I pressed my hands to my temples as the munching and sucking noises grew louder under me, the shouts of battle still echoing faintly in the distance as I let my eyelids fall closed, the weight of exhaustion settling over me.

I must have been crouched for hours, sobbing, sleeping, crying, only jerking awake when the noise of bloodthirsty werewolves killing more innocents in the open streets had me squeezing by eyes shut.

Whatever happened here now, I couldn’t go back to the stone castle, It was already too late for that.

JaphtarI had flown toward the king like I was god’s vengeance to the stone city, the uneven jang of my heartbeat sputtering and stopping as I connected lightly with his cheek, my clenched claws brushing over the sinew of muscle I’d torn earlier before I reared back, annoyed. What was this? Freaking tag?“Playing games now are you? Aren't you too old for tricks daddy?” I spat acidly, dancing away from the silent beast who squared up with one hind foot testing the space between us.It was unnerving. The calmness that had taken over him the minute the moon came out. I had to act fast, faster than I had planned to.”There’s still time for you to turn back Japhtar.” My father’s calm warning came only seconds before he dashed toward me, swinging with lightning speed and I transferred my life source from the now-dead beating in my chest to my clenched fist, back-handing the Lycan who went flying into the rubble of his City’s stones. The only way I was leaving the mountain city, was to plant

NOLA BAYESIt had been months since my bonded died, but for the first time since that sordid night, I was feeling confident, happy even. The mountain city troops had grown to staggering numbers in the past months, so I had dispensed a good number of guards to survey the old wolf village. My new city. The King and I hadn't decided on a name yet, but I knew it was going to be soon.We had freed the wolf village captives the next day, after the gruesome war. Alpha Theo’s rescue had been one I handled myself, with admittedly way too much joy than I could think to hide.“R-Reynolds? I-is that you dear girl?” He had rasped, the curved nails of his claws coming through the wrought-iron bars to lace over my hand before I snatched it away, incensed.“That’s Queen of the Highlands to you Alpha Theo, a shame to see you like this I must say, especially with the way you threw us maidens out on our behinds with nothing to our names.” I spouted, watching with a measure of satisfaction when he bent

Kalden, say something!” Nola gasped, slapping open the casing as a whoosh of frigid air swept up from the body, hitting me right in the nostrils.“Hector, you can't do this, I won't let you!” She screamed, turning to grip the lapel of my shirt with tears glistening on her cheeks.I nodded to the mourners huddled off to the side, darting tear-filled looks at us, and they bowed
