Chapter Sixty-Four: The Strange Fire

Lila's POV

When Morinda mentioned that she would be using my blood, everyone went stiff.

We all thought she meant something bigger than life itself.

Eventually, she explained that a small cut would be made on my palm, so the blood could fizzy out, and then the spell would be recited by me.

Everyone eventually calmed their mind and started heading out of the room one after the other.

First, it was Brian—I bet he was the most affected by the meeting we held and he couldn’t wait to leave.

Probably to go and think or even subject himself to something worse. I wanted to follow him, but the look in his eyes only showed that he wanted to be alone.

He was followed by Judith, who somehow avoided making eye contact with me.

By that time, I already understood how her duty as Genna had mattered to her more than anything. I figured that out during the time we spent reading books together.

To her, I was still a potential threat to everyone, and the powers within should be neutralized.

Lila's POV Dominic walked up to me, took my hand in his, and eyed me from head to toe.”Are you hurt?” He asked, his eyes beamed with worry, and for a moment I mistook it for fear—or maybe it was fear. “Lila, are you fine?” He asked again, bringing me out of my train of assumptions. I nodded my head at him as I looked at the hand he was holding that was dripping with blood. I almost forgot that I cut myself.I tried to remove my hand from his but he held onto it. Before I knew it, someone was running towards us with the first aid kit box. Dominic must have given out the command through mindlinking. He let go of my hand to accept the box, then he proceeded to place it on the ground. I looked around to see what people were saying while Dominic’s attention was on the box. As I expected their gazes were fixed on me—demanding an explanation. I owed them one.“It’s going to sting a bit,” Dominic said before grabbing my hand to apply the disinfectant. I winced a bit, making Dominic smi

Victor’s POV The candlelight in my room flickered weakly against the dark stone walls, casting a weird shadow that seemed to be struggling to breathe, twisting and writhing like silent specters in the corner of the room. The air was thick with the smell of herbs, and the faint coppery smell of blood. A sign that a dark ritual had just taken place there. I sat on the office chair in my room with my hand under my chin, and my fingers tapping impatiently on my left cheek. I locked my gaze on Morgana, who was standing before me at that moment. She paced the room in elegant steps that felt captivating and also unnerving at the same time. She moved in a smooth and calculative way like she was deciding on how to feast on her next prey. Her silver hair, which I always mistook to be a wig, spilled over her shoulders, almost reaching her waist. She glanced towards me and a sly smile curved on her bright red lips, her blue eyes glowing with mischief. In her hand remained the bottle of el

Lila's POV Everyone was now gathered in Dominic’s office after hearing the news about Sophia’s death. Morinda was quite shocked; she said she never wished her dead, even if all Sophia ever wanted was her property. But the fact that she died suddenly could only mean one thing.“Was an autopsy conducted?” Brian asked, facing Jonathan. “Even if an autopsy was conducted it wouldn’t reveal anything as long as witchcraft was involved in her death,” Morinda said, hitting us with reality. “But one thing is certain—-she must have been in a cohort with the witch you are looking for.” She said what I was sure everyone was now aware of. “You mentioned that only the royals could erase other’s memories, right?” Dominic asked in a stoic tone. His expression had turned cold ever since heard the news. The look he had at that moment was a look that said he would murder anyone. He must have been really pissed at the whole situation. Morinda adjusted in her seat so she could face Dominic before sp

Lila's POV Brian explained what the meeting would be like on our way to the pack house. He told me to be mentally prepared that they are meant to say all kinds of words to me. Honestly, I was a bit scared since I’d have to face a large crowd while they judged me endlessly. “Do you plan to deny it?” Brian asked, jolting me out of my thoughts. I took a deep breath as he kept staring at me to hear my answer.“I don’t know, Brian,” I said tears welled up in my eyes again.” After hearing what actually happened to my mother, I couldn’t help but think that she was judged wrongly.” I continued,” “Yes, she had her fault. Revenge doesn’t end a problem but it rather adds to the existing problem. But on the other hand, I doubt I would have handled the situation any better if I were in her shoes.”I said truthfully. I felt bad for my mother, and denying her further would only make me feel more sorry for her. I was honestly torn between them since I knew accepting her would only make me face

Lila's POV He took steady and calculative strides towards the podium while the lady joined the crowd. I knew her, she's a pack member. So I assumed she had escorted him.His eyes were hazel, but they held a stronger expression of coldness compared to Dominic's. I saw how everyone went silent the moment he started walking, even I was shaken up a bit by the way he approached us. “Regardless or whatever, you shouldn't treat your Alpha's Mate with so much disrespect. I was sure I made several lectures regarding this so that the tragic event that befell shadowfangs wouldn’t repeat itself in history ever again. Did most of you sleep during those lectures?” He asked with a voice full of authority. The room boomed with his voice as it resonated throughout the silent hall. For him to have lectured them in the past, he must have been someone of a high reputation with immense wisdom, like a lecturer. But even so, why did he have so much power over controlling the rest of the werewolves? I

Lila's POV I had to confirm my ears were working perfectly. How could he accept me as his mate when he knew it would be a sad ending for us? We’ve talked about it already and he knew it was best we stayed away from each other. I didn’t want him to die, and I certainly didn’t want to end up dead either. “So, do you all agree that she doesn’t need to leave now?” Leo asked, facing the crowd back. A guy with blond hair raised his hand. He had a worried expression, so I guessed he must have had a legitimate question to ask. “Yes, Elan,” Leo said, pointing at the blonde guy whose name was supposedly Elan. It wasn’t surprising Leo knew the names of all his pack members—he used to be the alpha after all.Elan rose to his feet, “What if she goes berserk one day?” Everyone turned their head towards him. He cleared his throat before he continued speaking. “My grandmother told me about vessels with multiple powers. If they can’t manage it well, they go berserk—the outcome is disaster.” He

  • Bound by the Moon, Rejected by the Alpha    Chapter Seventy-One: Meeting His Parents

Lila's POV Dominic and I followed his father to their cabin. It was farther from the pack than I had expected. Dominic said he had a feeling his father was trying to trick him into visiting them with me by saying his mother had a fever. “I’m curious about one thing, father?” Dominic said while we were still in his father’s Lexus. His father smiled at him, but the smile carried a mischievous meaning behind it. “About how I knew about the meeting and made a grand entrance?” He asked teasingly. His hands remained firm on the steering with his eyes never leaving the road. Dominic scoffed, “Yeah, you didn’t have to add that you made a grand entrance though.” He said, shaking his head in disbelief. “But it’s the truth though,” Leo replied, shrugging with pride. I couldn’t help but smile at their little but funny interaction. Dominic grew up with the best parents, but how come he could be all cold and distant like he didn’t know how to feel? Could there be more than meets the eye?“I

Lila's POV I chuckled at the frown on Dominic's face. His mom held my hands, happily swinging them, beaming with smiles like a mother who just found her long-lost daughter.“I will stay too.” Dominic suddenly said. His mom and I stared at him, speechless.I for sure never expected him to say that.“I want to be where Lila is.” He added, making me blush in embarrassment. We had only been this close for a day, yet he's starting to get clingy.“Didn't you say you had important things to do?” His mom asked, her gaze fixed on him as if trying to figure out what was going through his head.He cleared his throat awkwardly and spoke “They can wait.”“No, you emphasized the importance; you need to go and take care of your pack.” Eve countered. Dominic was speechless for a moment. Not sure how to respond, he didn't expect his mother, who was usually soft, to suddenly become rigid.“I need to be where she is to keep her safe, she can't be safe outside the pack.” Dominic insisted. Judith's POV “Where is Lauren?” I went straight to the point, definitely not in the mood to put up with her behavior. She can wait for Lila to get better then they continue their feud.“And how am I supposed to know that?” She folded her arms over her breasts with her gaze matching mine.“Don’t mess with me, I don't have the patience for that,” I warned, my voice instantly turning cold. She scoffed, stepping closer. “I don't know where Lauren is, if I were you I'd be worried about much bigger things than trying to get an innocent lady upset.” The way the words rolled out of her mouth felt so wrong. Like she knew something we all didn't. Something is wrong. Her confidence, everything.I arched an eyebrow, “What the hell is that supposed to mean?”She shrugged nonchalantly, “I don't know, we'll see.”Her eyes sparkled with something deadly, something darker. Something beyond my understanding. I watched as she walked away, swaying her hips, my self-control slipping by the second. The s

Judith's POV I watched her struggling to hold them off, her arms vibrating as they stretched forth holding the already breached barrier in place. A stray tear rolled down the corner of my eye at the sight of her fighting to keep her eyes open.“Lila,” I called softly, a little whimper involuntarily escaping my mouth.I didn't think she could hear me, but she did; her eyes searched everywhere until they found me, her formerly lively face now paler by the second.“Lila,” I called again, feeling a little helpless at her current state. She's all alone out there, scared, drained. Fighting for the people who once treated her as an outcast because she was birthed by a witch. For the people who had wanted nothing more than to throw her out of the Packhouse.“Judith,” She whispered weakly, “You shouldn't be here.”I shook my head, tears spilling from my eyes. Tears I didn't want to shed for the fear of making her weaker. Tears I fought to hold back just so I could give her some kind of motiva

Brian's POV Saying I expected those words from Judith would be a blatant lie. I was taken aback myself. Didn't she break down a while ago when they got separated? Now she's throwing it all under the bus for some heroic move? Is this how quickly it is with women? The mood swing thing?“Excuse us,” I pulled her to the side, maybe I could talk some sense into her, just maybe. “What are you doing?” “Staying here to help. Isn't it obvious?” She asked back, feigning confidence even though I could see through her eyes that she wanted to be with him more than anything else.I sighed, shaking my head slightly.“There's nothing left for you to do here. Go to your mate.” “No.” She replied bluntly, making no attempt to comply, her eyes holding mine as if this was a staring competition. My hands moved until they settled on my waist, maintaining that posture for a while, just peering intently into her face. “You know, you and Lila, I'm starting to wonder who is more stubborn.”She shrugged casua

Judith's POV I staggered backward until I crashed to the ground, my legs suddenly finding it difficult to carry my body.Fear gripped me, my eyes taking in the gruesome scene before me.My ears suddenly became alert, realizing that the killer might still be lurking around waiting for the next victim. My heart throbbed vigorously against my rib cage, fear clouding my senses at the thought that there was a murderer in our midst and on the loose. And we had no idea who it was.I sprang up to my feet with determination, sprinting out of the room as fast as I could. I had to warn the others. Whoever it was that had managed to penetrate the Packhouse and eliminate Morinda was dangerous. They had to be alert. My legs descended the stairs rapidly, my steps were as light as a feather. It felt as if I was flying over them. “There's a killer in the building!” I announced breathlessly. My intention wasn't to scare anyone, just to keep them alert, but my approach was wrong. They stared at me wit

Judith's POV The ache in my body threatened to rip me apart. It was too much, too intense. This is probably the end of it for us. How did we not know it was the full moon tonight? Now we're all a wrecking mess, praying for some kind of miracle to happen.“Urgh!” My throat cracked along with the bones of my body. Why did this have to happen now? Has the moon goddess forsaken us? Is this how we perish?I would never have thought that the witch could harness the full moon’s energy to resurrect the dead. I've heard that it was possible. Only heard, not really believed it. And this was said to have happened over two hundred years ago. When witches were still allowed to coexist with werewolves. It all seemed like a nightmare I wanted to make up so badly from.“We have to leave now.” Jonathan’s voice interrupted my train of thought as he wrapped his arm around me, nudging me to move. His eyes burned with contained pain. He was trying his best to be strong for me. For us.Shaking my head in

  • Bound by the Moon, Rejected by the Alpha    Chapter one hundred and eight: The full moon

Lila's POV I found it difficult to sleep after my encounter with the witch in that memory lane. For some reason, it scared me; I feared that she would reappear in my dream and trap me there. I've been trapped before, it's not a funny experience. Not something I wish to experience again. Her presence felt oddly familiar and I feared what that could mean. In the library, I searched for a book on ancient spells; I was bent on finding out how she was about to touch me in a trance. Despite looking for a while, I couldn't find anything tangible, but I kept looking, keeping my mind open for possibilities. Then the lights went out and I found myself stuck at the library. It was just me there, nobody else. A feeling of fear washed over me as my heart thumped rapidly against my chest as if it could explode at any minute.Luckily I was with my phone, so I was able to keep my corner illuminated until the saved energy was restored. I was going to return to my room when I met Judith and the rest.

  • Bound by the Moon, Rejected by the Alpha    Chapter one hundred and seven: Blackout

Brian's POV “Where's your phone?” I demanded, my voice calm and measured despite the crawl I felt under my skin. I needed to find mine but I couldn't see a thing. The darkness thickened, increasing the tension in the air.“Wh– why should I give you my phone?” I could hear her shallow breathing through the silent night.“I need to find my phone!” A frustrated groan left my throat. What did she think I was going to do with her phone? Couldn't she see that I need even a flicker of light to help my vision? Moreover, I was losing patience. I needed to be with Lila. I needed to make sure she was safe. The feeling of uneasiness clung to me like a second skin, triggering my senses. Her phone's screen shone softly on her face, making her the only glowing spot in the dark. Slowly, the flashlight came on and I immediately spotted my phone. Without hesitation, I reached for it.The screen was cracked but it was manageable. At least the flashlight was working.I dashed for the staircase, determin

Juliana's POV It's been one week since I got disowned by my only surviving parent. This increased my hatred for Lila; since her arrival to the pack, things have gone the direct opposite in my favor. She has taken everything from me.This was the height of it all. I couldn't take it anymore. I could kill her if I got the chance. She's a bad omen and doesn't deserve to live among people. She carried trouble with her everywhere she went, effortlessly emitting bad luck like a transmitter, inflicting everyone within reach.‘Just wait until I'm done with you.’ I said in my mind as I glared at Lila from across my table as she ate with Brian and a little girl. Today is the night of the full moon. I can't wait to finally put her in her place. As it stands, I don't care about the details. I only cared about eliminating Lila. She's the biggest threat to the existence of wolves and the supernatural world. I sat patiently, waiting for Lauren's signal or role designation.Over the past few days, w

Juliana's POV There's something strange about the determination in Lauren's voice that piqued my interest. There was a hint of disgust in her voice if I'm not mistaken.“Are you already giving up on Dominic? Deep down you know he belongs to you. You know she hasn't done anything to deserve him.” She spoke steadily, peering intensely into my eyes. I fought the urge to scoff. “What should I do when he already chose someone else instead of me?”He made his choice. Despite the pain that comes with admitting to this fact, I've come to accept it.“Their union is a disaster, I'm sure you've heard that. Would you rather intervene now or stay apartheid and watch the worst come to Blackwood? Even if Dominic might die in the process?” Her eyes never left mine as she spoke. If she was aiming to scare me, then she was definitely doing a great job at it because a dreadful shiver overtook my body for a split second after the words left her mouth.Luther had mentioned the same, now Lauren.
