True colors

“I will look into it for you; don’t take tension about it. Say to me, What brought you here, and why are you crying? Is everything fine?” I questioned her, slowly rubbing my thumb on her lower lip.

“I totally forgot about it. Why didn’t you inform me about my dad’s surgery? Who gave you the right to hide it from me?” She questioned me angrily, standing up from my lap.

“Are you not happy that your father is fit and fine now?” I asked her.

“I am happy. But, you know, I am not there with them when they need me most. Why should I realize it after going back?” She asked me, and I could tell her words were not out of anger but out of sadness.

“I am happy. I am really happy that he is fine. But, you know what? Today, my mom slapped me,” she said.
