The moment I slipped into the kitchen, my gaze clashed with Taide’s.

I saw him leaning against the counter with a troubled look on his face. His hands were folded across his chest and his fingers drummed against his bicep, his gaze was fixed on nothing in particular, but that didn’t make it any less intense.

I briefly wondered if he truly was avoiding his father, but it was a fleeting thought that immediately became overridden by the urge to not be in the space with him, alone.

His eyes finally moved away from that blank space and over to me, still as empty as they were a moment ago. I kept my shoulder straight, trying to not let it show that he intimidated me a lot more than he should.

I expected him to look away after a while, but Taide’s stare held. I turned away and set the bags down on the table, struggling to ignore his eyes following my every move.

I quickly left to get another bag while I braced myself to get ready for his undivided attention once more. I fi
