Chapter 4 The Bet

Collins shifted on his feet uncomfortably, he hated being in the position he found himself at the moment. Of all person to get in an argument with, his father wasn't one he would want to have to deal with.

“You amaze me every time, Collins. I can't believe you would be this stupid. What the hell has gotten into you!" His father yelled.

Holding on to his ear like it would fall off, he moved further away from his father. He should have been smart enough to not let his father get a hold of his plan. All he needed was a little more time to get his mission completed and after that he would leave. But his father wouldn't hear of it and Collins knew he only got to know through his sister Catty.

“The bitch!” Collins muttered as he glared at her.

Catherine stood at the door of his room jesting him with her eyes. If he knew she would go that far he would have pleaded with her more. Now all of his plans were in ruins because of her.

"Now listen to me young man." His father's voice jolted him back to life, “I want you to end whatever it is holding you up here and pack your bags you are leaving for New York tomorrow. Is that clear?!”

"Yes dad." He murmured.

His father walked out the room, followed by his sister who gave him the middle finger before leaving the room. He threw his pillow against the wall angrily. He had huge plans tonight. He was supposed to win the bet tonight!

Collins checked the time and he noticed it was past nine. He hurried toward the bathroom to prepare. He couldn't believe he was late. Today was first day of class activities and also his first year anniversary with Mia. He turned on the shower with a bright smile on his face.

"He isn't here yet and his phone isn't going through. Do you think something is wrong?" Mia queried, her face creased in worry.

Mia couldn't keep calm. It was unlike Collins to not be around or have his phone on. She and Cheryl had been in the college for about an hour and they still hadn't seen him nor Bryan.

Cheryl held her by the shoulder. “Calm down babes, he might just be planning a surprise for you. Bryan isn't here either. I am sure they are planning something big.” She winked.

"Stop playing Cheryl.” Mia paused getting an idea. "You know what let's check the changing room in the basketball court he might be there." Mia suggested.

"Alright then, let's go." Cheryl agreed.

Collins peeped around the changing room as he pulled Bryan along with him. It was just the both of them and clear enough to speak without anyone eavesdropping.

"What the hell man, get your hands off me." Bryan said, yanking his hands away from him.

"I am so sorry man. I have just got something urgent to say." Collins rattled out of breath.

"What is it about?"

"You do know I was supposed to have left for New York since last week right?”

"Yeah I know, So?"

"So? Really man like you don't know what this is all about.”

"Remind me then, because I can't seem to think right."

Collins slapped his forehead in frustration. “The bet!"

All of a sudden, Bryan remembered the bet. “Oh, that's true man! So tell me what's up with it?"

"Idiot like you don't know. She hasn't given me access and dad insists I leave tomorrow. Moreover I want to make sure I win the bet with Mark. That fool would gloat in my face if I loose this bet!”

Bryan frowned as he held up his hand in the air. “Wait a minute, I thought you all were joking on our valedictory service day. Is that why you asked her out that same day?"

"Of course Bryan, why else would I ask someone as simple and nerdy as her out? She isn't really my type." Collins huffed as he pulled at his shirt.

"Man! So you never did like her all this time, you were just playing the game?"

"Don't be like this bro, forget all of this and help me out. I only have tonight to get her to give her cookie to me."

"What do you mean?"

"Goddammit Bryan! Have you lost your brain?! I need to sleep with her tonight and the bonus is..." Tuning down his voice, "She is a virgin!” He announced sounding exhausted.

Bryan stood still shocked at his friend’s revelation. "Mia would be really hurt if she finds out. She loves you so much, Collins."

Collins shrugged. “And I think I do too, maybe, I don't know. All that matters is me getting under her pants tonight. Help me bro."

"I can't do this. Cheryl would kill me. She is Mia’s best friend and I am not ready to lose my girlfriend over your game."

Collins raised his brow and folded his hands in front of him. “Oh really now, here you are acting like a saint. Does she even know you have been screwing Scarlet from the cheerleading team?”

"Shut the fuck up, Collins! Don't try to blackmail me!” Bryan gritted.

"It's no black mail, it's only tit for tat bro. And don't worry she would get over it once I am gone."

"Was fooling me all these months really worth it?" Mia asked behind them with her face swollen from tears. "Tell me, how much am I being bought over for? How much you bastard?!” Mia yelled at the top of her lungs throwing her right foot wear at Collins which he dodged.

He and Bryan had been in utmost shock when they heard her voice. She and Cheryl stood behind them looking enraged. Mia couldn't believe her ears. She had been twirling towards the basketball court feeling on top of the world like she won a jackpot. Collins was everything she wanted and they had even planned to get married after college. Just as they almost got to the entrance of the changing room, they heard some voices like an argument. She had wanted to go back not wanting to eavesdrop. However, Cheryl had pulled her back saying the voice sounded familiar like that of Bryan's, only to discover that it wasn't just him but Collins was there with him too.

"Baby, baby, wait I can explain." Collins said, holding out his hands to her. She got more pissed and threw the other pair of foot wear at him. It hit his chest this time and he cursed out in pain. “Damnit!”

"You son of a gun, I thought what we have is a real thing. You fooled me!” Mia wailed as she fell down to the floor.

Bryan looked like he could be anywhere else but where he found himself. Cheryl smirked evilly at him. "You! So you knew this all along?"

"I swear babe, I—“

"Shut the fuck up!” Cheryl cut him short with a finger to her mouth. "Don't you try to splutter any other lie of yours in my face! I can't believe you are sleeping with Scarlet too. No wonder that bitch tried messing with me every time."

“Listen babe…It's not…" Bryan tried to get close to her but she moved back.

"Don't try coming near me, Bryan cause you wouldn't like my reaction I promise you." He stopped on track while she moved farther away from him. She pulled Mia up to her feet. "It's okay love let's go home. Don't cry. This piece of shit doesn't deserve you." Cheryl spat as she eyed Collins.

"Cheryl…please wait...give me a chance to explain. It's not what you think." Bryan called out to her.

Cheryl stopped on track when she got to the door. Mia held on to the door after Cheryl told her to give her a minute. She walked up to Bryan and hit him hard on the face.

"Take that you bloody skunk!” She spat.

Bryan looked dazed, rubbing at his cheek as he watched their receding back.
