everywhere felt tense and electrifying; pack members were scared out of their minds, and the stench of fear radiated. And I didn't appreciate it.The torches' flickering made long shadows on the floor as I approached Hailey's room, my boots softly echoing on the stone floor.Turtela walked alongside me, her strides light and smooth. She wasn't as taut as I was, but I knew she sensed it, too—the change in atmosphere, the insidious feeling of discomfort. David. The new bone of contention in the house. We can all feel how dangerous he is, but not Jaden; he trusts him explicitly even despite all warnings given.Ryan had spoken to me about him, his suspicions dark and ominous. Hailey had agreed, which wasn't typical. She was protective, but she wasn't one to judge. That alone rang alarms. Hailey would never condemn anyone without all facts in place; i

DAVID There was a perceptible weight to the air in the castle. Unease. Mistrust. It thickened with each glance that was directed at me, becoming almost tangible. Ryan kept an eye on me. He was constantly observing. As Jaden guided me around the castle, his voice full of excitement, I caught a glimpse of his golden eyes across the courtyard. The escalating conflict between his parents went unnoticed by him. Between us. "Come on," Jaden urged me to move on. "The war rooms are still hidden from you. Following the previous vampire incursion, my mother had them reinforced. His mom. I stifled a grin, maintaining a deliberately neutral expression. What was about to happen was unknown to Hailey. Neither did Jaden. As we went beneath imposing arches, the smell of steel and old parchment filled the air. Jaden babbled on about history and war tactics, but I was still focused on other things. Ryan was still suspicious and in my space. He continued to observe. A predator identifies a fellow preda

ATHENAMy body was still hurting from my run-in with that mongrel, Marissa. I had underestimated the speed of that nasty mongrel. But I am smarter than I let on. However, I had fared worse. And the only thing that mattered was survival. With the castle lights flickering behind me, I fled into the shadows of the thick woodland. They had dismissed me as if I were unimportant. Me. Athena. This is my generation's strongest witch. I suppressed the anger and allowed it to boil beneath my skin, even though the insult was more painful than the injuries on my body. Since I had a strategy. They believed they had triumphed. They believed I had lost. However, they were unaware of my abilities. Now, I had a new ally. The trees grew thicker as I moved deeper into the forest, the scent of damp earth and night-blooming flowers filling the air. I mumbled an incantation beneath my breath and felt the energy race through my veins. A tiny glimmer flared in the darkness ahead. He waited. David. Azure's s

  • CLAIMING HAILEY    CHAPTER 114: THE VISION

ISAIAHAt Dusk My chambers were illuminated by a low flame that threw the stone walls into writhing shadow. Purifying sacrifices, smoke curled in languid tendrils, bearing the faintest whisper of rosemary and sage. Tonight, however, clarity eluded me. I looked down at the relics strewn across the entire floor as I stood before the huge oak table with my hands spread against its surfaces. A basin of fetid water polluted by the ink of prophecy, bones carved with ancient symbols, and loose runes—each inscribed with a message that I strained to interpret. Something was amiss. It had been days since I first felt the unease that coiled like a snake in my stomach. Some invisible force caused the air to vibrate, a turbulence that whispered betrayal and hidden threats. Hailey had sensed it. Ryan had felt it. Logan had even said it. But the complete vision remained obscured, like a cloudy mirror that refused to clear. I closed my eyes and blew out a breath through my nose. "Show me." The room v
