Today, Asa went to the civil bureau and when it was her turn, she received the marriage certificate and signed it. All these while, the man she was arranged to marry hadn't arrived yet. She wondered why the man had not come yet.
She just want to get this done as soon as possible. All of a sudden, she saw a hand collecting the marriage certificate from her, on looking up, she was shocked to the gut when she saw that man...that man she had a night stand with seven years ago. They really met again for the third time.
Out of anger, she spoke, "have you been stalking me, Mr? Oh? You had to appear before me again so that I can help your bride make the custom design, right?"
"Are you the woman?" The man asked her.
"What woman?"
The man looked at the picture on the marriage certificate and folded his fist hard, the cracking of the bones could be heard. He slammed the marriage certificate on the table and signed angrily then he walked out of the civi bureau.
It can't be! Is he the husband she was arranged to marry? Looking at the marriage certificate, she confirmed with his passport that was attached on it. Oh! He didn't appear before her intentionally, he wasn't stalking her, this was a pure coincidence obviously.
But... Wasn't he about to get married to his fianceé? What happened? She quickly walked out of the Civil bureau and caught up with him, he was almost at where his car was.
'Mr. Hali," she called. She had seen his name on the marriage certificate. "I'm as confused as you are, how did we become married? I thought you are planning to marry your fiancee? What happened?"
"My assistant will send you the divorce paper, you must sign it otherwise, I'll make your life miserable." He got inside his car and drove away.
She furrowed her brow in shock. But was it her fault? She immediately called her father and once the old man answered, she spoke, "father... it's impossible for me to marry that man. I know him."
"And what if you know him, my dear child? Does it change anything?" The old man asked.
"He wants divorce and I'm ready to grant him. Dad, please understand. I can't force myself on him when he clearly wants divorce plus I found out he has a woman he was already planning to marry."
"Let's talk about this at my home."
"Dad, you know I can't come there. I don't ever want your wife again." She said.
"But I do not have the strength to come to your place."
"I know. Why don't we meet at the restaurant that's not too far from the house?" She suggested.
"Okay, I'll be there as soon as I can."
After the call came to an end, Asa got inside her car and drove at once to the location of the restaurant. Surprisingly, her father was already seated there.
"Dad... he wants divorce and I must grant him." She said after she had sat.
"You already told me all these. But I guess I didn't tell you the purpose of the marriage?" The old man said, "with the marriage, you get to become something tangible in the future, I can't state it now cause the family wants us to keep it a secret. Secondly, our companies will be able to partner with their families, as you can already notice, we are at the edge of bankruptcy, I'm sick and didn't have the strength to manage our companies and it has tell a lot on them. Thirdly, I promised Biden's mother personally when he was just five years old and you were in your mother's womb that if my wife gives birth to a girl, I'll ensure she ends up as Biden's wife."
"You made this agreement when I was in the womb?"
"The unofficial agreement with Biden Hali's mother was made when you were in the womb, yes, but the official agreement was made after you were born. Our family have a lot to gain from this my dear child." The old man said.
"Dad, you can employ someone capable to manage the affairs of the company, plus declaring bankruptcy isn't the end of the world, dad. I won't marry a man that didn't want me."
"Do you want him?"
"Never. Why will I want him? I'm happy with my son. I'm happy being a single mother. I don't need a man in my life. Dad, please understand that I deserve to be happy. I can't tie myself to a man who loathes me." She said.
"That woman Biden Hali wants to marry isn't the right one for him. You are. Biden Hali once saved me from death, I owe him my favor. Please my dear child, do this for me."
When she saw that her father would keep insisting on what he wants, she stood, "father, I must leave."
The old man looked at her with a sad expression and nodded, "I love you, my sweet child."
She looked at him and responded, "I love you too dad. But my happiness will always come first." Then she walked away.
It's barely two hours that she got home that she received a visitor in person of Biden Hali's assistant, Timofel.
"Please read the divorce agreement and sign it at once," Timofel said as soon as he was in her living room. She received the divorce paper and sat, she took a pen, ready to sign when her phone suddenly rang. Seeing that it was Polina, anger rose in her bile, how dare she call her? She hadn't dare to call her in the past seven years. Ever since she caught her in bed with her husband, she didn't care if she was dead or alive.
But it's weird that she's calling her all of a sudden, out of curiosity, she answered it, "your father is dead."
"What did you say?"
"Your father is dead. He left a letter behind for you." Then she hung the call up.
Her heart ripped apart into sadness, the pen she was holding fell from her hand and tears rushed down her face. She then called her line back and when she answered, she asked, "what's in the letter?"
"Come and pick it whenever you are chanced."
"Just read the letter for me already," she said angrily.
"As you wish," Polina said and after a minute, she proceeded to read the content of the letter, "the letter reads: My sweet Asa, please give your marriage with Biden a chance for at least one year, if it didn't work out after a year, you can proceed with the divorce. From your loving father."
Timofel could sense that something was wrong yet he kept mute and hoped that Asa signed the divorce paper as soon as she can. "I can't sign the divorce papers," Asa said sadly. "What are you talking about? Do you want money? My master have more than enough, shall I write you a blank cheque?" He asked. How dare he go back to Biden Hali to report such bad news; that this woman refused to sign. "It's not about money. It's about fulfilling my dead's father wish. I won't sign." Timofel scoffed, "your dead father's wish? Did you forget my master and I, alongside his bride came to your company to get a wedding gown? Do you know how heartbroken my master's fiancée will be when she finds out that my master can't marry her again." "I am not signing this divorce paper, Mr. Timofel." She said determinedly. "In that case, I can promise you the most miserable life anyone on earth won't pray for." Timofel threatened. "Mr. Timofel, I think you should now leave my house." Timofel stood angrily
The words felt foreign on her tongue, a truth she wasn't quite sure of, yet she couldn't stop them from escaping her lips.Startled, Biden sharply pivoted towards her, his hands momentarily pausing in their labor. "What are you saying?" He queried, his tone thick with confusion.Collecting herself, Asa shook her head and expelled a long sigh, as though to physically remove the tension from her body."Who's Lev?" Biden pressed further, his eyebrows knitting together in a stern expression.Dismissing the inquiry with a flick of her hand, Asa responded, "Nevermind, I... I just forgot I wasn't at home."Biden studied her for a moment longer before turning back to his tasks. In his eyes, it seemed as though Asa was not herself. In the quiet solitude of the kitchen, where Biden had been busily preparing coffee, Asa found herself alone. Her eyes were drawn to the window, staring out with a sense of anticipation. It was past 2 pm, and Alfred was due to return, but the landscape beyond the wi
"Good morning, sir," she greeted. The CEO acknowledged her with a curt nod, his gaze never leaving the computer screen.Asa waited patiently, her collective nerves palpable in the silence. "He must be very busy," Asa mused internally. After a few long moments, the CEO finally set his computer aside. As he lifted his head and met Asa's eyes, she felt a jolt of recognition. Her heart sank as she realized that the CEO was none other than her husband, Biden. The shock left her unnerved and anxious. "My suspicions weren't wrong after all," she muttered under her breath.Biden's gaze settled on Asa, his expression unreadable but intimidating. "You?" Biden shifted his attention back to Asa, his gaze unnerving."Yes, sir," she managed to reply, struggling to keep her voice steady. She acted as if they were never married. She was still recovering from the shock of finding out he's the CEO here. The office fell into an uncomfortable silence. Asa tried to break it by clearing her throat, but
"What are you doing here?" Asa demanded, her face a mask of anger."Hey, calm down. Is that how you greet a guest?" Oleg replied, a smirk playing on his lips."I won't ask again, Oleg. What are you doing here and how did you get into my car?" Asa's voice was laced with irritation and fear."Two questions at a time, mmm, Asa," Oleg mused, drawing out her name.Asa fully turned to face him, her attention on him despite her mounting anger. His lips stretched into a grin as he continued to study her. His nonchalant demeanor only served to increase her annoyance."What do you want?" she asked, her voice thick with suppressed emotion."You know what I want, Asa. Stop playing the victim here," Oleg retorted, folding his arms across his chest. "I want my son."His words hit Asa like a physical blow. Was he serious? Was he just trying to get a reaction out of her? Alfred wasn't his son."You're joking, right?" Asa swallowed hard, struggling to keep her emotions in check."No, I'm not. And I in
Tears streamed down Asa's face as she frantically tried to call Oleg again."Hello," a voice on the other end of the line responded."Please, Oleg, where are you? Where is my son?" Her voice quivered, her pleas punctuated by sobs."I can't disclose that information to you, ma'am," the voice replied. It wasn't Oleg but one of his henchmen."Please, I need to know where my son is!" Asa pleaded."Lady, knowing where your son is won't change anything," Oleg interrupted, his voice icy."Please, Oleg..." Asa sobbed, but Oleg had already hung up.Asa wailed, her sobs echoing around her. The teachers tried to comfort her, but it was no use. Her heart felt like it was shattering into a million pieces. Her son was with Oleg, and she had no idea what she might do."Why has my life been suddenly plunged into turmoil?" Asa lamented in despair.*In a daze, Asa got back into her car and drove home, trying to clear her mind. "How am I supposed to clear my mind when my son is somewhere I don't even
Anastasia and Asa climbed into the car and set off for the bar. Greg had relayed that he had managed to procure some information regarding Alfred's whereabouts, urging them to meet him there. Their journey was brief, and upon arriving, they informed Greg of their presence.Noticing their signal, Greg approached their car. He was young, with a notably muscular build.Anastasia slid her glasses down and rolled the window down to engage with him."Good evening, Greg, what's the news? Hop into the backseat," Anastasia instructed. With a gentlemanly demeanor, Greg complied. "We're all ears," Anastasia probed, eager to hear his findings."I've pinpointed Oleg's location, and I can confirm that the child is with him, in a house. Here's the address where Oleg's holding the child." He displayed the address on his phone screen. Anastasia and Asa scanned the information attentively."If there's anything more you need, don't hesitate to contact me," Greg concluded, stepping out of the vehicle.
"Where is my son?" Asa's demand lingered in the still air, only to be met by Oleg's infuriatingly serene and almost mocking smile. His evident pleasure in her anguish was evident. Asa, once so resilient, appeared to be crumbling under the weight of her fear and vulnerability. "He's with me," Oleg responded nonchalantly. "And I don't intend to allow you to see him." At his signal, two men materialized and restrained Asa. Despite her frantic attempts to break free, they held her firm. All the while, Oleg reveled in her desperate struggle."Oleg, release her!" Anastasia's voice pierced through the silent tension like a blade. She stood her ground, her eyes hardened with determination, but the flicker of fear lurking within them was unmistakable.Oleg simply turned his head, meeting Anastasia's gaze with an insolent smile. "Oh, look who's become the defender," he taunted, a wicked glint in his eyes. With a flinch, Asa tried again to break free from the men's iron grip, her voice coming
Biden sat in the heart of his bustling office, buried under heaps of paperwork. His diligent secretary and numerous subordinates kept flowing into the room, each of them bearing new files, each document a fresh responsibility on his already burdened shoulders. His gaze was laser-focused on the documents in front of him, so engrossed was he that he didn't even notice the untouched mug of coffee beside him, its contents now cold and uninviting.Despite his strained relationship with the woman he was reluctantly sharing his life with, a sense of responsibility tugged at him. He reached out for the sleek telephone on his desk, dialing a familiar number."Hello, report to my office," he commanded succinctly, dropping the telephone back onto its cradle.Soon, his office door swung open to reveal Timofel, his trusted assistant. A meek man, who despite his reticent demeanor, carried out Biden's commands to the letter."Good morning sir, you sent for me," Timofel greeted, his eyes cast downwar
But Andrei wasn't listening. "You've given our son to that monster!" With that, he stormed out, leaving Asa devastated in his wake.He believed the boy was his own flesh and blood, and Asa was the woman from his past. His turbulent emotions rendered him silent, even when his own sister greeted him warmly. His cold demeanor was unmissable.Asa, on the other hand, simmered with frustration. She had hoped for a heartfelt reunion, an expression of gratitude. After all, she hadn't just stood by idly; she'd made sacrifices to secure his freedom. She glanced at Juliet, searching for some understanding in her friend's eyes, but found only mirrored confusion. The assistant, too, remained conspicuously silent.Juliet finally spoke, her gaze drifting to the floor, "My brother detests feeling powerless, especially in the face of defeat. By trading something so precious for his freedom, you unintentionally wounded his pride. It's a deep-seated pain for him."With a mix of determination and hope, A
Alfred's eyes widened in confusion. "Am I going back to Dad, Mom?"His mother looked at him, her eyes brimming with tears. "Yes, sweetheart. This is just a temporary exchange. I promise you, Biden won't harm you in any way. It's so I can get Andrei back." Alfred blinked hard, his little chin trembling. "Okay, Mom," he whispered.Trying to lighten the mood, Asa playfully nudged Alfred's shoulder. "Ready to go?" she asked with a brave smile.Alfred looked up. "Are you coming too, Mom?"She pulled him into a warm embrace. "I'll come with you, but I can't stay, okay?"The journey to Biden's residence was shrouded in an oppressive silence. Asa was drowning in guilt and sadness, knowing the emotional turmoil her child was undergoing.Biden awaited their arrival with a mix of eagerness and caution. As he saw Alfred, a genuine smile appeared on his face. "Look who's here, my boy!" he chuckled. To Alfred's surprise, it was the first genuine term of endearment he'd heard from Biden. Alfred's c
A tense quietude settled between them, only the faint hum of the room's air conditioner breaking the stillness."The intel came in moments ago. He's reportedly been apprehended and is currently held by Biden," the assistant whispered, a hint of unease in his voice.Asa's eyes widened in shock, "Impossible!" Her voice echoed with disbelief."I need to be there, right now," she declared, determination marking her features as she turned on her heel. The assistant reached out, his fingers grazing her arm. "You can't just waltz in there; it's treacherous."She brushed him off with a swift motion, "Biden won't harm me." She looked past him, "Come, Alfred."The assistant's voice grew firm, yet caring. "Madam, if you're hell-bent on this, at least leave the boy. It's no place for him."Asa paused, her gaze softening as she turned to Alfred. "Promise me you'll stay safe here," she murmured, planting a gentle kiss on his forehead before taking her leave.Upon reaching Biden's estate, Asa's pres
As the weight of Andrei's intentions bore down on the room, a sharp gunshot rang out. Agony lanced through Andrei's leg, sending him collapsing in pain. Biden's ace, a concealed marksman, had made his move, changing the course of their face-off.In the vast, dimly illuminated chamber of Biden's lair, an intricate dance of power and confrontation was underway. Biden, exuding an air of controlled confidence, slowly sauntered towards Andrei. Each step resonated with purpose, echoing his dominant position in this dangerous tango. With a graceful bend, he plucked the firearm that had fallen during their earlier altercation, feeling its cool weight against his skin.Lifting his gaze, he studied Andrei, whose posture, albeit weakened from the gunshot, still radiated defiance. "You know," Biden began, drawing each word out deliberately, "it's almost laughable – the audacity you've shown, believing you could penetrate the very heart of my domain, challenge my reign, and emerge victorious. Wha
The hospital room, with its stark white walls and the faint smell of antiseptics, stood in silent testimony to the myriad of emotions swirling within its confines. Shadows danced on the walls, mirroring the somber mood, while the monotonous hum of machines maintained a rhythmic undertone. Andrei, his tall frame slightly hunched from hours of anxious waiting, navigated the maze of medical equipment to approach the doctor. Each step was a testament to the storm of apprehension brewing within him, but he tried to hold onto a veneer of composure. "Doctor Harrison," he began, his voice weighed down with the heaviness of worry, "has there been any change in Asa's state? Can you provide any insights into her prognosis?"Dr. Harrison, a seasoned physician who had witnessed countless situations both triumphant and tragic, ran a weary hand through his silvering hair. "Mr. Petrov," he began, offering Andrei a sympathetic glance, "while we've managed to stabilize Asa for the moment, we're still
Then, in a turn no one could have predicted, Biden's assertive facade shattered. He crumbled to the church's cold floor, the weight of his past mistakes evident in his teary eyes. "I wronged you, Asa," he sobbed, his voice echoing in the cavernous space. "When I learned of our child, fear and pride dictated my actions. I'm behind the shadows that plagued you, the threats, the near-fatal encounters. I'm consumed by guilt and regret."The collective gasp of the congregation was palpable. As Asa processed this revelation, trying to reconcile with the Biden she once knew, Andrei, his face red with rage, took a step forward. Just as Asa opened her mouth, hoping to bring some semblance of peace, Andrei's voice, laden with fury and pain, filled the sacred space, addressing Biden's shocking confession.Amid the grandeur of the cathedral, with its soaring arches and echoing silences, the tension was palpable. Andrei, though visibly incensed, tried to maintain his composure, the muscles in his
The radiant dawn broke with promise, as the day Andrei had long dreamt of was finally upon them. The atmosphere was thick with anticipation, the air fragrant with blooming flowers, and the quaint little town buzzed with preparations. Everyone was eagerly discussing the union of Andrei and Asa, two souls destined to intertwine on this auspicious day.Inside a grand, ornate room of a historic mansion, Asa stood poised in front of an opulent mirror, its frame whispering tales of countless brides before her. She gazed at her reflection, the intricate lace of her dress cascading around her. The sheer beauty of the moment filled her with a mix of nervous excitement. Not wanting to leave any stone unturned, she turned to her trusted makeup artist, seeking validation, "Have we achieved the perfect look for today?"The makeup artist, having witnessed many brides in her time, had never seen one quite as enchanting as Asa. With a heartfelt smile, she assured, "You are the very essence of perfect
As dusk approached, their team gathered, arming themselves and going over the plan meticulously. Andrei's intense gaze met each of theirs. "Remember, I want Polina brought back to me alive and without a scratch."The chorus of affirmatives was unwavering, "Yes, sir."Venturing forth under the cloak of twilight, they took the midtown route as Karl had suggested. On arriving at the estate's perimeter, Karl consulted the map once more before proceeding. Shielding his face with a hood, leaving only his piercing eyes visible, he carefully surveyed the area. To his relief, the immediate vicinity appeared unguarded. Polina, it seemed, was tantalizingly within their grasp.Karl swiftly gestured for the boys to infiltrate the compound. However, as they moved in, they found themselves ensnared in an unexpected trap. "Stop right there!" A booming voice echoed from the shadows, causing the team to halt abruptly.Within moments, the group found themselves surrounded, caught in a tightening circle
Back at the city, "Andrei, I've done my part, helping you at great lengths. Now, it's your turn to reciprocate," Asa stated, her gaze intensely fixed on Andrei, her eyes searching for understanding.Andrei stumbled over his words, "Help? I was under the impression... I believed that you..." His voice trailed off, unable to complete the thought. She cut him off gently, "If you truly want to repay me, then help me find Polina. If you do, I'll consider your proposal."His eyes lit up with hope, "Truly? You mean it?"She took a moment, her face softening, "Yes," she whispered, though the reluctance in her tone was palpable.Overwhelmed with gratitude, Andrei pulled Asa into a warm embrace. "I'll move mountains if I have to, just to find Polina." His emotions surged, making him act on impulse, hugging Asa tighter than he had intended. Allowing herself a moment in his arms, Asa eventually withdrew to be with her son. Meanwhile, Andrei swiftly dialed his assistant, setting the wheels in mot
