I sighed in defeat. My friends knew I would do anything to get that locket. It was the only memory I had left of my brother. True, we weren’t related by blood, but he loved me more than my biological parents ever did. He was my hero, my knight in shining armor. When I lost him, I wasn’t able to fully recover. Having that locket made me feel that I still had a part of him with me.
I turned on my heel and went back to the bathroom without giving them an answer.
This is going to be a long and interesting evening!
***
The Red Festival was not just known as being one of the best yearly rock concerts, it was known for wild parties as well. People liked to dress up here, pretend to be somebody else. Perhaps my friends chose the perfect occasion to dare me to let myself loose.
I wore a white turtleneck sleeveless cropped top, white fitted pants, and high-heeled boots.
My usual ash-blond hair was dyed with purple and blue highlights. Then I curled the ends to give it a flirty effect. I put on solid black contact lenses to cover up my very distinctive eyes. I loved my rare amber eyes. They gave an orange hue against the light, like it had a fire-red center. I wasn’t sure how I got them. Both my parents had blue eyes, like my brother. Maybe that’s why they loved my brother more. He looked so much like them even though he was adopted.
I smiled at my reflection in the mirror. My flat belly was exposed, showing off my crystal butterfly navel ring. I thought I looked cute and flirty, and not slutty at all.
When I came out of the bathroom, Marie and Jessie were wide-eyed and open-mouthed.
“Okay, I call dibs on her,” Marie breathed.
I wrinkled my nose at her.
“You are such a slut,” Jessie said to her. Then she turned to me. “You look out-of-this-world gorgeous! Looks like you’re all dolled up for the adventure of your life.”
I rolled my eyes. “Of course, it could well be my last!”
“You look like you stepped right out of the manga pages. I bet guys are going to kill their way over to you.”
“Well, I’m here to enjoy the biggest concert on the planet. Not to hook up with guys.”
“What happened to our bet?” Marie pouted.
I shrugged. “Well, if somebody interesting comes along, maybe I’ll play this game with you. If not, I would have to recover that locket some other way. Even if I have to murder you both! You know how important that necklace is to me!”
“We know,” Marie said. “But seriously, your brother couldn’t be the greatest guy in your life.”
“You don’t know the things my brother did for me,” I said in a serious tone.
I touched the scar on my right forearm. It reminded me of the time I ran away once, desperate to catch my parents’ attention. I hid in an old shed a mile away from home. Nobody came. Not even for hours. Only my brother, who knew exactly what I was thinking. He convinced me to come home. On our way out, a metal bar fell from the ceiling, slicing my arm and the skin on his back. We were both rushed to the emergency room and got stitches afterward. My parents never left his room. I had nannies looking out for me in mine.
My brother told my parents he wanted to play in the shed. I was only there because I was stopping him. He told them a metal bar fell off from the ceiling, and if I wasn’t in the way, it would have hit him big time. He told them I saved his life, but it was really the other way around. My brother saved me, got hurt because of me, and lied to our parents so they wouldn’t punish me. From that moment on, I knew my brother would do anything for me—blood-related or not.
“He will always be the greatest guy in my life.” I sighed.
“Many of us base our ideal guys on our fathers. I guess you base yours on your big brother.”
I laughed humorlessly. “Yes, that’s right. Because I think all other guys are better than my father.”
It was true. My father barely looked at me. On the rare occasions that he did, he did so dismissively, like I was the most unimportant person in the world.
“That’s really harsh,” Jessie said.
“That’s really true.” I sighed. “Come on, I don’t want to ruin my last day of freedom thinking about a man who doesn’t give a shit about me, or a guy who’s been gone from my life for fourteen years. Maybe you’re right. Maybe there is a guy out there who’s not meant to cause me grief.”
“Amen!” The girls cheered.
We arrived at the concert grounds fifteen minutes later. It was packed. Loud music was blaring in every speaker in the four corners of the grounds. Some people were camping out and already drinking beer.
“Now, let’s get some booze,” Marie said excitedly.
We checked out the stores on the sides of the concert ground. There were temporary tattoo stations, souvenir shops, and food stands. Marie convinced all of us to get temporary neon tattoos.
“That thing’s not going to wear off for days! My parents are not gonna approve,” I argued.
“And you care because?” Marie raised a brow at me.
She was right! Besides, when did my parents care about what I do? When did they care about me ever?
So I decided to get a butterfly tattoo with the letter Z on the center in neon pink and green. I had it drawn over the scar on my arm. When the artist was done, I was actually glad I did it.
“Why the letter Z?” Marie asked.
I laughed. “Maybe that’s my prerequisite for your little game. I’ll hook up with a guy… only if his name starts with a Z.”
Marie glared at me. “Are you freaking kidding me? You had to choose the most difficult letter in the alphabet?”
“Well, there’s always X and Q,” I said, laughing.
She rolled her eyes and strode away angrily.
I paid for our bill, and then I went out of the tent to follow her.
“Marie, wait u—” I shrieked as my foot got caught on a rope barrier at the entrance of the tent. “Fuck!” I cursed.
But before I could fall flat on my face, I felt strong arms wrap around me, catching me and saving me from pain and severe embarrassment.
“Easy, doll,” I heard a guy say. He settled me on my feet. I looked up and found a pair of gorgeous blue eyes staring down at me.
I swallowed hard.
Shit! He is beautiful!
He was tall, with combed-back dark-blond bangs and side undercut. He had a strong jaw and deep-set blue eyes framed by long, dark lashes. He was wearing a black leather jacket over a white fitted shirt that subtly hinted at toned abdominal muscles underneath.
Shit! Why did I notice that?
“Th-thanks,” I managed to say, and I seriously hoped I didn’t squeak.
“Be careful, okay?” he said, his eyes twinkling as he smiled at me, revealing a set of deep dimples on both cheeks.
“Yeah… I’ll remember that,” I managed to reply.
We stood there for a couple of seconds. I could feel the uncomfortable silence thickening.
“I’m…” he started saying.
At the same time, I said, “I’m in a hurry.” Then I started backing away.
Shit! What was I supposed to say? Ask him, “You were saying?” because he was about to introduce himself?
Unable to take that back, I gave him a small wave and ran off in the direction where Marie went off to. She still looked pissed at me when I found her.
“What’s wrong?”
“I’m frustrated with you,” she grumbled. “If you’re unhappy, it’s because you refuse to believe that you deserve to be happy! I think you are the problem! Not the guys you dated! You!”
I had never seen Marie mad before. She was always positive, always saw the good in people. She was the type who would go home with guys and actually believed they would call her when they promised they would, and they almost always never did. But she didn’t lose hope. When she failed, she would just try again. Marie was not really a slut, just a hopeless romantic.
“I’m sorry,” I said. “I was only messing with you. I am open to possibilities. In fact, I tripped on the way here and a really beautiful guy caught me in his arms.”
Her eyes widened. “You’re kidding me!”
I shook my head. “But I didn’t get his name. I was running after you.”
“What? You chose me over a cute guy who could possibly make you see rainbows and stars?”
“Of course! You’re my friend. Lasses before asses. Chicks before dicks? Ever heard those popular phrases before?”
“Well, as your friend, I’m ordering you to get back there!”
She pulled me toward the tattoo tent again. In a way, I was hoping to see that guy again too. I wasn’t easy to impress, and I didn’t usually get attracted at first sight, but somehow, there was just something about that guy. Strange and yet oddly familiar. Dangerous and yet trustworthy.
“Is that him?” Marie pointed toward a blond guy standing in front of the tent. He was cute, but not cuter than the guy I bumped into.
I shook my head.
“Is that him?” she pointed at another guy.
I shook my head again.
“Him?”
“Come on, Marie, let’s go find Jess,” I said. “He’s not here anymore.”
“Oh, that’s sad. The first guy you ever showed interest in could be gone because of me.”
“Never mind, Marie. I believe in destiny. When it’s meant to be, I’ll see him again.”
Marie groaned as we walked in a different direction to find Jessie, who was getting braids the last time we saw her. We found her laughing animatedly with a cute black-haired guy.
The correct term was actually flirting. And when Jess flirted, it meant that she really liked the guy.
She introduced him as Kenzo. He’s in college, and when Marie saw the can of beer in his hand, she practically beamed.
“These are my friends, Marie and Bee,” Jessie said.
Another guy approached us. He was holding four cans of beer in his hand. “And this is Michael,” Kenzo introduced his friend. He was also cute, and I could see Marie was already eyeing him with interest.
Michael opened the can of beer for Marie. It must have been shaken while he was transporting it. When he pulled the ring, it made a loud fizzing sound. The trajectory of the liquid was directly toward me. I was hopeless to dodge it, but then suddenly, I felt somebody pull me out of the way.
“Easy, doll,” a familiar voice said. I looked up and found the same guy who caught me at the tent. He was looking down at me with an amused expression on his face. “We should stop meeting like this,” he teased.
I smiled back at him shyly. “Thanks… again.”
I gently pulled away from him, and then I took a step back. Michael came over to me. “I’m sorry. I didn’t see you there.”
I smiled at him. “It’s okay. I was saved anyway.”
“Yeah, real smooth, Z,” Kenzo said to the guy who caught me.
I turned to him. So did Marie.
“Excuse me? What did he say your name was?” Marie asked.
“Z,” the guy replied. Then he turned to me and said, “Hi, my name is Zach.”
Normally, hanging out with a group of guys we just met would be excruciatingly uncomfortable for me. I didn’t openly support my friends hooking up with strangers. And I never imagined doing it myself. But then again, there really was something about Zach that I found interesting— apart from the fact that he was really hot! They were all older than us. Kenzo and Michael were both twenty-three. Zach just turned twenty-four over the weekend. He and his friends were here at the concert to celebrate.I had met a lot of hot guys. Dated some of them too. I wasn’t easily impressed, and I certainly did not get tongue-tied over a guy’s sex appeal. Usually, guys like Zach were oozing with confidence, or arrogance would be the more precise term. But Zach seemed different. He looked confident and sure of himself. But he didn’t strike me as self-centered or hungry for approval. He looked more like the take-it-or-leave-it type of guy.He would look at me for a brief second, and then he would turn to
Electricity flowed from his lips to mine. He gave me one chaste kiss, and then he pulled back before leaning in again, waiting to see if I would meet him halfway. Well, he did mention we were living fantasies, right? So, I tiptoed so I could kiss him back. He tightened his arms around me and deepened the kiss. We lost ourselves while the song ‘You and I’ blasted on the speakers. We didn’t care. It was the perfect song, the perfect moment… the perfect kiss. It sent tingles down my spine, making me want to feel more. I was glad that he was strong enough to hold me because I didn’t think I would be able to stand on my own.Fireworks erupted above us, and the crowd cheered louder. He leaned his forehead against mine as he sucked in a deep breath.“Wow…” he said softly.I closed my eyes and smiled as I felt his arms around me tighten, as if he were afraid to break the connection we just had.I turned around toward the stage. He wound his arms around my waist and pulled me to him so that my
Zach planted a soft kiss at the base of my neck, sending shivers down my spine.“I’m starting to believe in fate more and more,” he said.“Maybe it’s high time you should.” I turned to the stage and continued watching the band that was playing.Suddenly, I felt queasy. Sweat started to form on my forehead. I could feel a shiver running down my spine. I knew this feeling, and I’d lost count of how many times I felt like this before.Zach pulled away from me and looked at my feverish expression. Quickly, he pulled something out of his pocket. It was a piece of candy. “Take this,” he said. I took it from him without another word. Then he said, “Let’s grab something to eat.”I could only smile at him. Somehow, he realized what was happening. I was going hypoglycemic because I hadn’t had anything decent to eat for hours. He took my hand and intertwined our fingers.“You’re diabetic?” he asked.I nodded.“Okay, we better eat. They have burgers, sushi, pasta, and salad. Japanese, Chinese, It
Memories of the night my mother beat the hell out of my brother because she thought she was hitting me flooded my mind. I was scared of thunder and lightning. Every kid was. But when I sought comfort from my parents, I was either ignored or abused, which aggravated the fear even more and developed into a full-grown phobia.Thunder bellowed for the third time, and I covered my mouth, stifling a scream. My body started shaking.“Hey, hey!” I heard Zach say beside me. He hugged me, and I buried my face on his chest. He caressed my head gently and bent his head so he could whisper in my ear. “Shhhh… It’s okay, baby girl. I’m here. I got you.”I learned how to deal with my phobia over the years, but I had never been in an open field during a big thunderstorm before.Another roll of thunder bellowed in the skies. I couldn’t help screaming, “Zachary!” Tears rolled down my cheeks, my thoughts drifted off to the last time somebody held me during a storm. It had been too long, it felt like it w
“What? Where?” I managed to ask.He pointed at the tall five-star hotel across the street.“Are you kidding me?”He shook his head. “I was celebrating my birthday, remember? My… father thought I should do it in fashion.”After two minutes, we entered the hotel lobby. We were soaking wet from the rain, and my clothes were totally ruined.Zach pulled me to the elevators and pressed his floor. The long ascent to his hotel room felt like a short descent to my first indiscretion. Zach and I were like fireworks in a public place, I wonder how we would be in a private, enclosed place with a comfortable bed between us.Zach’s room has a small sitting area with a small couch and a shower room. The bedroom was huge, with a California king bed, a dining table, a balcony, and en suite bathroom. I took off his jacket and hung it in the bathroom. Then I took off my wet shoes and dabbed a towel all over my wet skin.Outside, the rain only poured harder than before. Lightning occasionally illuminated
Shit! Will that turn him off?Shyly, I bit my lip and nodded.“You mean, if I take you now, I would be taking your cherry?” He sounded like he couldn’t believe what he was saying.I nodded again.Slowly, he smiled at me. “Okay,” he said. “I won’t take it if you don’t want to give it up yet,” he said. “If you’re saving it for marriage… or you want to wait until you’re sure about the guy.”Oh my god! I couldn’t believe he was saying this to me. Half a minute ago, I was going to give it to him!“But, damn, I’m so hot for you, and I would go crazy if we stop now,” he added. And I completely agreed with him. “If you let me, I will make you cum. Is that okay?”“Zach…”Before I could say anything more, he pressed his cock against me. “You know what, on second thought, I’m not taking no for an answer.” Then he kissed my lips savagely. He took his boxers off. Then he positioned himself so that the length of his penis was resting above my clit. I squirmed at the sensation and felt my juices flo
“This is temporary, baby girl,” he said. “When we get back to our homes, I’ll call you. We need to talk about logistics. Send me your addresses, the university you go to. We’ll work this out. I’ll fly to London as often as I could. Who knows? Maybe someday, I’ll move there after I’m done with my masters.”“I… I won’t be going to London.”“What?” He blinked.“I’ll be here in the States,” I said. “My father asked me to come back home.”His eyes gleamed, and he kissed me on the lips again.“Hey, lovebirds! We’re on last call!” Marie shouted.“All right, go!” Zach said. “We’ll talk later.”He gave me one final kiss, and then I turned around and ran off toward Marie. Before I entered the station, I took one last look at him. He gave me a small salute. I smiled and blew him a kiss.I boarded the train with a heavy heart. I was scared that I might never see him again. I was regretting that I didn’t fully make love to him because I knew, I’d fallen in love with him.I couldn’t believe this wa
I sat beside Zachary during dinner. My eyes were reddish and wet with tears. My parents thought they were only tears of happiness because I was reunited with my brother. Or maybe they simply didn’t care. They were being nice to me—for Zachary’s sake. Now, it all made sense, why my parents suddenly asked me to come home. I had a strong feeling that Zachary asked for it. He wanted me to be here.Zach!I called him Zach over and over when I was reduced into a pool of liquid passion in his hands.“You said you met an amazing girl at the concert, son. Tell us more about her. Am I going to have a daughter-in-law soon?” my father asked, and I choked on my food.“Are you okay, dear?” my mother asked.I took a gulp of water and nodded slightly. We all fell quiet, and when I looked at my parents, they were staring expectantly at him, waiting for him to answer. He cleared his throat. “No, Dad,” he replied. “I doubt that.”“Why? What was the problem? You looked so over the moon when you arrived t
Zach.My cheeks and neck where Damien had hit me burned, but the physical pain was the least of my worries. All I could feel was guilt and remorse just thinking about what Blaire must be going through right now.I hated myself for subjecting her to this humiliation, and it was because I failed to be a man and control my dick. If only I could undo my mistakes. My body, mind, and soul craved her with an intensity that scared me. The thought of ending the night without plunging into her pussy nearly drove me crazy. I couldn’t resist my desire to claim her, smolder her with my infinite passionate kisses, caressing, and fondling. I wasn’t one to accept defeat – not when we were so close to expressing our feelings out in the open. And by some stroke of misfortune, our friends had to rain on our parade! And now, not only did they walk in on our business uninvited, they made us face our harsh reality… our worst nightmare.
Blaire.I didn’t know how much time flew by. All I knew was that my beautiful dirty secret has finally spilled out in the open. I couldn’t pull away from the visibly upset Zach, who held me close to his chest as I buried my face in his chest, too embarrassed to continue the staring competition with our friends. But the strong demeanor he wore to make me feel better did little to alleviate my apprehension.Marie was the first to break the silence.“Bee! What the fuck do you think you are doing?” she screamed, tears peering through her eyes. She covered her face with her palms as she sobbed into them.Kenzo didn’t say anything. He just stood there coolly with his hands inside his pockets. His attitude since I and Zach bumped into him earlier that evening showed that he already knew what was going on with us.Trepidation consumed Jessie. She lost words to describe the obscenity playing right before her e
My phone beeped.Zach: Baby girl…Me: Babe…Zach: I forgot my bag.Me: Okay, I’ll be out in a minute.I wiped my tears dry and then I went out of the room. Zach’s bag was in the cabinet. I took it silently and then I went out the door. Zach was leaning against the wall beside the door.“Hey,” I whispered. He stared at me for a moment. Then he reached forward and caressed my head gently.“There are a million things I wanted to say, a dozen things I wanted to do to you,” he whispered.Tears rolled down my cheeks. “I miss you!”He smiled at me ruefully. “I miss you, too. And right now, there’s nothing more I want to do than kiss you senseless and drown myself in you.”“Me too.”He pushed a lock of stray hair away from my face.“I’m sorry,” he said.
We attended the concert with our friends, keeping at least two feet distance between us. My arms ached to hug him, my lips couldn’t wait to kiss him.“I thought your boyfriend is joining us, Blaire,” Damien reminded us of when we all grabbed dinner at the food stands.“He’s ah…” I trailed off, not really knowing what to say. If only I know what my imaginary boyfriend was up to!“He’s stuck in a blizzard. Plane got cancelled,” Zach supplied for me.“What? Blizzard? Where the hell did he come from?” Kenzo asked with a wide-eyed expression. Something told me he didn’t believe there was a boyfriend all along. After all, he knew Zach well.Zach raised an annoyed brow at him before replying curtly, “Alaska!”“Oh, that’s too bad,” Kenzo said with a slight smirk.Yep! He knows.“Oh, that means you’r
Blaire.I stared at my friends blankly. Then I turned to Damien. “Hey, Dame. Nice to see you again,” I said, stepping forward and giving him a hug.“Where’s your boyfriend?” he asked. “I was wondering if we can finally get an introduction? You didn’t come here with just your big brother, you? That would be boring!”“Ummm… yeah. He’s chaperoning me,” I said quickly. “I was going to meet my boyfriend here. Zach agreed to hang around with me until he comes.”“Zach’s your brother? And you have a boyfriend?” Marie asked.“And you didn’t tell us?” Jessie asked accusingly.I smiled at them sheepishly. “I guess. It’s just recent. I didn’t get a chance to tell them yet.”“Recent?” Damien echoed. “You’ve been rejecting my boy Ricky during our family reunion becau
No! He can’t know! We’ve been careful.I cleared my throat and straightened my back. “Are… you okay?”“Of course, of course,” he replied. “But if you need something, come to me, okay? I have your back, cuz. The court said you’re not related to us anymore, don’t forget that. You are not our blood. Legally, you are not my uncle’s son anymore. But… you’re still my cousin, okay?”He patted me on the shoulder.Okay! He’s being a little weird.“Okay,” I said. “I’ll remember that.”“Good,” he said.“Ben, it was nice seeing you again,” Blaire said behind him.“Oh, hello, cuz,” Ben said. He reached forward and gave her a hug. As if automatically, I started timing how long he’d be hugging her. After five seconds, I’d be hauling him off her.Luckily, he pu
Zach.I pulled her toward my car and opened the passenger door for her.“We can’t leave!”“Oh yeah we can,” I said.“Those guys are going to notice that we’re gone.”“Like I care,” I said. I motioned for her to get in.Reluctantly, she got in.I drove away from the bar.“Where are we going?”“To heaven, baby girl. I’m going to give you what you’ve been asking for since the moment you walked into the bar.”Her eyes widened in disbelief. My hands went to her thigh, giving it a light squeeze, making her bare skin even hotter.“Oh my god, I don’t think I can do this,” she breathed.“Do what, baby girl?”Suddenly, she seemed really nervous. I stared back at her. She shook her head. “I can’t do this. I can’t just walk out of the bar with a complete
Zach.Me: I’m sure. You’re the teasing type. I’ll bet it makes you hot thinking about how I’ll rip those panties off you. So, tell me… how tiny are they? Her: So tiny they barely conceal me.I almost choked on my beer.It was getting hot. We had been through this before. When we sext each other, we usually end up having sex in the shed. But the problem was that we were a thousand miles away from home and we were surrounded by nosy cousins, aunts, uncles, and our parents. But I was not sure I could wait until tomorrow night to make love to her.“You didn’t come here just to text all night, did you?” Damien asked behind me.I immediately turned my phone over, hiding the screen from him.“Remember, I didn’t want to come at all,” I said, drinking my beer.“Plenty of hot girls here. You don’t fancy anyone?”Yes.
Zach.“Look, if you guys want to have some fun, go knock yourselves out,” I said to the boys.“We’re going to hook up with chicks, man. Don’t be such a party pooper!” Damien said to me.“Don’t tempt him, bro. He’s got a girl,” Ben told him.“So?” Damien asked, arching a brow.“So, I’m loyal,” I said.“You’re whipped!” Ben said, chuckling.“I am. And I’m proud of it. You should try it. Feels incredible.”Damien wrinkled his nose and shivered as if he found the idea extremely abominable.“Come on, bro! We just got you back after almost a decade! You used to be the leader of all mischiefs in the pack. And now, you’re staying at home when we want to go clubbing with girls. Oh, did I mention hot girls?” Damien said.“I’m not stopping you. But sorry, guys. M
