Taryn put her head straight and stared into his eyes. "No," she immediately declared.

"Yes," Elhias replied. "We have to talk to him, to find Cleim I need him too."

"No, you don't understand." Taryn got out of bed and placed the cup on the table. "Athelstan is not the problem, it is Kyros. What would happen if you sent a messenger to Locrand and instead of Athelstan Kyros showed up? What would happen if Kyros got his hands on me or Cleim, if he's alive, of course." Again she tried to suppress the grip that threatened to devour her heart at the very thought that such a thing might have happened to Cleim.

"He will never lay his hands on you, much less on the child," Elhias said as he reached her.

"You can't be sure. That man is capable of anything. He sent men to kill me. He hunted me like an animal, forced me to flee from Aeris, before I could even get close to Athelstan again. I will never allow him to come close to me again."
