Janice’s mind raced as she tried to make sense of what had just happened. I had always been full of surprises, but this—this was something else entirely.

I knew my sister and everything was on her face. She couldn’t hide anything.

Jake stood beside me, tall and confident, with an air of nonchalance that matched her own. His eyes swept the room with a subtle smirk, clearly aware of the bombshell he had just walked into.

His arm was still draped over my shoulder in that familiar, possessive way, and it was clear from our body language that this was no casual introduction. This was calculated. This was deliberate.
