Ethan’s POV

The seeds of the unsettling feelings my mate had planted within me still had their roots deeply sunken into into my mind so I was on a stroll around the palace to clear my head instead of channeling my feelings toward something violent like I would have usually done.

I’d not walked as much as I’d have loved to before my wolf started feeling agitated within me, it felt like he was kicking within me and something was strongly bothering him.

From those telling signs, I figured out that it must be the mate bond that’s causing him to act that way and I knew that I had to find her quickly else he wouldn't calm down. I could equally tell that it meant that my mate was in distress for some reason my wolf wanted to ease her pain.

At first, I wanted to shrug it off and ignore my wolf because of how awfully our last meeting had ended, but the bond was also pulling me toward her like a magnetic force field while my wolf made things harder by not tuning down his agitation.

Layla’s POV“No.” I stretched to my full height to face him properly.“You can’t just kill Arnold because that’s the only way you know how to deal with opposition” My chest heaved up and down as I challenged him angrily.Yet despite the anger that was evident in my tone and my appearance, he looked as determined as he did when he first threatened to kill Arnold.“I can when he’s making you cry” He said in an equally pissed off tone.On seeing that, I realized that I needed to sound far more believable if I wanted to save Arnold’s life.“Besides, he wasn’t the one that made me cry as I've told you already” I swallowed as I lied with a bold face.He snorted in disbelief.“If anything, you're the cause of my tears, you and all the things you've imposed on me from the minute our paths crossed” I did a full 360 and landed back on him, because he was truly the problem.“That’s barely believable, but I commend your effort to make this all about me” He said in a mocking tone and his eyes neve

Ethan’s POVMy mate’s bun loosened and her hair bounced in my face as we rode toward the hill I was taking her to, and in that moment I realized that I didn't know her name, all my mind knew of when I saw her or thought of her was “mate”.Yet as I strangely grew fond of her, I wanted to know her as a person, not just as a she-wolf that was fated to be my mate, and it was an odd sensation.“We’re here at last” I announced and brought the horse to a halt as we reached the foot of the largest hill in all of Wandercoast.I jumped off the horse and stretched out my hand to help her get off too.“Should I be worried?” She asked as she took my hand and stepped down.“That depends, about what?” My suspicious response was met with a small frown. My face contorted in confusion at first on seeing that until I realized that she was practically spinning around to take in the deserted area we were in. The place was filled with trees, mountains and there was no one in sight even while we rode up to

Layla’s POVThe impossible had happened.I’d been in Ethan’s company and I didn't feel the urge to drag my hair out from its roots in frustration at any point. It felt unreal to me, but I couldn't deny that I’d actually enjoyed his company for the first time ever especially when I could've sworn that it’d never happen. But I shouldn't have thought so, since so many things had been happening that I thought were impossible of late.If I was already intrigued by him before, I was far more intrigued after the time we’d just spent together, and since nothing inappropriate happened, I didn't hate myself for enjoying our time spent on nature since I was naturally a sworn lover of nature and it was bound to stir up that much excitement within me.We were on our way back to the palace and the wind was caught in my hair as we rode, his hard rock chest was pressed against my back and I allowed myself lean into him slightly even though I didn't need the extra support, I was also equally resisting

Arnold’s POVThe monthly meeting in the royal court with the elders was ongoing and as much as I needed to be attentive, I couldn't bring myself to focus on the meeting since thoughts of Layla as crowded my mind since she ran out after my upsetting statement which I regretted right after it left my lips. When she left, I knew that she was upset but I was equally furious so I didn't try to go after her even though I knew that would’ve been the right thing to do. But I was aware that I’d have lashed out at her even more if I went after her instead of begging for forgiveness, and it was all because the memory flashes of Ethan’s head buried between her legs kept torturing me.Still, I didn't love her any less, I just hated him a million times more for touching her in ways that only I should. It had taken me a long while to catch my breath and feel sane, but I finally did and immediately went to find her while I frantically rehearsed how I’d apologize profusely and find a way to pacify her

Arnold’s POVMy face was burning with rage, and it seemed like everything was a blur as I left the crashed meeting, I wanted to uproot the floor underneath me and tear the walls around me down, it was a type of rage I’d never felt before, one that replaced the blood in my veins and made me feel like I was drowning in anger. There was also the nagging feeling in my guts that made it seem like something was about to explode from within me, it was like an aggressive force that was bubbling within me and stirring my anger to lengths it had never reached, a force that was fighting to take over my being instead of seeking control like it felt when my wolf wanted to shift. But I refused to dwell on it because I had more important things worth worry about, like the fact that I asked Hera to place a deadly curse on Ethan and I hadn't seen it manifesting yet since he was hale and hearty enough to barge into the meeting and humiliate me before the elders. An act that Hera’s ungrateful power drun

Hera’s POVArnold might’ve left in a fit of rage but I was elated because I’d finally convinced him that Layla was a witch and planted seeds in his heart against her by informing him of her tendency to bring doom upon us all.But even more, I was glad that Aaron had finally put himself to use by becoming one of Ethan’s trusted soldiers especially because it’d taken so much convincing to make him for for it. I’d soon be reaping the rewards of my hard work of scheming to get both Arnold and Ethan on my fingertips.Speaking of rewards, I made a mental note to give Aaron his for succeeding in the first phase of my plan to have Ethan wrapped around my fingers. The timid girl that turned red and couldn't bear to use curse words? My goddess of purity and innocence that couldn't hurt a hair on anyone's head had a prophesy of doom hovering around her? Everything seemed too much for me handle when I was already at a dead end with overthrowing Ethan. In the end, I loved Layla more than life itself so I’d still be willing to accept her as a witch over time. But what bothered me even more was the fact that Ethan’s curse was meant for me and it was wrongfully imposed on him because of my father’s greed and cruelty. Layla’s POV“If you stare at that dress any longer, you’ll burn it to the ground with your gaze” Nadia nagged me as I took one last glance at my wedding dress while I stood at the bathroom door, I was obsessed with it.Beyond obsessed, It’s beauty had become an extra body part of mine.“At least we’d die watching its beautiful flames ascend to the heavens,” I smiled dreamily while still staring at it with lost eyes.“Be fucking for real?” She laughed before she grabbed a button off the dresser and threw it me, luckily I was able to dodge it and if I hadn't it’d have hit my eyes.“You’d explain to Ethan in detail why his bride is walking down the aisle with just one eye” I picked the button up and threw it at her, and it landed on her feet.“If you're not ready in the next hour, there’ll be no bride to scrutinize while she walks down the aisle, I promise you” She shot me a glare just before she took a seat on my bed, pulling her own dress in her lap to admire it.“What? Layla’s POVI’d known Joy several times in my life, but the joy I felt as I confirmed that Ethan was real and he’d returned to me was boundless, it felt like an unreal wave of happiness had been injected into my bloodstream and life finally felt worth living again.Like the war was over, and the battle line had been erased, it was surreal.“Are you going to keep staring at me like I'm a ghost?” Ethan laughed as he continued to massage my sore joints.“You might as well be” I reached out and cupped his cheek, yearning to remain in contact with him so he wouldn't disappear into thin air.“Well, I'm real and I'm here, forever this time around” He suddenly pulled me off the bed and onto his laps and I laughed as a yelp left my lips in surprise.“So you can stop staring at me with those alluring orbs of yours” He pulled my face toward him and kissed my forehead, not the quick kind that would pass as a peck, this one lingered like he was trying to touch my soul through physical touch.God,
