“What about Grandpa, Uncle Sebastian, and Uncle Adam? Aren't we going to see them?” Aerial asked, her excitement palpable. She was lively and extroverted, a stark contrast to her more reserved brother, Aaron.

Avery stayed silent. Since she left, she hadn’t seen her brothers or father. Although Adam and Sebastian called occasionally, she hadn’t heard from Fredrick at all. She had tried reaching out, but he wouldn’t answer. Would he accept her back now that she had kids and no husband?

Only Tobias had visited more than a couple of times since she had delivered her twins.

“We’re going to see everyone, Angel, but let’s get you inside first,” Tobias said, parking the car in the lot.

Avery took the kids inside, and Tobias followed, carrying two boxes.

As soon as she opened the door, the sound of a fake gunshot erupted.

“Welcome home, princess!” Adam shouted.

Sebastian and Lucy rushed forward, enveloping Avery and the kids in warm hugs.

Avery stood frozen, overwhelmed with surprise.

“How did it go?” Lucy asked Avery as she slumped into the chair, fatigue etched across her face.“Everything is under control,” Avery replied, taking a deep breath. “He’s suffering from endocarditis. His valves are seriously damaged, and he needs a replacement.”“That doesn’t sound good,” Lucy said, concern deepening in her eyes.“Yeah, it’s serious. But we can only give it our best shot,” Avery said, trying to sound more optimistic than she felt.“When did you schedule the surgery?” Lucy inquired, leaning forward.“As soon as we find a donor. His father is already making some contacts. Hopefully, in two or three weeks, something will come up,” Avery explained, running a hand through her hair.“I pray it works out,” Lucy said softly, placing a reassuring hand on Avery’s.“Where are the kids? Have they gone to bed?” Avery asked, changing the subject slightly to ease her mind.“They’re still with your father. Adam has been giving them a tour, and they’ve refused to come home,” Lucy chuc

“Are you okay?” Lucy asked, pulling Avery from her thoughts.“You seem lost in thought.”“I’m just thinking about the past,” Avery admitted.“It feels like a lifetime ago, but it’s still so close.”“Facing it is the only way to move forward,” Lucy said, her voice warm with understanding.“You’re stronger than you think, Avery. And you have so much support around you now.”Avery smiled, grateful for her friend’s encouragement.“Thanks, Lucy. I don’t know what I would do without you.”A few moments later, their food arrived, and they dug in, the comforting aromas lifting Avery’s spirits. They chatted about lighter topics, from Lucy’s reunion with Tobias and upcoming plans to the kids’ antics, and slowly, the weight on Avery’s shoulders was lifted.“Do you remember when you and Tobias used to fight each other?” Avery said, reminiscing.Lucy laughed.“Of course! How can I forget what that bullhead made me go through, actually I still don’t believe he asked me out and he had been so sweet

Currie was already settled when Avery walked into the little café.It was an old café where Avery and Currie used to rest after shopping together. The smell of freshly brewed coffee filled Avery’s nostrils as she scanned the room for Currie. She spotted her at their usual seat in the back, beside a large glass window that offered a beautiful view of the city.Smiling as she approached, Avery felt a warmth spread through her. Before she could take her favorite seat, Currie pulled her into her arms.“Sister Nuu, is this really you? I can't believe I get to see you again after such a long time. You look gorgeous—it's a shame my brother didn’t notice!”“I missed you, Sister Nuu,” Currie said, her voice filled with affection.“I missed you too, Currie, and I’m so glad to see you,” Avery replied, beaming with joy.“Look at you, all grown up and beautiful! You’re truly stunning,” Avery said, pulling Currie into a tight hug. Back at Skylar Villa, Avery had treasured Currie, who had taken on t

Avery was speechless. How could this be possible? Despite spending more than eleven months with Abel, he had never stepped foot in her room. Even on the days when she was sick and needed his attention, it was Elijah who Abel instructed to take her to the hospital. Why does he change suddenly and focus on her memory?“Currie, you’re overthinking this. Abel is probably just reflecting on how Riana betrayed him and not about me,” she said.Currie shook her head in disapproval. “Elijah once caught him weeping, his face buried in your clothes, mumbling your name and asking for your forgiveness. It’s a shame he realized how beautiful and dedicated wife you are when it was too late. Please, sister Nuu, I’m not asking you to return to him, but if you forgive him, you’ll give him a reason to live again. He misses you so much and genuinely wishes to earn your forgiveness. He built a free hospital in the village where you and Mary lived, and he named it after you. He even put your portrait in

“I want to look like this man in my birthday pictures,” Aaron declared, shoving the magazine onto Lucy's lap.For the past week, Lucy and Avery had been planning the kids' birthday party. Avery preferred a low-key celebration for the kids' safety; she didn’t want too many people to know about them and ask questions. However, Aaron and Aerial had other ideas. They wanted television and radio stations to cover the event so their friends in New York would hear about it and know they had a large family.Lucy glanced at the magazine and saw the handsome face of the man she secretly admired. He was the only man she believed deserved her sweet friend Avery, despite the other options available. After witnessing how he selflessly saved Avery on her birthday night, Lucy was convinced that Abel genuinely loved her.Abel was dressed in a royal blue suit with a white shirt. His suit was unbuttoned, hands in his pockets, with one leg propped against the wall. His deep brown eyes stared intently at

At the tall building of Copper’s Tech, Aaron craned his tiny neck and stared at the bold billboard bearing the company’s name: “Copper’s Tech and Digital World.” A smile plastered on his handsome face as he walked into the building.Stopping at the front desk, he saw a beautiful woman in her mid-twenties.“Hello, little one. Are you looking for someone?” the woman asked.Aaron nodded.“I want to see my daddy.”“Your Daddy? What’s his name?”“Abel Copper.”The woman furrowed her brow, and her expression turned serious.“Little one, this isn’t a place for games. Now, go back to your mama.”With a determined posture, Aaron shoved his tiny hands deep into his pockets and leaned over the desk.“If you want to keep your job, take me to my father right away.”The young woman was hesitant, confusion washing over her.Abel had no child, but this little boy was insisting he was his son. Could it be that he had a secret child? Most successful men kept their relationship private, and she didn’t w

Aaron spotted Abel's cold eyes and quickly ducked behind the door.Abel stood up and moved toward that direction, startling Jason with his sudden action. When Abel swung the door wide open, the boy had vanished."What’s going on?" Jason asked."I thought I saw some movement.""It was the boy. I’ll get him."Jason entered his office, but Aaron was nowhere to be found. After searching the entire room, he returned, confused and disappointed."You scared him off. Now you've missed the chance to meet your son.""I don’t have a son!" Abel snapped, his voice icy.Suddenly, a memory flashed in his mind, making him halt."Get the boy now!" Abel shouted, startling Jason."What’s with the urgency to see him?""If you don’t find that boy in 24 hours, consider yourself fired!"Cold sweat trickled down Jason's forehead as he glared at his boss. Though Abel was a friend, he knew to take that tone seriously."I'll go find him right away," Jason replied, rushing out.Why did Abel sound so desperate?

“Where is the boy?” Abel asked Jason as he entered his office.“I’m sorry; he disappeared before I could come out.”“Then pack up and leave my company because you’re fired.”Jason was taken aback. Did Abel mean that?“But I…”“I don’t want to hear any excuses; you’re fired.”“No, I’m not. You said I had 24 hours; it’s only been a few minutes. I’ll find the boy. I will.”“Then get going.”As Jason left Abel’s office, he remembered something. The boy had introduced himself as Aaron Clinton. That might be a good place to start. He quickly searched his phone, and the boy’s information popped up.Aaron Clinton, 4 years old. A student at Lillie Light Academy, New York City.Jason was puzzled. If the boy was from New York City, what was he doing on Mallory Avenue? And hadn’t he claimed to be Abel’s son? Did Abel have an affair during one of his trips to New York?Jason dialed a number, and within a minute, someone answered.“Please, I need you to look up someone for me. I’ll send you the det

Last night, when she had asked Avery about the kids’ father, Avery had been hesitant to answer. And now, Aaron and Aerial thought she knew who their father was. Currie thought for a moment, lowered her voice, and said softly,"Do you want my brother to be your daddy?"Her eyes stayed fixed on the kids, searching their expressions.Aerial's eyes lit up, excitement shining in her face."Of course, I want him to be our daddy!" Aerial exclaimed. "He would protect us, right?"Aaron, calmer than his sister, nodded and asked, "Will you help us?"Sometimes, Aerial wondered how her brother managed to stay so composed no matter what.Currie hesitated briefly before offering a compromise."Why don't we go to the park first? We'll talk about this later.""Are you going to buy us ice cream?" Aerial asked eagerly."Of course, I will.""But Mom says it's not good to eat too much sugar.""I h

“Is that so, Grandpa? Did you truly make things difficult for Elijah? Don’t be difficult, old boy.” Currie patted Bennett’s back.“Don’t you want to play with your grandson instead? Come on, Grandpa, stop crying; let’s go and play.” Aaron pulled Bennett out of the chair, gently leading him toward his room upstairs.“He doesn’t want to play with me,” Aerial mumbled.Currie smiled warmly. “Come on, Aerial. He loves you and wants to play with you, too. Let’s go to the kitchen, I’m sure Elijah has something to lighten your mood,” she said, guiding Aerial to the kitchen. As they walked away, Currie couldn’t help but wonder How these kids even knew about Old Bennett.****Inside Bennett’s room, Aaron pulled a picture out of his pocket and handed it to the old man. “Don’t worry about the kids, Avery; I can take care of them,” Currie said the next morning after Avery received an emergency call from the hospital.Avery glanced at Currie, her expression softening as she touched her shoulder tenderly.“I didn’t know I would be needed at the hospital today. I don’t usually work on weekends.”“It’s all right. Besides, I needed the distraction.”“Thank you so much, Currie. I’m grateful. Please, if they bother you, don’t hesitate to call me.”“Focus on your work. We’ll be fine.”Avery smiled, hugged Currie, and headed for the door.“Avery!” Currie called just as she was about to leave.“Yes?”“Can I take the kids to the park?”“Sure, that would be great. I’m sure they’ll love it. Thank you so much, Currie.”“It’s nothing. Have a nice day.”Avery smiled again and left the house. As she got into her car, Avery couldn’t help but reflect on her current situation. She knew she needed to find a nanny fast. “Sister Nuu, were you pregnant for my brother before both of you divorced?” Currie asked, her voice curious yet cautious.Avery smiled nonchalantly and waved Currie away.“How can that be possible, Currie? Your brother divorced me the same day I was released. Could he have possibly impregnated me in prison?”Avery appeared calm and unfazed as she continued.“When I was married to your brother, had he ever considered me his wife? He wouldn’t even let me sleep on the same bed with him or stay in his room. So, tell me, do you think such a man would ever stand to see me naked, let alone father my children? Besides, he never stepped foot in my room.”Currie was shocked. She knew things weren’t going well between Avery and her brother, but she had never imagined it was this bad. What was wrong with Abel? How couldn’t he see Avery’s impeccable beauty? Why wouldn’t he appreciate her gorgeous body? Even as a woman, Currie saw Avery as an incredibly attractive person. She had watched other men

As soon as Avery settled behind the wheel with Currie beside her, she clasped the steering wheel tightly, her eyes wide with shock.“Did I just hit Axel?” she wondered. All her life, Avery had never used force against anyone, not even in self-defense classes. But Axel had left her with no other choice. She couldn’t let him take Currie away. She glanced over at Currie, noticing her friend was visibly trembling. Avery could almost hear her heart racing. She calmly placed her hand on Currie’s.“It’s all right, Currie. He’s gone now. I’ll take you home.”“Can you take me with you, Sister Nuu? I don’t want to go back home. I’m not ready to face Grandpa and Abel.”For Currie, Abel’s house had become her refuge, a place she saw as home. She avoided mentioning her father’s house, as did many others in their circle. Even Godwin was no longer comfortable with Nora, who had changed since Riana went to jail.“Please, let me spend the night at your place,” Currie pleaded.Avery thought for a momen

“Sister Nuu!” Currie called out from behind, unaware of the tense scene unfolding. She approached with a bright smile, holding two martinis, one in each hand.Axel’s eyes narrowed as he spotted her. In a swift, vicious movement, he grabbed her by the neck, pressing the knife close to her skin. Currie’s expression shifted from joy to terror as her hands trembled, the glasses slipping from her grip and shattering on the floor. But with the loud music blaring in the bar, no one noticed the broken glass and the crowd remained absorbed in their worlds, oblivious to the danger just feet away.Axel tightened his hold, leaning close to Currie’s ear with a sickly sweet grin as if they were just two lovers sharing a secret. “Smile, darling,” he whispered. “We don’t want to draw attention, do we?”Currie’s heart raced, but she forced a terrified smile, desperate not to make things worse. Axel gave her a rough shove, guiding her toward the door, their struggle hidden under the guise of a friendl

By the time Avery reached the cafe, Currie had called her over twenty times. “Are you trying to drain my battery with all these calls?” Avery said, sinking into the chair across from Currie.“Sis Nuu, don’t blame me. My heart is broken. Axel and I were supposed to be on our honeymoon in Mexico, but he ruined everything. I don’t know what to do with myself. The coffee here isn’t strong enough. Can we go to the bar across the road and grab a drink? Just a bottle?” Avery hesitated. “Currie, I don’t have the strength to carry a drunk woman. Why don’t you go home and rest instead?” “All I’ve done at home is stare at my wedding dress and cry. I’ll just keep watching it and crying some more. I don’t know what else to do. Please, just buy the bottle. We’ll be out of there quickly.” Seeing how crushed Currie was, Avery relented. “All right, one glass, and then we leave,” she said. Avery hated drinking alone at a bar, especially without any male company. This would be the first time
