Nash felt that being imprisoned was too easy for Miranda. He wanted to punish her.

"You're not stupid," Nash said mockingly, like a grim reaper delivering his final verdict. "Your life is at its end!"

"No, you can’t!" Miranda became frantic. "You can't lock me up. It's illegal! Nash, you're harming yourself by doing this!"

She feared Nash might take drastic actions. If he wouldn't let her go to prison, being locked up by him would surely be more painful. She did not want to be tortured. Prison would be preferable.

The more she thought about it, the more her heart raced. She wanted to escape.
