Hazel’s POV

The children had already gone to sleep. I had cleaned the utensils we had used and was now watering Kaiser’s cactus. He had already watered it but I chose to do it again because I wanted to avoid Lucas. Before dinner, he had wanted to have a serious conversation with me. I did not know what he wanted to talk about because there was an array of issues I had not yet discussed with him. I was not used to sharing my problems with anyone. For a long time, I solved my issues alone, I stewed over them, thought of solutions that best fit me and made the appropriate move.

“You have been in there for quite some time, are you sure you are okay?” Lucas asked me for the second time when he came by the children’s room to bring their school shoes. He liked brushing them himself.

“Yes. I am good. I just needed to water this cactus.” I said.
