Chapter 7: I owe you one.

“Jane Lockwood!” Lucy exclaimed, her voice trembling, as she rushed over to the bed she was lying on. Touching her pale face, which was cold to touch, she choked on her sob. “I knew you were still alive, but they didn't believe me.”

Dylan's expression turned puzzled seeing his girlfriend's reaction. “You know her?”

Lucy nodded, tears streaming down her face. “We were friends since childhood, she disappeared a year ago.”

Leonard’s gaze never left Jane. “What happened to her?” He questioned.

Lucy's voice cracked. “The last time we talked before she went missing, she was telling me about some arranged marriage she had since childhood. If I’m not mistaken, I think the reason she went missing was to escape the marriage.

After getting this information from Lucy. Leonard's expression turned solemn. No one knows what he was thinking.

After Lucy composed herself, Dylan continued examining Jane. “We need to get her to New York, she requires specialized care.” Dylan said.

“I will make arrangements.” Leonard said before walking out of the room to call his assistant.

Leonard's footsteps echoed outside the room as he called his assistant Rachel.

“Rachel, arrange for a private jet to New York immediately, we need to get Jane specialized care.”

“Right away sir. What’s the situation.” Rachel's voice was efficient.

“Jane Lockwood, an old friend of Lucy. She is being through a traumatized experience.

Rachel's tone softens. “Right away sir, will you be joining her?”

“Yes, I will accompany her to New York.” Leonard replied.

Rachel hesitated. “But sir, we have not finalized the business deal with Smith Enterprises. They are expecting your presence tomorrow.

Reschedule it, Jane is the priority now. Leonard’s tone remains firm.

Rachel's response was instant. “Understood sir, I will arrange everything.

“And one more thing, I want all the information about her. Her life in Los Angeles, why she wanted to commit suicide, and the most important thing, who the fuck is her arranged marriage partner.” He said the last sentence with anger which he himself doesn’t notice, before disconnecting the call.

Rachel was speechless after hearing her boss. When did he start pork nosing in other people's matters?

As Leonard returns to the room, Lucy’s tears have subsided.

Dylan looks up from examining Jane. “Leonard, we are ready to move her whenever you are.”

Leonard nodded. “The jet will be ready soon. Let’s get her to New York.”

“Dylan, how is she?” Leonard asked.

Dylan’s expression was grave. “She is stable, but we need to address the underlying issues.

Leonard nodded. “We will get her the best care in New York.”

Lucy gaze locked unto Leonard. “Thank you Leonard, I owe you one.”

Leonard's smile remains gentle. “No need to thank me, we will get Jane the help she needs.”

As they departed for the airport, Leonard’s thoughts lingered on Jane’s arranged marriage partner.

“Who was he, and why did she want to escape from the marriage. And why did he feel an inexplicable connection to her?”

The private jet soared into the night sky, carrying Jane, Leonard, Lucy and Dylan to New York.

********

The private jet landed smoothly at JFK airport. Rachel, Leonard's assistant, had been awaiting their arrival. After the private jet landed successfully, she marched forward to welcome them.

“Sir, everything is ready. Dr. Sophia Patel will oversee Jane’s treatment.

Leonard nodded, his gaze never leaving Jane who had been laid onto the emergency stretcher.

Rachel shifted her gaze from her boss to Jane. Seeing her beautiful face, even though it’s pale, she appears to be sleeping peacefully, not looking sick at all. Rachel felt pity for her, after finding out about her past.

It’s like her boss who had been neutral to women since all these years had finally met his match.

Rachel thought lingered on Leonard's sudden interest in Jane. “Was it a concern or something else?”

At New York-Presbyterian Hospital, Dr Sophia Patel greeted them on arrival.

Welcome, Mr. Banks. We will do everything in our power to make Miss Jane heal.

Leonard nodded, before following behind Jane as they wheeled her in, with Dylan and Lucy also trailing behind them.

Lucy clutched Dylan’s hand, tears welling up. I don’t want to leave her,” Lucy whispered.

Dylan's expression softened. “We will stay as long as you need, Lucy.

Not long after Jane was pushed into the Icu waiting room, Dr. Sophia also left with her. Some minutes later, she came out with a grave expression.

"Jane's condition is critical due to excessive blood donation over the past year, causing severe anemia, uterine damage, and hormonal imbalances. She's lost too much blood, and her body can't recover. Surgery is necessary to repair the damage and stabilize her health.

Lucy's face crumpled hearing this. “How can this be possible? What happened that caused the excess blood?” She asked no one but herself.

Dylan wrapped his arms around Lucy, holding her close as she broke down. “It will be okay, he said to her.

What’s crucial now is Jane's recovery. Blood donation is needed urgently, and her blood type is a rare one, so we need a perfect match for her.
