2— He's a brat

Everything is all changing in a day. Life has never been funny. Just yesterday I travelled back to California and now I was on my way to the court house where I'd be getting married.

Again. To an unknown Billionaire. Oh, Cora, how'd you even get here? I was so happy to finally see Ariana. If only I knew what awaited me was that.

But even so, could I have said no? I would still have done something — especially with the situation mum got herself in.

And the car finally put to a stop and before I could try to open it, the driver who also appeared like a bodyguard rushed to open the door to my surprise.

“Be careful,” mum whispered beside me as I tried to get down the car and I rolled my eyes. The long damned white dress that I was in made me uncomfortable. Apart from the fact that it made me look innocent and too cool, it made me feel weird.

That wasn't my style. I liked to look elegant and sophisticated and not like a damn princess. Looking like a princess was for Ari. Oh my sister, I hope she's okay.

“We'll lead you in,” the guard gave a bow, catching me by surprise but I simply followed.

“Oh my god, I'm so happy. It's my dream to see you getting wedded,” mum chirped behind me until we reached the hall filled with around 5 people.

“Oh my dear,” a voice said behind me and turning, I met the youngest adult face I've ever seen. Glowing and looking very bright. “My dear —”

“Cora,” mum filled in for her as she reached us and we maintained eye contact.

“I am Mrs Logan. The mother of your groom.”

“I see,” irritation almost clouded my voice. Mum told me she was the one who reached out to her about the wedding. We're in the 21st century and throughout my 26 years of living I didn't know such things still happened.

But I guess everything weird started with me.

“Good day,” I gave a light bow but she caught my head almost immediately.

“Don't bother. She's so gorgeous,” her face spread into a wide grin as she stared at mum, “I'm impressed by her beauty.”

And the moment the words came out of her mouth, every ideology of her that I had in my head dissipated. The warmth in her voice was unmissable.

“Thank you,” a genuine smile crossed my lips before I glanced around, waiting for my so-called groom. I was in fear of what he'd be. Maybe he'd be an old billionaire, but with his gorgeous mum standing in front of us, I bet my groom should would be young.

But what difference would it make?

“Oh you're searching for Calvin, he will soon be here,” Mrs Logan smiled before she took my hand, “Keep calling your brother!” She screamed to one of the ladies seated.

“You have hands too!” The lady screamed back and Mrs Logan only shook her head.

“Come on, let's sign the papers necessary,” Mrs Logan took my hand and I followed, my eyes taking in my surroundings.

One hour passed as I kept reading and signing different pages of contract. Mrs Logan only wanted me to just sign but with my past experiences, I had to read every goddamn sentence and thankfully, she let me read them without any issue.

I already read it in the contract paper mum gave me. The contract marriage was happening for 5 months and then I was allowed to leave. Good.

Opening a page, I paused at the content. It was only for show. Only the internet. Good. At home, I don't have to be touchy with him.

Great. And then I imputed my signature on the last page.

“Done.”

“You don't have an issue with anything right?”

“No, not all,” I replied mum. Exactly what I want. I was only getting married for the money mum would be getting. I couldn't be happier about the rules.

“I'm leaving, I can't keep waiting around,” the earlier feminine voice said as she walked past us and Mrs Logan turned to her.

“It's your brother's wedding!”

“He's taking too long and after all, it's fake,” she screamed as she exited the door and Mrs Logan gasped.

“She's a brat!” She cussed under her breath before reaching for her phone and dialed the number of my supposed groom. “Calvin, where the hell are you?”

“About to get into my car,” the calm, unbothered voice resonated on the phone and I paused. He's not on his way yet?

“Calvin!”

“I had some unfinished business. I'll soon be there,” he said and then the line went dead and the woman sighed frustratedly.

“I'm sorry he's coming late.”

“It's okay,” I shrugged. It wasn't her fault. It was her son's fault. And soon enough, I'll be telling him that. Nobody keeps me waiting. Especially when the goddamn wedding was their idea.

Another 30 minutes passed by before I heard the clicks of shoes and at once I raised my head to see bodyguards just like the one that brought us to the courthouse.

And then at the door, they stopped and bowed and a figure walked in and at once, a spicy fragrance filled the air. Dressed in a black blazer. Hair brushed backwards and standing burly in his dress, my eyes almost bulged out.

“He's here,” Mrs Logan breathed and stood and I did too as the creature walked towards us, all sturdy.

That was him. Calvin. My to-be-husband. Him being all fit was wild and the wildest thing happening was that I had my mouth agape.

“I'm here.”

“You're late.” Mrs Logan spoke at once.

“I know,” he shrugged before whipping his head to me and our eyes met but he simply looked away, “Come on, let's go seal the marriage.”

And then he turned, heading towards the altar while I remained glued to my spot. No apology? He came late and gave no damn apology? Oh goodness, how rude.

And at once I was stomping after him, “Really?” My voice was so firm that he paused in his steps and turned to me.

“What?”

“No apology for your lateness?”

Our eyes met while I simply returned his gaze that moved from my head down to my toe, and then he scoffed.

“Do you want to go on with this marriage or not?”

“Not until you do what's needed,” I stated and he exhaled and then to my surprise, he turned to his mum who had her lips agape and face in confusion, and muttered the unimaginable.

“What's all this, Aurelia? I thought you said she'd be humble considering her background.”
