I was faintly aware of their footsteps and scent fading, then I broke open the capsule in my hands roughly, bathing the air around us in wolfs bane. I reached for the nearest object—a heavy vase sitting on the nearby table—and hurled it in Zack's direction.

The vase shattered against the wall, diverting his attention for a split second even as he began to morph back into a human. It was enough of a distraction for me to seize the opportunity and make a dash for the utility closet that was on the way to the stairs.

With every ounce of strength and determination, I barricaded the door, praying that it would hold long enough to help. The adrenaline coursing through my veins fueled my actions as I rummaged through the room, searching for something, anything, that could serve as a weapon against him.

Zack's menacing voice echoed from the other side of the door, his threats reverberating through the silence. "You can't hide forever, Meghan. I'll find you, and when I do, you'll regret ever d

Maybe I was indeed being paranoid but I realized that a little too late of course, after I had confronted a lady who was about to pick up her son from school as well.“I’m so sorry ms. I must have mistaken you for someone else, please pardon me”I didn’t even wait for her reply before I quickly hurried back to my kids and drove off. Back on the main road and away from my anxiety and paranoia, I listened to their stories about their day, feeling grateful for their happiness and energy. Though I had a lot to think about, I couldn't help but feel that these moments with my children were the most precious part of my day. On our way home, the kids kept talking in hushed voices at the back seat. I wanted to ignore it but had to ask when I noticed Ethan pouting and staring at me through the mirror. "What's the matter honey?" I asked soothingly. He crossed his arms instead and Emily muttered under her breath. "Emily?" I called out, strictly this time. "Yes, mom." She answered reluctant

Lin's POVAs I sat silently with Meghan watching as her expression morphed from fear to relief, I couldn't help but interrupt her thoughts. Moving my seat to be closer to her, without thinking I held her hands that were clenched on the table in mine. It seemed to do the trick as she was drawn out of her reverie and looked at me. I couldn't help but soften my tone as I stared into her deep blue eyes, "Are you okay?" I asked, my voice laced with worry. Her lips moved like she was about to say something, but nodded instead."What Emily said earlier....""It's nothing." She replied hastily, cutting me off. "Meghan." I called soothingly. She turned to look at me as I searched her clear eyes and could see the uncertainty in them. "It's going to be okay." I assured, having a good idea what must be bothering her. "Thank you." She replied smiling. "Uncle Lin!!" I heard Ethan call out as they both ran towards us. "Will you come home with us today?" He asked ecstatic. His invitation made

Quickly realizing the situation, I rushed forward, instinctively trying to place myself between Ethan and Emily. With calming gestures and soothing words, I reassured Ethan and guided him back to his human form though not before he managed to take a bite out of me. As the tension dissipated, Emily let out a relieved breath and reached out to her brother, ensuring he was okay.Once the initial shock wore off, Ethan's eyes shimmered with remorse. "I'm so sorry, Emily," he whispered, his voice laced with regret. "I didn't mean to scare you."Emily's response was filled with understanding and forgiveness. She hugged her brother tightly, reassuring him that she was unharmed and that accidents happen. With their spirits uplifted and the incident behind us, we continued our journey through the pack's territory, though I had someone rush back to the Estate to get a dose of wolfs bane We stumbled upon a lively meadow where pack members had gathered for various activities. Leaving Ethan and Emily in Lin's capable hands, I embarked on a journey to visit my mother. And man, it was one heck of a journey. Mother was a dream walker, and she had waltzed right into my dreams the night before and asked me to come see her. The fact that it would take me about three hours on the road to get to her did not even register with her.As I entered her - in her words - modest home (which was way more than modest if you didn't get the hint), I was greeted by the familiar scent of freshly baked cookies and a flickering fireplace that cast a warm glow across the room. My mother, sitting in her favorite armchair, wore a reserved smile that only hinted at the depth of her affection. For someone who screamed at me how much she had wanted me unborn for the first five years of my life, she and I had a rather good relationship."Don't say it," she warned me once I was through the door."Really?" I asked, shaking my head. "Why not? Emily and Ethan say it all the time.""Cause I a

On my way back from my mother's house, I decided to make a quick stop at a convenience store to pick up some wolfs bane—a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of my children. As I stepped out of the store, clutching the small vial tightly, I froze in surprise. There, standing beside my car, was someone I used to think was my best friend Jessica. The flicker of shock that crossed her face was priceless as she scrambled to hide the cigarette she was smoking. It was evident she didn't expect to run into me."What are you doing here?" She asked, her voice laced with a mix of suspicion and curiosity."And why do you look so surprised?" I shot right back as I came to a stop before her.Jessica took a quick drag of her cigarette, attempting to compose herself. The smoke curled around her face, adding an air of mystery to her already dubious presence. She exhaled slowly, a cloud of smoke swirling in the parking lot's dimly lit atmosphere."I...uh...just needed some fresh air," she stamm

I drove home to find the lights on (I figured Lin had returned with the kids), and a shady smelling (werewolf senses responsible) rogue standing in front of my door and trying to spy at whatever movement going inside."Hey!" I called, stepping out of my car. "What are you doing?"The sleaze ball turned and smirked at me."There you are. You must certainly be Meghan," he crooned, his gaze dangerously glaring at me.I stood my ground, my eyes locked with the man's, refusing to show any signs of fear. His presence may have been intimidating, but I was determined not to let him see me falter."You've got some nerve showing up here uninvited," I said, my voice steady and laced with defiance. "I don't know who sent you, but I have no interest in anything you have to say, now leave!."The man's smirk faltered, taken aback by my assertiveness. "Alpha Zack wants you back, and he won't take no for an answer," he growled, attempting to regain control of the situation.I crossed my arms, unimpres

In that tender moment, as our lips lingered in a gentle kiss, a flood of emotions and possibilities rushed through my mind. I could sense the depth of Lin's affection, but a part of me longed for more clarity, a reassurance that this wasn't merely a fleeting moment of solace.Breaking the kiss, I looked into Lin's eyes, a mix of vulnerability and hope reflected in my gaze. "Lin, I... I want to be with you, but I need to know... What does this mean to you? Are you ready for the commitment that comes with taking on a woman and her children?"Lin's face softened, his voice filled with sincerity. "Meghan, you and your children mean everything to me. I understand the weight of the responsibility, and I embrace it wholeheartedly. I want to build a future together, to be the partner and protector you and your kids deserve."A wave of relief washed over me, a balm to the insecurities that had plagued my heart. I smiled, feeling the warmth of his words enveloping me. "Thank you, Lin. That mean

It was during one of those early breakfasts that Donna's malicious intentions reached a boiling point. As Ethan and Emily took their first bites, a look of disgust crossed Ethan's face. He promptly spat out the food, his eyes watering."What's wrong, sweetie?" I asked, concern etched across my face.Emily chimed in, her voice quivering. "It tastes... weird, Mom. Like it's gone bad."I blinked in surprise, frowned, and sniffed at the food in his plate. A peculiar scent wafted into my nose and I frowned. I knew that smell. It was Nightshade - this absolutely crazy concoction that did little to nothing against full grown werewolves but was quite potent against little children.I glanced around the room, and there, across the hall, sat Donna, a small smile playing on her lips. I would bet everything I had that she had something to do with this.My instincts screamed for confrontation, for justice to be served, for something to be done. But as I met Lin's gaze, I saw the calm determination

Epilogue Six months later. “Emily, go get your Dad and Ethan to get ready or we are going to be late for the ceremony” “Okay, mom” Emily nodded and turned to leave while I continued to busy myself with Jaxon. His birth came at a time when we were going through the most difficult moment of our lives and I can’t help but cherish the bond I have with him. Jaxon looked like Ethan when he was a month old. A resemblance that was uncanny to their father. Our little family went from four to five and ever since my hands have been more than full. Having to care for my kids as well as carrying out my duty as Luna around the pack hasn’t been easy but thanks to Lin, I was given a year leave from my work as a lawyer even though I have a feeling I won’t be returning after that. Lin had already hinted that he was working on helping me start my own law firm where I can recruit and train other lawyers in neighboring packs so they can defend their territories the right way without wedging war on ea

Meghan’s POV."What's happening to him?" I demanded, desperate for answers but mother simply looked at him as though nothing was wrong even though Lin looked like he was undergoing something more life threatening at the moment.“The cursed blood is getting fused with his beast making the transformation twice as painful for a normal wolf”My eyes widen, “How do we stop it?”"It can’t be stopped, child. Lin has to learn to control the powers that plagues him," mother said, sounding unbothered. "Often times, great powers comes with great responsibility"Lin let out a strangled cry, curling into himself and I pulled him closer, wrapping around his frame even though my arms barely fit across his board shoulders."Mother..look at him, this is a freaking curse…there has to be a way to help him." I pleaded, looking up at her."I’m sorry, Meghan but not all curse are a curse! Some are actually blessings if and only if he learns how to control it. If he doesn’t then he will die”My heart sank a

Desperation surged within me, and I summoned every ounce of my strength but it was of no use against him.Vincent's claws dug deeper, pressed down against my chest, his grip tightening around my heart, and for a fleeting moment, terror coursed through me. Her mother’s hand outstretched and enchanting some strange words.A surge of energy surged through me, a surge that matched the desperation in my heart. With the short bloody dagger still in my grip, I readied myself for the worst as the two rogue wolves closed in on me, their snarling faces contorted with hunger and aggression. I braced myself for the impending attack. My grip on the dagger tightened, the maternal instinct within me more than ready to protect the child cradled at the corner, not very far from me. The weight of responsibility bore down on me, and I was ready to face whatever threat came our way.The first one lunged at me, it’s claws slicing close to my cheek in a deadly swipe and causing me to stumble a few step back. Without hesitation, I swung the blade at its snapping jaw, only missing it by a few inches. My stand against them only made them angrier. I knew I stood no chance against them in my human form as my movement was too sloppy and still weak from childbirth. My wolf was of no use either, she was in no position to fight either. An hour or two could bring us more recovery but that seem to be the last thing

My gaze lingered on his innocent face, and for a moment, I brushed a gentle finger against his cheek. He was a precious reminder of our love, and my heart ached to hold him close.Turning to Ethan, my seven-year-old son, I knelt before him, my hands on his small shoulders. "Ethan," I began, my voice gentle but firm, "Mommy needs to go out for a little while. I need you to be a big, brave boy and watch over your baby brother and Emily until I come back, okay?"Ethan nodded, his wide eyes filled with det

Lin POV.Chaos reigned, the eerie glow of the moon casting shadows over the relentless clash between our forces and Vincent's rogue wolves. The rogues kept multiplying in numbers since our initial encounter, and their determination was palpable, as if they were been driven by an unquenchable thirst for power.Leon, his eyes reflecting both exhaustion and unwavering determination, has been at the forefront of the defense. When it seem like our efforts were going to waste, his voice filtered through my mind, strained but resolute. "Lin, I don’t think we can hold them off much longer, it's like they're being fueled by some unseen force. They just keep coming."Zack, his wolf form mirroring my own determination, chimed in, "Leon's right. It's possible the gem is their power source. We need to find it and neutralize it if we want to break their momentum."My gaze swept over our burning village that was swimming with rogues, searching for any signs of the gem's presence. Lin's POVAs I knelt beside Meghan and the kids, the weight of my actions pressed upon me like a leaden shroud. My heart pounded in my chest, each beat a painful reminder of the recklessness that had nearly cost us everything. Tears welled in my eyes, a mixture of relief at seeing my family unharmed and the overwhelming guilt for what I had put them through. I was a fool to trust that woman. I should have listened to Meghan when she wanted her out of our lives but I thought she could lead us to the solution to our problem.Sniffing back my tears, I leaned away, my gaze barely meeting hers. “I’m sorry, so sorry!”Meghan looked confused as her gaze bore into mine, her eyes a complex tapestry of emotions. “Lin, none of this is your fault.. If there is anyone to be blamed then it’s that vile woman”I shook my head, “No, you don’t understand.. I’m to blame too, I didn’t push her away when she offered. I wished I could help - oh, how I wished so - but I was pretty much tucked out at the moment. It was a bother to even keep my eyes open! I had to fight just to stay awake. Over these few months, Lin had diligently drilled them on the basics of self-defense, honing their instincts and abilities. Now, in this moment of peril, that training was going to become their greatest ally.Ethan, standing steadfast by my side, made a promise that sent both pride and trepidation coursing through me.
