Later, during the ride home, Brook kept waiting for her father to say how they shouldn't have done what they did and that it would never happen again, but he didn't say anything. She was worried about whatever he might be thinking.

"Dad? Do you still love me?" she asked out of the blue.

Tom looked at her in shock and pulled the car over the first chance he had. He took her face in his hands.

"Baby, I love you more than anything in this world, and I hope you never forget that."

Brook felt relieved. Not that she didn't think her father had stopped loving her, but she was afraid he might feel angry or awkward. He kissed her for a long time and she started to believe that they would always be happy, even if their love would have to be a secret one.

Later that night, Brook lay in bed restless and unable to sleep. She'd spent the longest time just tossing and turning while her outing with her father kept running through her mind.
