Chapter 35

Zach.

I opened my eyes as soon as I felt the sunrays hit my bare skin. Immediately, as if on instinct, my arms went to the side of the bed. I only felt the firm mattress and the soft bed covers beside me. Immediately, I bolted up from bed, trying to piece together my surroundings and the vivid memories I had of last night.

I saw the old bed cover on the floor. I sighed in relief. At least I knew I didn’t just dream last night. It really happened; it had been real. And the evidence of that was on the floor. I remembered she insisted we change the bed covers because it was soaked in our passion juices and her blood—the blood of lost innocence.

I walked toward the cabinet to put on a fresh pair of boxer shorts. Then I went to the bathroom, hoping she was there.

When she wasn’t, I quickly checked out the bedroom floor again to check if the clothes we wore last night were still there. I was relieved to see that they were. I quickly brushed my teeth and then walked down the stairs to look f
