GUTEMBERG

While I was trying to organize my thoughts, one of the security guards entered the room. He leaned over to KJ and whispered something in his ear, quickly, too low for me to pick up. KJ frowned, but his expression soon changed to something that was a mixture of fury and excitement.

"Excuse me, Gutemberg. Something seems to require my immediate attention." He stood up, straightening his suit, and left the room with firm steps.

I watched his every move, like a predator waiting for the right moment to strike. I had no idea what had happened, but KJ's reaction told me it was something big. Maybe it was my chance to do something there, but the security guard who remained in the room stared at me, his eyes analyzing me as if he knew exactly what I was thinking.

I took a deep breath, controlling my racing pulse. My mind raced, considering options. I could take the photo album with me. If I had access to the girls' families, I might be able to help them. But that would put me directl

GUTEMBERGI feel KJ's hands squeezing mine, pulling them away from his neck as he coughs up blood, the hoarse noise cutting through the air. It's not the first time I've seen a man in despair, but that doesn't stop me from feeling a sadistic satisfaction at seeing him there, choking on his own rot. But KJ's security guards are already pulling me, trying to get me away from him, and confusion takes over the scene. They don't know whether to hit me or just keep quiet. Their fear is evident on their faces. Our gazes meet, and the tension is palpable. I feel my body heat up with rage as I stare at the bastard, with a fury that threatens to spill over, but I need to keep control. I've already made a mistake, I know that. I'm putting Davina at risk. I know that, but the anger still controls me, and the words come out impulsively.“Stupid kid,” KJ coughs with a dirty smile, trying to provoke me. “What the hell are you doin

DAVINAThe car drove along the road, and the heavy silence was filled only by the muffled sound of the engine and the tire tearing up the wet asphalt. The rain drummed on the roof of the vehicle, because the weather couldn't be kind and offer a quiet dawn, no, everything had to end in a suggestive and overwhelming storm, just like when you build up huge expectations about a food and when you finally taste it, it lacks salt. The sound of the raindrops hitting the car created a discordant melody as I curled up in the passenger seat, arms crossed and gaze fixed on the window. Not that there was anything interesting to see. Droplets ran down the glass, distorting the world outside, but at least they gave me an excuse not to look at it.Gutemberg was muttering something under his breath, probably to himself, but I knew it was about me. It was nothing new. Everything about him, from the way he gripped the steering wheel too tightly to his frowning eyebrows, screamed irritation."Have you alw

DAVINAI swallowed, my discomfort growing. Being alone with him in the car was complicated enough. Going to his house? Something told me that things were about to get even more confusing.Gutemberg parked in front of a building with a discreet façade, its lights flashing softly as if reflecting my internal state. Before I could think about opening the door and running out, he had already gone around the car and opened my door, his hand holding my arm firmly, but without hurting. The rain continued to patter softly on the roof of the car, like a dramatic soundtrack to whatever this was between us. He looked me up and down, an appraisal that made the blood rush to my face.“Come on, Davina. I haven't got all day.” His voice was impatient, but there was something else there, something that made me uneasy.“I didn't ask you to come here.” I tugged on his arm, but he didn't budge.“You didn't ask, but you came anyway.” He arched an eyebrow, that annoyingly confident smile appearing. ”Come

DAVINABeing in Gutemberg's house was strange enough, but the weight of Aaron's arms around me made everything even more out of place, especially the way Gutemberg was watching us. He was leaning against the door, arms crossed, staring at me with an indecipherable expression.I swallowed, feeling my face heat up, and tried to break away from Aaron. What the hell do these guys want from me? And what kind of person is attracted to their sister's ex? Especially a toxic ex.“What are you doing here?” I asked Aaron, trying to ignore the fact that he still hadn't let go of me. He finally let go of me and plopped down on the small sofa next to me, a carefree smile dancing on his lips.“I followed the Phantom,” he replied, pointing with his chin in Gutemberg's direction. “I don't trust him.”Gutemberg snorted, and the sound reverberated around the room, laden with contempt. But I felt relieved, almost grateful that Aaron was here. A familiar face was exactly what I needed in order not to get l

DAVINAThe silence inside the car was deafening. The only soundtrack was the low rumble of the engine and the nervous drumming of my fingers against my leg. Gutemberg looked as uncomfortable as I did, one hand on the steering wheel and the other resting on the gearshift, his eyes fixed on the road ahead. Finally, I plucked up the courage to break the silence."Thank you." My voice sounded weaker than I wanted it to. "For freeing my father from KJ's hands."Gutemberg didn't take his eyes off the road, but his fingers on the steering wheel were tense."I'll pay the money back. I don't know how, but I'll manage."He let out a short, harsh laugh that sounded more like a reflex than a genuine reaction."You don't have to worry about that now."The way he said it, as if the matter was insignificant, irritated me."Not worry? My father was kidnapped for borrowing money from a criminal, and now I'm in debt to another criminal. Of course, I'm going to worry!"I snorted, crossing my arms, while

GUTEMBERGI sat on the edge of the mattress as the weight of last night hung like a suffocating fog. The nightclub, KJ, the chaos... All a mess that I knew would end in an inevitable confrontation with my father. It had been a long night, and the clock was almost eight in the morning. I hadn't slept a minute. How could I?But that was the least of it. What was really burning in me was something else. Pryia.KJ had trafficked my ex, and what was worse, there was a real chance that my father was involved. I couldn't mention her name, or even think about him knowing about our connection. I needed to find out if it was a conscious hit or just a coincidence.I leaned against the kitchen worktop, on one of the few pieces of furniture I had chosen myself. The hiding place was functional, discreet, but nothing here felt like mine. I made a coffee and drank it, then took a shower and changed my clothes, choosing something that wouldn't attract attention. I took a quick look in the cracked bath

GUTEMBERGAs soon as I opened the door to the apartment, the scene that awaited me hit me like a punch in the stomach. Davina was there, in the middle of the living room, but she wasn't alone.Timmy and Aaron flanked her sides like protective angels. Or perhaps like demons ready to destroy the world for her. They stared at me with hard eyes, as if any false move would be enough for them to go after me.But it wasn't them who held my attention. It was Davina. Her eyes were puffy and red, as if she'd been crying all night. Her disheveled hair fell in unruly strands over her shoulders, and the clothes she wore, a baggy sweatshirt and a loose blouse, made her look smaller than she really was.She looked... broken. Broken in a way I'd never seen before. And so sad. A sadness that seemed to devour every part of her, leaving only the pieces. For a moment, I found myself speechless. It was hard to associate this figure with the Davi

DAVINAThe black dress felt strange on my body. It was simple, with no details, just a straight piece that I would never have chosen to wear of my own free will. But it wasn't about me. None of it was.The hem of the dress brushed against the skin of my knees as I turned to the mirror. My eyes were swollen, red, as if I had cried more than my body could bear. But the truth was that the crying had stopped hours ago, replaced by an emptiness that throbbed in my head and squeezed my chest. My hair was tied up anyway, I didn't have the energy to care. I ran my finger over my cracked lips, feeling the rough texture, as if it were a physical reminder of everything I was trying to erase. The surrounding room seemed smaller than ever. The walls that used to welcome me now seemed suffocating. The scent of the new lemon air freshener I'd bought mixed with the floral perfume my mother had sprayed in the hallway, trying to mask the smell of death that seemed to have invaded the house.I pulled th

GUTEMBERGGUTEMBERGThe motorcycle is lying in the middle of the street, engine still hot, smoke rising. The streetlights flicker, casting restless shadows across the asphalt. My chest rises and falls, blood rushing hot through my veins, but none of that compares to the rage pulsing inside me. My eyes lock onto Timmy’s figure, fists clenched, standing just a few feet away.I throw my helmet to the ground hard, the sound echoing through the empty street, and I charge like a starving animal finding a scrap of meat."What the hell is wrong with you!?" I yell, shoving him with all my strength. "You rammed your car into my bike? Were you trying to kill me?"He doesn’t move an inch. That mocking smirk on his face only fuels the fire in my chest."And you’re trying to ruin Davina, aren’t you, Ghost?" The nickname rolls off his tongue like a slap. "Did you tell her about Pryia? Dropped that bomb on her lap? Who the hell do you think you are?""She deserved to know!" I snap, my voice ripping t

DAVINAI narrowed my eyes.“So? What are you hiding?”“Nothing,” Timmy replied too quickly, looking away.Hmm.Liar.“Don’t lie.” My voice was heavy with hurt, but also with determination. “I can feel it. You’re hiding something.”Gutemberg sighed, rubbing the back of his neck, while Timmy looked like he was about to explode.“We’re not hiding anything,” Gutemberg said, but his tone wasn’t convincing.“You’re a terrible liar,” I shot back, staring at them both. “Just say it. What else do you know?”Timmy huffed, kicking the floor hard before turning to face me.“You’re not going to like it, Davina.”“I already don’t!” I yelled, throwing my arms in the air. “Now talk.”He clenched his fists like he was fighting with himself, then muttered a curse under his breath.“It’s KJ,” he finally said, spitting out the name like poison.I blinked, confused.“KJ?”“Yes, KJ.” Timmy was furious, his eyes locked on mine like he wanted to strangle me for making him say it. “He’s behind all of this.”T

DAVINA"You've got to be kidding me!"Timmy's voice echoed through the room like thunder, making me spin on my heels. He stormed in, his hair still wet, even though he had showered before me. In the blink of an eye, he grabbed Gutemberg by the collar."What do you think you're doing?" he snarled, his eyes blazing with anger.Gutemberg stared at him in surprise, taking a second to understand where Timmy had come from."How the hell did you get in here?" Gutemberg asked, incredulous.Timmy let out a dry laugh, full of irony."I should ask you the same question. But that doesn't matter now. What matters is that you broke our agreement.""Agreement?" I repeated, confused, looking from one to the other.Timmy ignored my question and tightened his grip on Gutemberg's collar, who maintained his posture, although his eyes gave away a slight discomfort."We agreed not to talk about this shit with Davina!" Timmy roared, bringing his face closer to his.My stomach knotted up."What are you talki

DAVINAI left the bathroom with my towel slung over my shoulder, drying my wet hair. I was still processing Timmy's words when I suddenly stopped in the hallway. I squeezed my eyes shut, trying to figure out if I was imagining things. Maybe it was my mother, or my grandmother. But it wasn't.I stopped at the living room door, and there he was. Gutemberg. He was sitting comfortably on the sofa, as if he owned the house. One leg crossed casually over his knee, his hands resting on the arms of the furniture. He wore a black shirt that highlighted his broad shoulders, dark jeans and boots. There was something new on him, a thin gold chain with a crystal pendant hanging from it. It looked old, but intriguing. His fingers, covered in rings, tapped gently on the sofa as if he were waiting for something or someone. He looked up and smiled slightly when he saw me standing there, completely frozen, with a probably ridiculous expression."Are you going to stare at me like a little fan? It's a bi

DAVINAThe sound of the cutlery clinking against the expensive plates made me want to scream. My parents' mansion had never been a home; it had always been a museum, a stage where happiness was just a cheap act. And today was no different. My mother, sitting at the head of the table with a forced smile, was talking about a charity dinner that Jimmy, my father, was planning to hold soon."They'll love the idea, dear. Who wouldn't want to help children in need?" Her voice was sweet, but soulless. Just an echo of who she used to be.I pretended to be interested, cutting the piece of meat on my plate without really thinking about eating it. I knew she didn't believe a word she said. The donations, the parties, everything was to feed Jimmy's ego and keep up appearances.I looked at her and felt that familiar tightness in my chest. Her platinum blonde hair was perfectly groomed, cut elegantly just above her shoulders. She looked like a princess from a fairytale, but the sparkle in her eyes

DAVINAI was trying to keep my composure, but the way Gutemberg was looking at me was getting on my nerves. It was that look that said he knew something I didn’t. Something he was keeping from me, and that irritated me even more. So when he finally opened his mouth, I already knew something bad was coming.“What?” he asked, with that mocking tone that made my patience evaporate. “Do you think Midnight is going to invite you for afternoon tea if you keep bringing him cake?”My eyebrows shot up, and I stared at him like he had lost his mind.“What are you talking about?” I spat, crossing my arms.He shrugged, that crooked smile playing on his lips, but his eyes seemed… upset? No. That was impossible. Gutemberg didn’t get u

DAVINAThe clock seemed to mock my lack of patience. The last lesson of the day always dragged on, but today, every second seemed like an eternity. It wasn't the teacher's fault, he did his best to keep us interested, but the persistent feeling of being watched took my focus away.Especially as I knew where the stares were coming from.Tom.I pretended not to notice, but his stares were obvious, even if he tried to be discreet. Every time he thought I wasn't looking, there he was, staring. Before, it would have made me blush. Today, it just made the blood boil in my veins. He had the audacity to stare at me like that while still reposting happy photos with his pregnant fiancée on social media. “Our family is growing,” read the caption on her latest post.I breathed a sigh of relief when the bell rang, ending the lesson. Finally. I gathered my things in a hurry, sensing that he would try to talk to me again. He's been trying all week. Two weeks ago, when he came with his mask of sympat

DAVINA"You shouldn't be here!" Gutemberg spoke, his jaw locked and his voice deadly, the kind of tone that makes the back of your neck shiver.I blinked, completely bewildered. I hadn't seen him for a month, and now he was standing there, on Midnight's doorstep, looking more sullen and menacing than ever."I...," the words just disappeared from my mouth. "I just... brought a cake."Great, Davina. That'll definitely make things less awkward.Gutemberg arched an eyebrow, but before he could say anything, Midnight appeared behind him, as if to summon him with a thought."You brought it," he said, pushing Gutemberg aside nonchalantly. His half-lidded eyes ran over me, from the cake in my hands to my face. It was almost as if he was too lazy to deal with me but still curious enough not to dismiss me."Is that strawberry in there?" Midnight asked, pointing with his chin at the cake.I shook my head quickly, holding the cake tighter."No. It's chocolate with nuts."But I should have added s

DAVINAThe smell of forgotten clothes and a light, aged floral perfume hung in the air. My mother was in bed, motionless, as if time had stopped for her. Her eyes were open but empty, fixed on the ceiling. The room was plunged into darkness. The thick curtains blocked out the sunlight that insistently tried to come through the windows."Mom..." My voice sounded softer than I had intended, almost like a plea. I entered the room carefully, like someone invading a broken shrine. It's been a month. Thirty long, suffocating days since we lost Dad.She didn't answer. She didn't even blink.I approached the bed, leaning over to meet her gaze."I know it hurts, but... I'm here too, Mom. I need you." My eyes began to sting, but I held back the tears. Someone had to be strong.Again, silence.I sighed, running my hand over my face. Every day, the hope of bringing her back seemed to diminish. It was as if Dad's death had taken her soul with it, leaving only her body behind. I turned to the small
