Raven
The thought of lusting after a vampire made me sick to my stomach. This was trouble in every sense of the word.
I made my way back to the secretary's office to sort out my schedule, but on my way, I felt a presence walking behind me.
Turning around slowly, my breath stilled at the sight of the beautiful vampire boy.
He looked well-groomed from head to toe. Judging from his well-ironed black pants, platinum white shirt, polished leather shoes, and the silver Rolex wristwatch resting on his left hand, his parents were wealthy.
No surprise there, considering the huge chunks of money we paid for tuition.
My breathing became erratic and I quickly looked away, trying to increase my pace, knowing that this encounter was bound to bring trouble.
He chuckled behind me, wanting to close the space between us.
"You know, for someone with short legs, you sure have a fast pace."
I ignored his comment, quickening my steps even more, wondering why this hallway seemed never-ending.
He caught up with me and stood right in front of me. Gazing stupidly at him, I froze on the spot.
"Come on, you shouldn't have to run away from me," he placed a hand on my shoulder, turning me around. "I was expecting a thank you for saving you from that idiot back there."
"Take your hands off me," I snapped out of my trance with widened eyes as a jolt of electricity ran through my body."I didn't ask for your help."
His brows furrowed but it didn't take long for his smile to return.
Gosh, he was so handsome.
Aside from being a vampire, he simply had an air of elegance about him. The way the light contrasted across his pale skin made him stand out even more, and his hair had to be the most beautiful I'd ever seen.
But I didn't want anything from him. He was a vampire. He stood so close, his scent intoxicating me.
His gaze burned into mine, and it felt like I was being hypnotized by his gorgeous eyes.
My body became paralyzed, unable to move, incapable of thinking. For a fleeting second, I imagined his lips pressed against mine... it made my knees buckle.
His voice rumbled deep within his chest. "Easy there, Tiger. If you had responded to Troy in that manner and stood up for yourself, I wouldn't have intervened. But you just stood there, letting him insult you."
He was right. I had been overreacting and, dare I admit, somewhat infatuated with him. He was only trying to help.
"In that case, thank you for what you did," I said reluctantly, trying to end the conversation. "Now, may I please go?"
"No, you may not," he chuckled, blocking my way. "Judging from what happened with Troy, it's clear that you're not just a new student. So, what's your story? And what's your name?"
"That's a lot of questions," I replied, pretending to be annoyed. "Unfortunately, I'm too busy to answer them right now. So, please excuse me."
I tried to move past him, but there was something dangerously intoxicating about him that drew me in and made me powerless.
I turned away quickly, trying to stay away from him. Blood surged from my fingertips to my toes and a hot ache grew in my throat. The coolness from his hand on my arm seared into my skin, paralyzing me.
With all the force I could gather, I wrenched my hand away, stepping back and curling my lips with disgust.
"Run!" My brain yelled at me but my legs refused to cooperate. This beautiful boy standing right in front of me was unclean and my dad would kill me if he saw me alone with a vampire.
"You shouldn't be talking to me. You're a bloodsucker," I managed to say, frowning as his eyes raked boldly over me.
"Bloodsucker…" His lips quirked slightly upwards. "That's an insulting term for us. We prefer the more refined term "Vampires."
I took another step backward until I stood next to the wall looking down at the ground so I wouldn't have to look directly into those devilishly gorgeous eyes.
As much as I would've liked nothing more than to run a finger along his sensuous lips, I didn't dare touch him.
I'd rather die.
"Why don't you give yourself a little shake and introduce yourself to me," he asked smoothly and winked with sparkling eyes as though he caught me staring at his mouth moments earlier.
"I'd rather not say," I snapped, attempting to move but he blocked me swiftly.
Last year, I'd probably have fallen for him, but I knew better now.
This one right here was a classic playboy who probably wants to use me as an experiment or suck my blood. Thankfully, Lycan blood was poisonous to vampires.
He closed the distance between us and my heart thumped like rumba drums, disturbed that he was so close and didn't bother moving an inch, I tried to move but couldn't. Something intense flashed in his eyes, and it stirred a gently growing fire in me.
His gaze led down to the creamy area of my neck, and I had an overwhelming urge to run away.
"Come on, I'm just trying to be friendly."
"Read my lips," I mustered enough courage to meet his gaze. "I don't need your 'friendly' advances. Your presence is unsettling."
"Ah! Feisty, aren't you? We both know that's not true. You surely need company."
With the smooth confidence of a professional seducer, he put his hand on my wrist and pulled me against him.
"Take your hands off me!" I shrieked, pushing myself away from him. "I don't see the point in being friendly with someone who is supposed to be my enemy.
"You're cute. It's like I'm watching you eat an entire ice cream cone with your cheeks puffed up and your tongue sticking out."
Oh God, he was so aggravating.
"My offer stands. Let me be your friend. I don't bite… well I do, but not Lycans. "
"Thanks for the offer but I'll pass. Remind me to carry around some garlic and a wooden stake."
He laughed, towering over me. I felt like a tiny ant in comparison. His pure sex appeal and manliness wafted through my nose and I looked away, trying not to drool.
"What do you want?" I snapped, trying to hide my frustration.
"Your name, for a start," he moistened his lips and a slow smile spread across his face as if he could tell the effect he had on me.
"Vlad! Why the hell aren't you in class?" Principal John's loud voice boomed across the hallway and I fled.
Vlad...
That name was familiar. My stomach knotted in recognition. He was Vladislav, the vampire king's son and my dad's greatest threat.
Damn it!
I rushed out and leaned against the wall, closing my eyes. Vlad was trouble and I had to avoid him like the plague.
Without realizing that I'd arrived at the matron's office for my dorm clearance. I took a deep breath and pushed open the heavy wooden doors to check in.
The matron, a heavyset woman who loved smoking or taking snuff, looked up and her thick eyebrow arched up.
"Look who flew in here," she mocked with a thick accent, her voice dripping with disgust. "Our dear little birdie."
She snorted contemptuously and laughed, the sound echoing through the room. No wonder the students nicknamed her an ogre. It suited her ugly look and matching personality.
"Remember the girl I told you about? The one who gave dear Mr. Aiden a blowjob and…"
My teeth clamped my lower lip, biting hard so that I tasted blood. The younger woman rolled her eyes, listening to the matron's acidic comments about me.
"Open your luggage for clearance," the matron snapped with annoyance and took a drag of her cheap cigarette. Trying to stay as calm as possible, I obeyed her as she searched through my belongings for any contraband.
She found nothing, but her sour expression kept me on edge. Her sausage fingers punched the dial pad of her flip phone as she called the guidance counselor and told her she was sending a "problematic student" to her office.
Glad to be leaving the Spawn of Satan's presence, I headed to the G and C unit where I met a woman in her late twenties with a sleek haircut of contrasting colors of bottled grey in front and her natural butterscotch behind.
She seemed like a new teacher and looked so cool. She probably styled her hair that way to make students feel at ease.
When she smiled at me, I looked away at her name tag which read "Alicia Hutchins"
Her smile didn't fool me. After all, the sweetest ones were often the sneaky devils in disguise.
"Have a seat," she said, studying me with a look of pity in her kind eyes.
Ms. Alicia struggled to find the right words as she looked over my transcript. She tapped her pen against the table, asking how I aced my math.
"It's my favorite subject," I said in a monotone, the thickness of my throat making it difficult to speak.
She let out a wide grin and a throaty laugh."I like you already. I teach math and AP calculus. We also have a math club and are preparing for an inter-school competition. Join us."
For the first time in days, I felt a smile spread across my face.
When I finally returned to my former dorm, Luna's Den, my roommates curled their lips and wrinkled their noses in disgust.
"All the beds are occupied. You should check the moonstone hall," Ivy, Nova's maternal cousin said, and from my side vision, Nova scurried away to the bathroom.
Not surprised by their reaction, especially my sister's, I dragged my box to the noisier and less attractive dorm occupied mostly by sophomores, and juniors, found an empty bunk at the end of the hall, near the bathroom, and sighed as I sat on the bed, resolving to spend the rest of the year in isolation and most especially to stay away from Vlad.
Vlad Wincing at the loud volume of the blasting stereo, I covered my ears and watched as some of my dorm mates danced to the music blasting off a speaker. We were having a mini party at the common room in our dormitory and although it was a school week, my friends and I were so spoiled that we often bribed the dorm janitors to let us have a little 'fun,' which included our girls. Limbs flailed wildly as vampires jumped around dancing to upbeat music, toasting, and chugging with cheers. Zarek, my best friend, thin as death's head upon a mopstick who despite the unhealthy calories he consumed never gained weight, threw a pillow at me. I dodged and relaxed on a red velvet sofa, surrounded by boys playing chess. "Hey sourpuss, get your lazy ass out here on the dance floor!" "I'm having fun. I don't have to be as loud as…" My eyes widened in shock when he slapped one girl's butt and placed a dog collar on another. Zarek was a man whore and loved his bed full of women. He had dan
Raven My feet bounced past the grassy lawn crisscrossed by sidewalks and I raced back to my dorm. Sweat dripped down my body, seeping into my AirPods. I loved the morning run because it refreshed my beast and energized me for the day. I stopped to wipe some sweat off with a towel when I noticed Vlad watching me. Standing beside him were three boys, the same ones who defended me from that bumhole, Troy. Vlad's gaze searched my face and darted lustfully, giving me a wink while his friends expressed knowing looks with sly grins. Vlad wasn't laughing but he had a genuine smile on his face that made my breathing race. Gosh, Why did he have to be so good-looking? Tugging the fabric of my hoodie and hating the pleasurable tingly noise I felt in my skin, I turned away and began running into the dormitory. Vlad had a strange type of animal magnetism that drew me to him and it disturbed me. I had to find a way to become immune to the raw power of his attraction. I couldn't wait to turn
Raven I dumped down on a chair at the back, grinding my teeth together in annoyance. What was Vlad up to? His aggravating smile could explode my brain at this point. It was no coincidence that he joined the math club after I did. My stupid brain couldn't stop thinking about him all through last night and this morning when he looked at me, the pit of my stomach heated. It would be utterly ridiculous for me to have issues because I knew all eyes were on me. Everyone expected me to slip or get into another scandal to ruin my already damaged reputation. I wasn't going to give them the satisfaction and if Vlad would be the target, I'd avoid him like the plague. Restless, I tapped my foot like a caged animal trying to escape. I just needed to keep my head low, finish senior year and escape this place. Vlad kept looking back and giving me a wink, licking his ruby lips like a cat lapping up cream. It almost looked like he was wearing lipstick. My brain conjured images, wondering how
Vlad's POV Sitting in World Government class, I watched the enthusiastic newbie teacher, a twenty-something-year-old inexperienced Lycan eager to teach us. He used a butt load of words that annoyed my classmates. No one took him seriously, especially the vampires because all he did was ramble about some of the world's Lycan leaders. "Go ahead with the teaching already," I groaned, tired and struggled to stay engaged in class. I tapped my pencil on my desk and didn't bother taking any notes. "This dude is going to cause trouble," I took a sip of water and whispered to Thorne who was playing games on his phone. "Whatever. it's not like I like school anyway. Any plans for the weekend? We're hosting another party tomorrow night at the valley. " I slouched in the chair and was about to respond when a huge argument ensued. "Vampires shouldn't be allowed in StoneCrest. Their king is an anarchist. He wants to overthrow King Jalen but that's never going to happen." Everyone turned
Raven The week dragged on and I tried as much as possible to avoid Vlad despite the countless times he tried to talk to me. My crush on him grew like a weed, taking over every rational thought in my brain. Guilt gnawed away at my heart and mind. A small, selfish part of myself wanted to play my fantasies out but I knew better. We were from two different worlds and my feelings for him were forbidden. Ms. Alicia was my saving grace because she always kept a tight leash on him. "Hey Romeo, I see you've been working hard on calculating your chances with Raven," Ms. Alicia whispered to him when he bullied my seatmate and sent him to the back. But let me tell you, calculus is the only equation you need to focus on right now before trying to solve the equation of love." Vlad laughed and winked at me. His laugh was the most beautiful sound I ever heard. It was light and musical and made all other sounds seem bland by comparison. "What can I say? She's cute." My cheeks flushed and I l
Vlad I stopped walking when I saw Raven sprint out of the matron's house with her hoodie pulled low over her face. She was running so fast that she stumbled and fell to her knees, scrabbling at the stones and whimpering in frustration. "Raven, what's wrong?" I asked, taking her hand. She yanked her hand away, pulling her hoodie lower, almost as though trying to disappear beneath it. "Mind your business," she snapped, wiping away her tears with a sleeve of her hoodie. "Whoa! Easy tiger. I'm just worried about you. Tell me what's going on." I held on to her hand gently, but she pulled away abruptly, her whole body stiffening. Her eyes were red and puffy from crying. "I don't need your help, Dr. Phil," Raven retorted, her voice growing snarky. "I can handle my problems, thank you very much." A gust of wind blew, causing her to shiver and wrap her arms tightly around her body. I reached out again to touch her shoulder, but she stepped back out of my reach. "You can't go in look
Raven's POV The cozy common room buzzed with activity. It was Friday evening and we were happy that another school week had passed. William and I sat on the well-worn leather couch, playing chess. Some boys and girls had their arms draped around their shoulders, talking and stealing kisses. Leaning forward, I studied the chessboard intently. William adjusted his glasses and took a sip of water before making a move with a sly grin. I nibbled on a corner of my bottom lip, deep in concentration. He countered a move while I scrutinized my options, weighing each decision with care. "Checkmate!" I clapped after making my last move. William's sour face made me double over in laughter. "You're something, aren't you?" He said softly, his eyes fixed upon mine, his gaze almost reverent as he watched me. His light brown fringe was against his forehead, partially obscuring his deep blue eyes that were wide with wonder. An inner voice whispered in my head, hoping that he didn't like m
Raven The sight of my aunt's white BMW made my heart skip with excitement. My legs sprinted into a run as I dodged a delivery truck driving in with the school's stationery. Aunt Jaela, my dad's twin, rushed out of the driver's seat skipping towards me with her arms open wide and I flew into her embrace. She showered my face with kisses and the slightly sharp metallic scent of petroleum hit my nose. No matter how many times my aunt cleaned up, the scent stuck with her even when she was wearing clean clothes. "My favorite girl," she cooed. "I missed you so much." "I'm sure you did. I'm kind of a big deal around here you know." She laughed, her hearty, wholesome laughter, and my eyes caught sight of my little cousin Tommy, sitting in the back seat and bouncing up and down in excitement. "Where's Nova?" Aunt J asked, searching around and squinting to catch her from a distance. "She couldn't join us. She's preparing the yearbook. You know she's the head of the editorial team."
JalenThe overpowering smell of old, musty leather filled my dad's beat-up sedan, and the sound of his angry voice rose above the roar of the engine as he scolded me for shifting into my beast form. Tension filled the car, and my anger radiated off me in waves."Is it such a difficult task to control yourself in public? Have you never seen a girl before that you had to shift into your beast form? Now everyone in the pack will yap about how my son was aroused by a stupid werewolf.""I wasn't aroused by her," I lied, trying to defend myself, but he was too far gone in his rage to listen."Griffin, please hear him out. There may be other reasons why he shifted, and besides, Jalen can't be attracted to that spoiled brat.""Oh, shut up," my dad barked at my mom, who had stepped in to try and calm the situation. "That's all you do, make fat and silly excuses for him. He never does anything right. I'll be retiring in a year, and I don't even know the future of our pack."She sat in silence,
Clarissa I fell to the stage, surrounded by flashing cameras and concerned faces, I couldn't believe what had just happened. My heart was racing and I was hyperventilating, trying to process the fact that a Lycan was my mate. All around me, my family rushed to my side, trying to help me up and calm me down. My mother's caked-on makeup was smudged with sweat, a proof to her concern and worry. And all around, people were talking and trying to make sense of what was happening. 'Breathe, Rissa,' I encouraged myself, breathing out of my nostrils. Why was the moon goddess doing this to me? My brain couldn't process this at all. I'd been mateless for twenty-three years only to become a forbidden Lycan's mate?Fucking great! My mum squeezed my hand to comfort me. She was going to keep blaming me for months for disgracing her. "Here, sip some water," she said. My brother, Bryon, held my head while my dad checked my temperature. I felt lightheaded and was breathing quickly, inhaling and exh

EpilogueSix years later "Raven, my love, ever since I met you, I've fantasized about this moment," Vlad's voice trembled with emotion. "I can't imagine a world without you. We have everything we need – money, a loving family, and a future ahead. Please, baby, will you marry me?"Caught off guard by Vlad's proposal, I burst into tears, turning to mush and ruining my perfectly done makeup."You naughty boy! Why didn't you tell me about this," I blubbered, hitting his shoulder? His perfect dentition broke into a killer smile, as my head bobbed in a yes. "Of course, I'll marry you," my heart sang with delight. "you own me after all.""I owe you my life," he said and I threw myself at his arms. He wrapped them tight around me, the smell of his cologne and our mating bond engulfing me and sending shivers down my spine. Gently, he slipped a Tiffany style round cut engagement ring onto my third finger, and the diamondsglinted brightly against my skin. "So this is why that silly girl, Ta
Raven The Doctor and King Vladislav walked in slowly, with the king standing beside me.I sobbed uncontrollably to the point that I began seeing spots and my vision became blurred, and I could hardly see the people in front of me anymore. The king's eyes were clouded with sadness and regret. I could feel the pressure building in my throat, making my breathing feel constricted. "Raven, please don't cry. You have done enough. Let's just say goodbye to Vlad.""Goodbye?" I spat, and he took a step back. "How will I do that? How do you expect me to say goodbye to my mate? My partner for life!""Raven, Vlad is my son," King Vladislav said with a resigned tone. "I feel so hopeless right now. But we have to face reality. Hybrids are different from humans and werewolves. The earlier we accept the reality that Vlad can never regain consciousness, the better for everyone. False hopes and delusions will get us nowhere."The king's voice cracked. "Please understand, Raven." I stumbled forward,
Raven On the night of day six, I couldn't sleep. My mind was restless like a rolling stone and I kneeled by Vlad's bedside, begging him with everything in me.King Vladislav had begun preparing for Vlad's funeral. According to him, Vlad deserved a befitting burial. How could anyone be comfortable burying their child? My tongue felt swollen. I was helpless and needed a miracle for Vlad. He was the only thing that brought joy and light to my life. The king was broken. All he did was mope and answer questions with monosyllables. Reality had begun to hit him but matter how much I begged him to extend the date, he didn't budge."Raven, there's nothing we can do. This is pure torture," his voice choked. "Let him rest.""Vlad, my love," I gripped his hand. "Did you hear your father? Is this what you want, to be buried? Talk to me. Wake up before they turn off the life support. Come back to me. Don't leave me, please. Just come back!"The answer I got was the beep of the machine and Vlad's s
RavenI couldn't sleep all night, and all I kept thinking about was Vlad. It was so bad that when I finally managed to drift off to sleep, it was filled with nightmares of them burying Vlad and all our classmates placing flowers at his gravesite. I felt even worse when I woke up, rolling over to face the wall and pulling my knees tight against my chest. The darkness of the night wasn’t comforting enough for the pain in my heart. The silence didn’t help either. What if Vlad never makes it? What if he doesn't come back to life? And then the memories from my dreams replayed over and over again in vivid detail. Taylor never left my side and even shared my bed with me. She sat up, staring at me with sympathy in her green eyesMy head rested on her shoulder as she whispered soothing things into my ear while rubbing my arms and whispering ‘It's okay’ every few minutes. At one point, she had to go out and make me some hot chocolate because I had started shivering so badly. Early the nex
Raven On day three of my stay in the specialist hospital, I had to return to school to write an important test that couldn't be written online. It was the last screening part to get admitted to college."You need to go," King Vladislav pleaded with me. "You're young and have a full life ahead of you. Vlad wouldn't want you to waste your time here and spend a year doing nothing just because you missed your college entrance exam." He paused to let his words sink and sadly, he was right. It was a good thing that I had been accepted into the best college program on campus on a full scholarship. My dad was wealthy enough to train me but that didn't mean I should waste his money on tuition. I sighed and the King begged me to stop making excuses. "you've got to graduate, Raven. I'm here with Vlad and you can always come back whenever you wish.""I don't trust you enough," I muttered. I don't know what you'll end up doing the second I step my foot out the door. You have been looking for h
LucianI'd seen too much, witnessed too many painful scenes. I returned home, terrible regrets and guilt assailing me. Vlad's condition was my fault. I let out a choked, desperate laugh. The king was so mad at me that he couldn't stand my presence. He hated me so much. Blood pounded in my temples as I felt humiliated and deflated remembering the disgraceful way he sent me away from the hospital. Not that I blamed him anyway. I deserved to be ridiculed. Everything was all my fault. If I hadn't fallen for Dimitri's stupid antics, I would have exposed him instead and saved my brother. Now Vlad's blood was forever spilled on my hands. It made me want to cry like a baby. How could I have been so stupid? How was I so careless as not to recognize how evil Dimitri really was? When I returned home, that wicked bitch, Elvira, was nowhere to be found. She could run, but she was definitely not going to hide forever. She was the mastermind of all this calamity and the reason why my mother d
