Turning the Tables

Running down the basement hallways with my brothers shouting Renee’s name, I switched on the light. Spotting an open door, relief flooded through me as I sprinted toward the room.

Breathing restlessly, I turned on the switch that brightened the darkened room. My heart sank into my stomach when I saw that the room was empty except for cans of spilled paint that were on the ground.

Someone was here. Renee.

Lennox and Louis rushed in, distress written on their faces. “This is the last room in the basement and she isn’t here” Worry was laced in Louis’s voice.

Lennox groaned and in the next minute, he buried his fist on the wall, creating a dent in it. “I knew that girl called Erin couldn’t be trusted. She lied to us”

My fingers squeezed into folds while rage pulsated through my veins. I couldn’t believe that I decided to show my calm side to Erin just for her to lie to me.

I scoffed, totally at a loss for words to say. If Renee wasn’t here, then where was she at?
