Whenever Grace thought about what the family was going through, she remembered Mia being the cause of it all. Why would she even want to see her right now?

It was her fault Amelia was like this.

"I'm sorry, Aunt Grace. I was wrong," Mia sobbed pitifully. She didn't want to stay at a motel. She'd called her mother, but she said she was remarrying, so Mia couldn't go back for now.

Mia had been planning to ask for money, but her mother had hung up before she could even finish her sentence.

Her mother had always been unreliable. Why else would she have needed to rely on the Millers? Now that Grace was hellbent on kicking her out, she had nowhere to go.

"You were wrong? This mess isn't something you can fix just by saying that!"

"I know, I know," Mia said in agony. "Please forgive me, Aunt Grace. I swear, I won't do it again."

The Millers had already been through enough as it was, so Grace didn't react nicely at all when she saw Mia crying.
