Neal Porter leaped up onto the wooden deck of his cabin, his sleek fox scampering over the wooden planks as he scurried away from the dark gray coyote chasing him, his claws slipping on the wood planks before he found purchase. For the last thirty minutes, he dipped under fallen branches, leaped over stumps and through piles of fallen leaves, weaved around birch, oak, and pines in a mad effort to pull ahead of the larger predator, but the coyote remained relentless. The early night cast shadows on the ground, and Neal tried to remain in them as much as possible, using his smaller size to get lost in the darkness. However, a bright red fox stands out no matter what, and the coyote was only a short distance behind him.

Neal leaped into the air over the front steps, hoping to get under the porch and out of reach, but the coyote stayed right behind him, so close that Neal could hear the animal's heavy breathing. He chanced a glance back, just as the larger animal leaped into the air after him. The fox gave a yelp of surprise and turned back around, digging deep down for that extra burst of speed as his claws gouged the wood, propelling him forward.

The coyote shifted, paws becoming hands and feet, limbs turning into legs and arms, as the dark gray fur shifted into long, dark hair. The woman snatched Neal in mid-air, wrapping her hands around his tiny, furry body, and tucking him under her arm and against her naked flesh. "Got you!" she screamed as they hit the ground hard, rolling, her body protecting him as they slid along the grassy front yard.

They both panted as they laid there, her arms wrapped around his slick body as he laid his muzzle along her breasts. He could feel her heartbeat as he sprawled on top of her.

After a couple of minutes, Neal shifted, sliding to the woman's side, his arms wrapping around the woman's lithe body as soon as they transformed and pulling her tight against him. Their breathing still came out in ragged pants from their exertion, and Neal felt his heart pounding in his ears. "I guess it's my turn to cook dinner, then," he said as he laid there, wrapped around Tina Barrett and gazing up into the stars. "I should have remained in that hollowed-out log. You never would have found me, then."

She grinned over at him. "And then we wouldn't be lying here like this, our bodies all exposed and rubbing against each other in all the best ways." She slid a hand down his torso toward his cock. "What's the fun in that?" She rolled over, kissing the side of his face as she stroked his flaccid manhood to life. "I happen to like these little games of ours. They get me feeling all randy and naughty."

Neal couldn't help but grin, as well. "So do I. It's great being able to run around in our natural forms without worrying about who will see us or get upset." He glanced over at her as the evening breeze caressed his flesh. "Saves on laundry, too."

She giggled as she gripped his thick cock even harder, her finger grazing the head and sending tremors through his body. "And we can enjoy each other's bodies outdoors, just as our animals would." She leaned over and kissed him again, running her tongue lightly across the side of his face. "Now you see why Bane is pushing for this to be a total shifter community. The humans can't handle this type of freedom and openness. They're still hung up on their old traditions and morals."

Neal squirmed slightly under her, her words a common mantra as of late, one he grew tired of hearing, but couldn't really disagree with her. Neal knew he was the alpha of Bull Creek as well as Tina's mate, but Bane Kastner was the alpha of her pack, and she seemed more in tune with his wishes than Neal's. "That's not what the Paranormal Council wanted when they took over this area and sent me out here. They saw it as a haven for all people: shifters, vampires, humans, and witches, any paranormal creature who needed to get away from the world." He glanced over into her dark eyes. "Bull Creek isn't just for shifters, no matter what Bane hopes."

"The Paranormal Council isn't here," she said, still stroking him and kissing his ear. "You're the alpha of Bull Creek. You get to decide who stays and who goes. You make the rules. That's what alphas do." She glided her hand slowly up and down on his throbbing cock. "Don't you like this, being outside, my hand stroking you without worry?"

He groaned as he shoved his hip slightly upward into her grip even more, his cock growing harder in her hand. "Yes," he admitted with a moan. He couldn't deny the thrill of sex out in the open. "But, the Council has already written the main rules down. It's my job to enforce them, not change them. They exist to protect everyone."

Tina rolled over on top of him, her hands going to his shoulders as she slid back and forth onto his hardness. She bit her lower lip as she glanced down at him, her eyes glazed over with her lust. He could still see the mate mark on her shoulder from where he took her just a few short weeks ago, making her his and vice versa. They were destined mates, bonded for life in a way that trumped normal marriages, trumped even Bane as her alpha, and Neal didn't regret that at all. However, ever since, it seemed as if she tried hard to get him to follow her, instead of lead her. The witches had already left the small community, Marilyn Bowman being the last to leave, tired of being harassed by the coyotes and hyenas. He knew Bane instigated it, strove to drive the human population out of the area, making Bull Creek solely a shifter paradise. What the alpha of the coyotes planned on doing with the vampires, Neal wasn't sure, yet, but he knew there had to be a plan in place, a plan he needed to discover and stop. The humans may have been weaker, unable to stand against the rugged, primal nature of Bull Creek, but the vampires had no such hindrance.

Tina bounced her eyebrows at him as she reached down, gripping his manhood, and guiding him inside of her wetness. "This is how we were meant to be, Neal," she said, her voice husky with her passion. "Naked, outdoors, the wind against our bodies as we savor the pleasures of our flesh. Do you really want to give this up? Sacrifice this for the prudish ways of humans?"

She continued to ride him, her eyes closed as she spoke, reminding him of the ways of their animals, the desires of their mating. He held her hips, watched as her naked form slid back and forth, grinding on him, her breasts swaying slightly, until he witnessed her mouth pop open in a silent O, her eyes opening as she clutched his shoulders, gasping as her orgasm crashed through her. She froze, his cock buried deep inside of her, her body shaking from her climax until he watched her relax, her ample breasts rising and falling with her heavy breathing. She grinned down at him, again biting her lower lip. "I don't want to give this up."

"No," he said, his own breathing heavy. "No, I can see why you wouldn't." But that wasn't the mission of Bull Creek; that wasn't why the Council sent him to be the community's alpha. Of course, sexual freedom was a great side benefit.

No, that wasn't the true vision for Bull Creek. He ran his hand over her naked hip, staring into her eyes. But, Tina was his mate, and he would give her the world if he could; he'd even give her Bull Creek.

Dimitri stepped into Shades, ready to drink his troubles away, the smell of beer and the loud raucous din of several conversations competing with each other, assaulting his senses. The entire drive over, he kept replaying the audacity of his father's comments, Dimitri's anger still hot. He couldn't believe his father had been so cold and callus when it came to his children's futures. Standing up for the family was one thing, helping out and pitching in another, but sacrificing your entire future for the family pushed that line a little too far. Dimitri would not sit still and allow his father to bulldoze over his life, like he did to the eldest Everest sibling. Fitz surrendered his destined mate for his father's ambitions without even putting up a fight. It wasn't right. Their father demanded too much.Sliding onto a barstool, shoulders slumped, Dimitri motioned for Drey Hawkins to pour him a whiskey. "Thanks for the text," Josh Rayburn said as he slid onto the stool beside Dimitri, h

Neal held the door open for Tina at Gracie's Diner, just as a loud shattering of ceramic ripped the air from inside the small cafe. He forced his way into the diner and past several customers, Tina right behind him, as he tried to discover what happened. As soon as he managed to shove a path through the onlookers, he saw Alanna Bradbury standing over one of Bane's men, her hand around his throat as she pressed him down on the table she had apparently just dumped him on. By the look in her eyes, the wolf inside of her was the one about to shred the man's throat."Alanna!" Neal yelled as he moved to her side, grabbing her arm and trying to force her off the other man before she shifted and caused even more of a scene. He had no idea what the guy's name was or why the redheaded wolf shifter was ready to kill the man, but Neal wasn't about to tolerate this type of madness in his town. "Get off him!"Alanna turned to face him, her eyes holding the hunger of a predator ready to make the kill

Agatha sat on the barstool, sipping a glass of merlot as she recited her story to Jed, still not believing the phone call she received earlier today. "Marilyn Bowman was the last witch in Bull Creek. They're all gone now, and she says none of them plan on returning, not while Neal Porter is the alpha. She's already made plans to move to St. Augustine." Agatha lifted her glass and took a small sip, the frustration of being so far away and unable to do anything to help the other witches filling her. It was only three in the afternoon, and usually she'd be drinking tea on her porch, but after Marilyn's phone call, Agatha needed something a little stronger. She also needed advice from other leaders of the community. "What is Neal thinking by driving away the witches? They're a great asset to the defense of Bull Creek."Jerah Hale, alpha of the bear tribes in Draven Falls, spun his beer on the bar's surface as he shook his head of thick red hair. "From what I've heard from Alanna Bradbury,

Dimitri Everest knocked on the thick mahogany door before entering. The back room at Shades belonged to the Paranormal Council, and one just didn't barge in without permission unless he wanted their head handed to them. Dimitri wasn't sure how Jed explained the secret room to the humans who frequented Shades, but no human, except perhaps Gavin Covington, had ever made it past the door to see what was on the other side. Dimitri heard the click of the door being opened, admitting him, but no one stood on the other side. Dimitri took a deep breath as the tingle of magic raised the hairs on his arms as he slipped through the open doorway. The door closed on its own just as it had opened as soon as he stood inside.Sconces on the walls flickered flame light, casting dark shadows on the walls and floor, but still brought enough light that he could see the three people sitting at the round council table taking up the middle of the room: Talquin, the alpha of the vampires, Agatha Rochester, wh

"You'd actually leave Draven Falls?" Josh Rayburn asked as he lifted his beer to his lips. As soon as the two left the paper mill, they headed back to Josh's place, avoiding Shades and prying ears, as Dimitri told his friend about the meeting he sat through last night with the Paranormal Council. "That would definitely put your father in a tizzy."Dimitri nodded, sitting in Josh's recliner, his hands dangling off the arms. "It would at that, but the opportunity is awesome. They want me to run the whole community, protecting the people who live there from outside threats."Josh cocked an eyebrow at him as he wiped his lips with the back of his hand. "Does the town get a lot of outside threats?"Dimitri shrugged as he crossed his legs, right ankle resting on his left knee. "I don't know to be honest. From what the Council told me, the small community is a safe haven for people wanting to get out of the public eye. They've either been hurt or used somehow by people who didn't particularly

Lainie groaned when she heard her father call her name. She should have known she wouldn't be able to slip inside of her house unnoticed. Her father seemed to have a sixth sense of knowing when his children tried to avoid him, and Lainie had done her best to do just that ever since his big announcement of pairing her up with Miles Hemingway for the rest of her life. Her father hadn't even asked her! He just assumed she would be the dutiful daughter and obey his wishes for her future, so he could better his business connections. It was bad enough that Fitz fell for their father's machinations. Lainie refused to be their father's bargaining chip. Hopefully, he got that hint Saturday night. As soon as she walked into her father's study, however, she knew she should have known better. Daniel Everest did not take hints. Or suffer disobedience. When he set his sights on something, he bulldozed his way to his happy conclusion."There's my good girl," her father said as soon as she passed thro

When Dimitri pulled up into the family driveway, a car he didn't recognize parked in front of the house. Lainie didn't tell me we had company. He parked behind the strange vehicle, shut off his engine, and slid out of the driver's seat and into the humid North Carolina night. He hadn't taken two steps toward the front door, though, when the door exploded open with a jerk, and Lainie stormed out and down the front steps. "Un-fucking-believable!" she shouted as she hit the walkway and turned toward the woods.Dimitri could see the beginning of her shift and called out to her, stopping her from completing the transformation. "Hey, what's happening? Whose car is that?" he asked, pointing to the strange vehicle.Lainie spun, pointing at the house as she snarled, "Our dear father invited the Hemingways over, so I could get to know Miles better. "But Talquin, I am looking out for the best interests of everyone in Bull Creek," Neal stressed into the phone. This was not how he expected this hump day to go. "I'm trying to keep everyone safe. You have to believe me.""No, Neal, I don't, and what you're saying just isn't true," Talquin said. "Marilyn Bowman told Agatha everything. Seems you've been allowing Bane Kastner to throw his weight around to the detriment of the humans as well as the witches. That's not in line with the mission of Bull Creek. How is that keeping them safe if they're being run out of their homes?""But, it is," Neal said as he stared out his front window from where he sat in his recliner. "Talquin, we both know the predatory nature of the coyotes. He's just…""He's just doing what you're there to prevent him from doing," Talquin snapped, cutting Neal off. The vampire's tone left no room for argument. "It was your duty to stop Bane from being able to do what he's doing, not give him free rein. Dimitri Everest

Our team arrived too late to help with Hoyt's arrest, but the people in Bull Creek took him and four of his goons down. Hoyt shot Ezra in the process, and Liam has a broken arm." She pressed her lips into a thin line as she took a deep breath. "Mason is dead. Colton and he got into a fight, and it didn't go well for Mason." She shook her head. "He got off easy as far as I'm concerned. He helped Hoyt kill families and sell children."Kacey appeared in the doorway, arms over her chest as she leaned on the doorframe as she listened in on the conversation. Benny stood behind her, hands shoved into his pockets as he stared into the office at Milli.Julian glanced at them briefly and then returned his attention to Milli. "Has Hoyt said where he sold the other children?" he asked.

The bullet barely missed Ezra as he dove to the side out of the way. As soon as he saw the monkey fling himself through the open door, Ezra knew that gun would be an issue. He sat up from the ground, his hand going to the gunshot wound he suffered a few days ago when he threw himself in front of Lainie Everest to protect her from a crazed suitor. As he gritted his teeth, he growled, his bear bursting at the seams of his restraint, wanting out to destroy Hoyt. Glancing around, he watched as Hoyt grabbed Liam's neck, tossing the tiny monkey across the room as Josh struck Hoyt in the gut with the fireplace poker, doubling the man over. Ezra growled as he launched himself from the floor, diving over Hoyt and grabbing the man by the waist as he turned in on himself, pulling Hoyt backward into a reverse somersault. Colton stared out the window as Ash sat on the couch, little Erin close to her side. He couldn't believe the little girl had enough magical power to enchant so many dolls and stuffed animals with a part of herself, hopefully enough to throw off whatever locator spell Hoyt's sister placed on Erin. He was still unsure how the possessive magic Dimitri talked about worked, but he hoped it worked the way the alpha of Bull Creek thought it would. He hoped the pile of stuffed animals led Hoyt straight to the other cabin and away from Erin. The little girl needed this nightmare to be over. They all did.He could hear the older woman talking to the little girl behind him, doing her best to keep Erin calm in the midst of the chaos that became her life. Ash did a better job of it than either him or Liam did. Colton grinned. Of course, Liam entertained Erin well as a monkey. Colton chuckled as he shook his head. Ezra sat in the cabin, staring at a battered teddy bear that was missing one eye and possessed a hole under its left arm. Josh had been right; Dimitri's idea was one of the wackiest he had seen. They spent the next thirty minutes with Erin putting her tiny hands on each doll and stuffed animal, asking each one of them to talk to her like her doll, Betsy, and then they took the toy into a back bedroom to see if Dimitri's idea would actually work. The biggest surprise was that the idea worked perfectly.Dimitri then sent each of the others off somewhere in Bull Creek with a couple of the dolls to hide them in various places, hopefully, weakening the locator spell, leaving the rest of the toys in a giant pile in the back bedroom, including the original doll, Betsy, which had the most of Erin's essence inside of it. He wanted them in the back bedroom, limiting Erin's reaction to whatever happened in the toys' presence. Colton then snuck Erin out of the cabin, taking her to Ash's home where

As they approached the cabin, Dimitri noticed Cody Wolfe, now in dry clothes, standing off to the side, arms over his chest as he leaned on a tall birch, talking into his cell phone. He glanced up at them, nodding at whatever he heard in the phone."Does anyone else think that man pops up a lot?" Nathan asked as they all came to a stop and stared at the shaggy-haired man. "He's like a bad coin that keeps surfacing when you're in front of a vending machine. Good for nothing.""Do you think him being at the lake and now outside the cabin means he's working for Hoyt?" Josh asked, his panther's hiss evident in his voice. "I'd be more than happy to go have a talk with him, if you know what I mean."Dimitri just shook his head. "No, I'll talk to him. See what he knows, if anything, or if he's just snooping for Bane. That man's been too quiet lately, and I don't like it." He turned to the others. She then turned to the principal. "Can you get her out of there?
